CK2: My Lombardy game. I hold all of nothern Italy except Genoa and Nice. I'm hoping my Duke, hes 77, will live long enough for me to take them, since the claim won't be passed to his successor. After I take those, it will be time to take on The Duchess.
X-Com: Continue to get my friends and family killed by cyberdics and mutons. I also want to look into how to mod some changes in. It looks like its possible to mod it right now, but its not simply a matter of changing values in the data files.
Skyrim: If I can break away from CK2 and X-Com I would like to put some time into Skyrim as well, not likely though.
Probably some xcom and Football Manager 2013.....although I am not great at it, nor completely understand the sport:(

With all the interest in the new CK2 updates, help me catch up on something about the main "Paradox" games. (I know they distribute and develop other things--including some AGEOD games, weirdly enough, which I don't understand, but whatever. Those must have been due to a temporary agreement forged back when Great Invasions was being developed...?)
The concept used to be that in theory a player could start back at the beginning of one game, and "run" a country (or faction or whatever) up through the end of WW2 and somewhat beyond. I'm unsure how far back that timeline now runs, or even whether this notion of continuity between games has been kept for modern editions of the old first versions of the games (like Darkest Hour) and current sequel/remakes (like HOI3 and its various expansions).
So my question, somewhat broadly put, is: what's the longest contiguous timeline that can be played between games, carrying over a developed position from one game to the next?
A related secondary question would be what the best "Paradox engine" games would be for as many time periods as possible: to cover such-n-such period the best choice currently would be, and then for the next period or as close as possible the best choice would be, etc. The difference being that this question ignores continuity of position being ported between games and just focuses on what's currently the best games of the Paradox engine for a time period.
(If I'm going to risk money this weekend verifying whether CK2 works on XPS2, I might as well look into how far I can play with the underlying engine. ;D )

Each game only covers a specific period of time. You can't say start a game of Crusaders Kings 2 and play to WW2 using Crusader Kings 2 alone. I thought I read somewhere that you can load a CK2 save in 1453 (when CK2 ends) into Europa Universalis III. You could then load the EU3 save into Vicky 2, etc. I've never tried it. I think EU3 is the game that covers the largest period of time. From the start of renaissance to the early 19th century.

I have EU3 with all the expansions, except Divine Wind. I've tried to get into it but haven't been able to. When I get burnt out on CK2 I want to go back and give it another shot.
The way I understand it, you can take the earliest time period Paradox game and load saved games from the previous era into the game that covers the next era, such as CKII into EUIII. I have never tried it either, but it's my understanding that it does work that way. And I'm not sure what Service Pack I use, but I run CKII on XP.

Played two games of Atari's Axis & Allies. I was Japan both times. I rolled to a victory in the first game taking out two German and one American player, including Nimitz who has the Atomic Bomb as his special weapon. Lost the second game to Great Britain after putting a German player out.

The Duchy of Lombardy in February 1090. I can raise a little over 3k troops. Don't have any retinues yet. I can raise a skirmisher retinue if I wanted but I'd rather wait until I can recruit a light or heavy retinue. My duke is 80 years old. Don't think he's going to last much longer. That is my one complaint that I have with CK2, most of my characters seem to live well into their 70's or early 80's, and I don't think lifespans during the era came anywhere near that. With your ruler living so long, you miss out on being able to choose who the guardian for your grandchildren will be.
About time to take on The Duchess. Will probably fall to my heir when he inherits. Lombardy doesn't start out with gavelkind succession. My realm should remain more or less intact through successions, unless I have to give land away because of my heir being too young.

Well, I am all over the place tonight with gaming.
Started with War in the North. Completed one level but just didn't feel compelled to continue...not grabbing me.
Moved on to Crusader Kings 2. I stuck with this for a while, but I'm not sure what happened. The succession gremlins got into my save game or something (playing as King of Scotland) but as soon as I booted up my last save all hell broke loose. First I had three provinces rebel, forming the "so-and-so for King alliance" or something of that sort. I fought a 2 year war to bring them back into the fold, depleting my treasury by hiring mercenaries to bring the war to a close. Ended up imprisoning the jerk that started the mess and considered executing him. Shortly thereafter, Norway declared war on me. I had no chance in this war, but decided to let it ride a year or so just to see what happened. Fortunately, the King of France asked to marry my 17 year old sister, which I heartily agreed to. Immediately thereafter I asked France to join the war, but he declined. What a dick. So I actually surrendered to Norway before he ravaged the whole of Scotland. Not sure what happened next; my guy who was King became a pauper I guess and my heir (his son) becomes a Duke of like 6 provinces and a vassal of Norway. I think. It's kind of confusing. But, I think that my son (me) has a claim on the kingdom once Norway dies, so this might be worth pressing with just to see what happens. Anyway, after that flurry of activity I shelved CK2 for the night.
Booted up Skyrim to play a 3rd party quest mod- "The Bigger They Fall..." Got lots of 5 stars so I figured I'd give it a try, but it was lame. I did get to use my werewolf power finally, for the first time. Still once the very short quest was over I was like, "now what?" and bagged it.
Tried to boot up King Arthur 2, but it's crashing on me so I went with KA1 and the Saxons Campaign, which I haven't played. Got in 10 turns, but, meh, not what I want to play.
Tried a little Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword. It's neat seeing all of the characters from the book in the game, but I just have a lot of trouble adjusting from Skyrim to Mount and Blade.
And that's it. Now I'm not sure what to play. Nothing seems to keep my attention. It's like I can see the game I want to play in my mind, but none of the games I'm playing are quite it.

So, I got about 10 games of MP on with this. This game is the perfect "I don't know what to play, so let me play somethign with a 4 minute attention span" game. I did a bunch of matches in MP, no teams, no BS, just shooting crap up for 5 minutes at a time. Yes, this is what I was looking for to play tonight!

I know Vicky 1 (with its expansions) carries over into HOI2 (and its expansions, which run far into the Cold War period); and it picks up from some version of EU2 (or possibly "For the Glory"?); which picks up from CK1 (including the Deus Vult supermod?). Before that there seems nothing (unless one counts the sorta-Clausewitz engine for Ageod's "Great Invasions", but those results don't carry into any Paradox game of course), back until EU:Rome which only seems to run up until 32CE.
But then there are people who prefer Darkest Hour:HOI -- but how far does that go? And to what extent can it pick up from Vicky2? (Probably not at all, since they overlap with WW1 and the interwar period.)
I will be banging my head against Xcom. The mid game is getting frustratingly difficult to beat. And I'm playing on Normal. I don't know how you guys manage to stay sane on harder levels.

Didn't feel like learning xcom but was ons sci fi mood. Sat down and finally figured out X3...playing Albiom Prelude. I chose to play the main argon plot line. Having a lot of fun, although I know in a week or so I will look around and say "what's the point?" Fun anyway. May try xcom later or might fire up scourge of war. Watching the BBC show "copper" got me fired up for the time period...go figure.

I started as a duke, so I didn't have to work my way up the chain like you have to. The real challenge will be holding it together at succession time.
Finished episode 4 of The Walking Dead today. It was entertaining with some interesting decision to make. I am curious where they will take the last episode.

I did manage to get some WaW in, but finished up doing a couple of scenario's from 'Death of 1st Panzer' rather than BnB as intended. I've stil got masses of unplayed scenarios from my hefty WaW collection - not even touched 'Compendium' yet, and still have half of 'Paris is Burning' to play.
I aint pulled the trigger on 'Into the Breach' yet though, or my backlog will be even bigger!
Played some more X-Com, completed Journey again (I just can't get enough of how much that game makes me ride the emotional rollercoaster - I've never had a game affect me so much, even the second time through!). Played some Medal of Honour, the run and gun spawn/death cycle made me hanker after better, so I then played Battlefield 3: Armoured Kill. Finally resting on some MUD action with 4Dimensions, and a tiddly bit of Sryth. A busy weekend.
Well, I eventually bought CK2 and Great Invasions (Matrix/AGEOD edition, 1.07c, through Gamersgate.)
I finally narrowed down my concerns to:
1.) Is there any way to effectively play Dark Ages and import into CK2? -- Answer, yes theoretically. GI covers a huge expanse of time, over 700 years, and ends with CK2's 1066 beginning, at which point I can use the CK2 ruler editor to import any surviving faction that I prefer to continue with.
2.) Where can I go after Vicky2? -- Answer, either HOI3 (which is arguably the better, deeper game, and which surely will have a Cold War expansion eventually anyway), or HOI2:ArmaDoom, which definitely works and into which Vicky2 was designed to continue.
So, if the contiguous imports work correctly, I should be able to recreate my faction from GI in CK2 (although not the world situation, but GI has a lot of determinism toward arriving at historical 1066 anyway), then from there through Vicky2 via EU3 (or possibly EU4 if it's released by then), and then from there either through HOI2 to the Cold War or HOI3 to 1948.
So potentially a game spanning a tad over 1600 years.

Xcom is well designed and you won't notice the learning curve until you're too far into it to turn back. Just be prepared to abandon all other aspects of your life ;)
