Saw that. I'm almost tempted to fire this up again. There's nothing like a good team taking on a zombie horde.

Yes, well you see there was this reason and I am sure it was a good one but I can't remember it now. :)
I started downloading it and its going to take forever, especially considering now is peak usage time for the internet lines around here so I'll let it run over night and hopefully get to play it tomorrow night or Sat after work.
It says"$4.99" until 10/29. Eh? Great price but even by the most twisted corporate-advert-spinning definition not exactly 'free'. Also, are enough people still playing this game to make it worth while? Any Grogs playing this MP here?
I still play it and never have an issue jumping into a mp game.

I think you can download and play for free this weekend. Then if you want to keep playing after the weekend you have to purchase it.
That's correct TCT. You get to play for free but get the discounted price if you choose to buy it before the free weekend is over.

But if you buy it and ping me, I'll do my best to game with you. Remember - groups are only four, so it's not like the whole thread will be able to get a piece of me.
Speaking of Online Zombie games, have any of you spent any meaningful time with DayZ? I've tried to play but I'm always getting kicked off any server I try with some kind of code mismatch. I've gotten no more than perhaps 2-3 minutes in before it happens. Is it worth banging my head against the wall to try and figure out or just a Flash in the Pan?

You can play the campaign stories single player TCT. I've done that quite a bit actually when I just want to shoot zombies. The AI actually plays your team mates effectively.

Use a lower difficulty setting, though. The AI is okay, but it's hardly brilliant. And your AI buddies will not use any items beyond med kits. So the only one throwing molotovs or pipe bombs and the like is you, and you can only carry 1.

L4D2 is the perfect drunk-on-a-Friday-night MP game. I played the hell out of it last weekend....just way too fun.
Finished downloading last night but now I've got work today. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I can try it out.
I was looking at Left 4 Dead as well. Does the MP aspect allow me to jump into a Grog game regardless of where in the world we are?

Yes as long as you are friends. You can create a game that is limited to friends this is a for sure deal and I believe Steam group but to be honest I'm not a 100% sure on the Steam group.
Maybe worth a try though - according to Steam, its a 2 hour+ download, so I may start it and leave it overnight (its 10.35pm here, as I type).

BTW you're going to probably want a mic. I use a headset + mic combo. Communication in the game is important.
No probs there - I have a headset - geek, huw and I play that way with warlock MP. Its nice to trade insults by vocal means!
I've got a mic and headset and I'd be up for some MP this weekend.

Playing a few rounds would be a nice lead in to the latest Storm of the Century. Rumor has it that this SotC's been patched to 1.3, available to a larger distribution area and there are claims of improved customer support for this release... Still, I'd recommend insuring that you have the recommended specs this time as opposed to previous claims that the minimums were all that was required.
If we can get something going I will buy it right now. But to be honest it may be just as fun to keep annoying Bison.

It's telling me 1 day and 18 hours. So yeah it's pretty f'n slow, but that might just be my isp too. I have it on my laptop if folks want to try some MP tonight. Just post here or send me a message through Steam and I'll switch over to kill some zombies.
I'll try it after midnight...you know, and let it all hang out.

And really, they spend all their time sitting around and sobbing. So unless you're really in to emo chicks, probably not.

Are you part of the Grogheads Steam Group? I could be wrong but I think it tells you when other groupies are playing a multiplayer game. Not sure about how to get someone's attention ingame though. The game L4D2 seems to have it's own in-game join option- when I finally got it running it told me that Tent and Bison were already playing.

I have a few minutes. Jumping in momentarily.
If anyone is around later I will be down for some late night gaming, after 11pm EST.
Ok, I joined the group. That's kind of creepy being able to pull all you guys up and see what you're doing online ;)
Anyway, last night I was lasting about 2.5 minutes per round, so this really is a great game for just screwing around when nothing better grabs you. My prefered weapon is the M-16; that thing just mows down zeds in full auto!
Is there an option to move between semi and full auto after getting an AK or the like? One of the battle rifles I picked up had serious stopping power but I couldn't switch it to full auto.
I don't think so. The M-16 is always full auto, and that other machine gun is semi auto. The one with the scope is single shot.
I really like the shotgun, too, but I have better luck with the M-16.
Good afternoon of killing zombies with Bob48, Tent, LB and SDR. Tent only hit me in the back of the head with an ax one time. Yes he killed me. Saboteur that he is for the zombie hordes.

I sent you a friend invite. So accept that and when we are on all you need to do is log into L4D2 and join friend's game.
I'll be out this evening until 9ish EST, but will jump online after that to run and gun down some zombies for those who want to play.
We've been playing the normal campaigns on normal.
The invites are shown in an envelop looking thingy in the upper right hand corner of your profile page. Also because you are set to private noone will be able to send you a message unless they are your friend.
OK you need to go to your settings Toonce and change at least to friends only. I went to send you a message, but you are set to private so that blocks all communication from other Steam users.

Oh man, I just had the BEST gaming experience ever. So I join a random MP game and it's a map called, "The Concert". Basically it's a stadium and you start the battle by starting the concert and when you start, this rock music starts playing, flares start shooting all over, and then zombies just come piling over the seats. I'm standing on the stage just going full auto on the hordes with this intense rock music playing...it was so epic. I had this huge smile and I'm just blazing away!
I can't seem to find it again...damn I wish I had had my fraps set up!

That one ends with a chopper rescue too right? that one is cool. My L4D2 got messed up a few months ago, when i tried to run it crashed to Steam, don't know why, i uninstalled it. I will reinstall to check if it works. Must be something related with the constant weekly updates that had been going on for sometime with the in-game surveys and different types of game modes tests.
I don't know how it ends in campaign; I've been playing one-off survival matches.
Man, I need a break, I've been gaming all damn day.
I will be hopping on at 11. What weapons do I get to choose from as a newb?
All of them.
O SNAP. You playing tonight?

Oh man, I just had the BEST gaming experience ever. So I join a random MP game and it's a map called, "The Concert". Basically it's a stadium and you start the battle by starting the concert and when you start, this rock music starts playing, flares start shooting all over, and then zombies just come piling over the seats. I'm standing on the stage just going full auto on the hordes with this intense rock music playing...it was so epic. I had this huge smile and I'm just blazing away!
I can't seem to find it again...damn I wish I had had my fraps set up!
We played that earlier today and you are right it is epic!
OK I'm in game with server setup. Waiting to invite to game and chat server.
Just gotta wash up and brush my teefs.
That was pretty good. And I didn't really suck either. I'll play again!
I'm slightly disappointed that you didn't squeal in fright.
It was a good time guys.
^Yesterday while playing Skyrim I did squeal with fright, if you must know. Twice.

Thats the one I dropped into with Bison and Tent last night - its pretty frantic. I missed the chopper ride out on account of being slightly dead.

It didn't help that once you got mobbed and knocked to the ground we just left you and ran for the chopper :)

True but you did shoot SDR at point blank range in the back of the head. I'm seeing a pattern develop.

That's the final level on one of the maps. I forget which one at the moment. Yes, it's a blast.
If you like L4D2 you should buy the first one. It's actually better in terms of backstory. You need to play it about 20 times to get all the one-liners, but each of the characters will razz the others from time to time. Oh, and the shopping mall where you bust out of it with the car (an homage to the Dukes of Hazard) is not to be missed.

Says the guy who shot Gus to death just to use the defib paddles on him. :)
When you guys want to play again? Well worth the 5 dollah.
A comment on the weapons in L4D2.
The hunting rifle and sniper rifle will generally one-shot zombies, as will the .50 pistol. Those are my preferred go-to guns. However, a group should try to round out its load-outs. When a rush comes the group needs to huddle in a safe corner, put shotguns forward to mow down most of the group (while kneeling) with rifles/auto behind cutting down the survivors. There's actually a fair amount of tactical consideration that needs to be formulated into a group rush.
I need to configure my mouse buttons so I can speak with my headset (I prefer to activate my mic with my right thumb rather than whatever the default key is on the keyboard). Next time we can chat about how to approach these levels. Generally speaking flashlights should always be turned off. The group needs to stick together. No one should be more than about 15 feet forward of the group unless there's a really good reason for it. I'm sure I'll have a few other tips as I think about it.

I'm free for a bit but will have to bug out in a couple of hours. Should be free tonight.
I'll be on it a bit later. Plus I have a better idea of what's going after last night ( can still hear that frying pan - 'Gloiiinnngggg).
As eveyone knows I'm too lazy to use a push to talk key. I like to share my potato chip eating with the whole group. :D
I noticed. Thought maybe you were bit and eating brains.
I have storm prep to do today but this evening if I have power and cable should be able to play some...not as late though. I was gaming last night until 3am :)
If I go on tonight it will be around 10pm EST.
Yeah, I just pretend the crunching sound is Gus's ankle bones getting gnawed off. I'm thinking if Tent's in the group again, we may need helmets.

So that's what the crunching noise was?
For a time it was my ankles being knawed. Multiple times.
I can be online for another game but only after watching this week's The Walking Dead so probably just after 10pm EST.

I've noticed this as I've played. If I run around like crazy shooting zombies during a horde rush (my usual reaction) I take alot more damage then when I huddle up with others in a good spot. (Also it has been reported I may also hit friends in this frenzied state). I've also noticed if you can get some elevation on the zombies i.e. climb up on a car, dumpster, building etc. it slows them down a bit as they try to climb up and you can knock them off to buy yourself time to reload. And if Bison is in the group no one needs to worry about the jockeys they seek him and only him out :)
No internet since 5.00pm and will not be fixed until some time tomorrow, so no MP for me. Thank you Virgin Media, thanks a lot!
I'm up today for some Left 4 dead 2 Coop Realism mode if anyone wants to go.

I prefer to call that action a wise use of resources!
^Agreed...sometimes you just gotta shoot Gus to death.
Cool. Just found out that I am not to report to work tomorrow, as NY State is "closed." So I can play tonight after 10pm :)...if my power and cable stay on.
BTW how do you kneel in Left 4 Dead?
left ctrl is kneel.
Not that it matters, cause you're not going to have power much longer, and for a while after that... ;)

I don't work until 7pm tomorrow so I'm up for it. Do you really want to kneel Gus? That just makes you look like a Chicken McNugget with brain sauce.
Somebody ping me when you're up for some L4D2. The zombies in my neighborhood have been getting uppity and I'm ready to put them in their place.
Barring Toonces hastening my tech doom, I will jump on a little after 10pm. Thanks for the answer on key too!
I'll be on shortly...
PE
I'm up for a game or two as well...i'll be on Steam
Great. Are you guys members of the GrogHeads' Steam group? Have you friended us?
Oche: I can see your chat but can't respond - it says you're offline. Maybe your status is set to offline? Sorry, I can't respond.

Cool. We ready to get this party started?
We somehow managed to survive. Well everyone but Gussy. :(
I just could not make it onto the helicopter...it was mechanics. And a dash of panic.
I hated carnivals before. Definitely hate them now.

Remember: you don't have to be faster than the zombie horde, just faster than Gus.
And somehow, more often than not, I have to play the girl :/
L4D is definitely addicting.

Awesome! I didn't even think of taking screenshots during the game.
Looks like you "cool kids" had fun. :P
SDR and I got in some game time and it was alot of fun as well. I didn't even shoot any friends in the head this time! We just couldn't get past the last level before I had to leave. We had to turn on several generators, fighting a horde after each one. Then we get to this bridge that raises halfway before someone has to sacrifice themselves to go restart one of the generators. Oh and did I mention during that last part they send 4 tank zombies your way... Needless to say it did not go well. :o
Missed you guys last night.... had a couple things to get done and then came back and game was full.... looked like fun :-P
PE
Sorry I missed the fun guys. I would love to get in on the next zombie bashing outing. :)
Those pics are good, at the very least the game looks great! I can say with confidence that I probably shouldn'tplay during the week if I want to get any sleep at all.
Sorry we missed you, PE.
Oche, thanks for those pics. That was a fun game last night.
No prob, i'll probably play again a little this week on and off so i'll host "friends/private" games, i'll send invitations to see who wants to join...
Gus gots some junk in da trunk.
Sorry guys saw Oche's invite after I logged off of War of the Roses.

Sorry, Oche. It was fun.
I've always played survival mode. Have you guys tried that? Basically you just gun down zombies for as long as you can last...2-3 minutes is my average, although if you really use good teamwork I've seen guys last almost 10 minutes.

Sorry, Oche. It was fun.
You missed the pure delight of me knocking off the rust after not playing for awhile.
Within a minute, I think I had shot everyone in the back at least once. Hey, Oche threw down a molotov! Okay, let's put some bullets in that flaming guy! He won't go down! Man! And, why is AI Francis complaining about being shot? Oh...oh dear. Later, I could hear a Witch somewhere. Hmmm...no sign of her...I'll just shoot that zombie sitting around at the top of the stairs. Oh, she was right BEHIND him? Huh. And now I'm dead. ;D
Eventually, we made it to the finale, but it's that brutal one with the helipad and the never ending hordes of zombies and tanks that start coming out. Wasn't going well. Then a buddy called and I had to bail.
Good times, though!
No prob, I sent invitations out to join because i prefer playing with friends, I as well spent many months without playing left 4 dead 2, so I'm getting back in shape with the zombie killing. ;D
As for the survival mode, is really good but sometimes can get pretty hectic aside from the raging tanks with all the jockeys, smokers, chargers and boomers. My favorite gameplay mode is Realism mode, which is exactly as a normal game except you don't get the visual aids to locate the other survivors, so everybody has to be on constant lookout and comply with teamwork in order to survive longer.

And I dies often last night, and shot Oche in the back a couple of times :-p Haven't played in forever but really enjoyed it and look forward to playing more.
