So, the old galactic war starts again in Planetside 2. Any of you jokers going to load it up and, if so, what side are we playing? SOE is making this one free-to-play, with a store to buy new equipment and such (but they say it isn't balance killing, nor required). I'm skeptical about that, but I used to love the old one and am highly curious about this new effort (and since the entry is free, what do I have to lose).
Anyone play Beta and have any comments?
I've pre-ordered that package (Alpha Squad I think it's called) that let me in the Beta.
I never played the original, but so far I kinda like the Techology-guys more.
Im in
I'll probably give it a shot. I played the original for several months as a break from WW2 Online back when Planetside was first released. I tried all the factions but mostly played New Conglomerate.
It's pretty damned fun. I have no idea what's going on strategically and that's ok. I assume someone does.

I got it from Steam but there is some f×#& up with being forced to get an (free) account at the German pay to win licence holder ... which brought a new client who accept the account ID but didn't launch the game.... while the client from Steam didnt accept the through-their-biz-partners generated accounts ID ...
i hope i can join a server with some grogs one day, and it is not actually two Planeteside2 complete 'parallel worlds,' depending on the regional 'pay to win '-
service provider...
I'm pretty sure you are locked onto a server. I saw a Euro one along with the 4 North America ones when I signed up.
those were Euros who circumvent the forced euro account with proxys and obscure vpn network means, got them an US account instead, and played last night ...also those Euros who took part in the beta have access to the US world withtheir existing ID...
I'm playing so far as the Vanu but if you guys sign up I'd be glad to swap over to whatever the majority is.
I've played for a few minutes yesterday.
Seems to be less fun than in the Beta.
They also REALLY have to remove friendly fire among other things.
Most of the time people just run around cluelessly shooting everywhere.
I nearly got killed a dozen times by my own comrades, and even killed one of my comrades when he idiotically stepped into a firefight between me and one of the blue guys
who were spawning inside one of our bases. :P

I am on some J-named American East Coast server as Vanu (religious zealot militaristic academics, was there any doubt).
I had a good time last night, I may even pony up for a month premium or something. COD:BLOPS2 is too expensive and I can't see myself playing the single player campaign much.

The Vanu are the green on purple guys with Asian music and a love for technology right? (I'm those)
Yup. The ones who look like alien disco-lovers.
I might give this a bash since it's free, if it even runs on my ageing PC. Being a Euro I doubt I'll ever see any of you online so I'll pick whatever side I damn well please! :)
...now i was actually able to join a server ... i picked 'Jaeger' US east ... i think that was SoM's choice
This game barely runs on my PC.
I will make a Vanu on Jaeger as well!
So far the game is pretty fun, but could use some coordinated leadership. I've been involved in a few fun coordinated assaults with multiple full galaxies and escorting fighters. It reminds me a bit of the best times I had playing Aces High II. Though, most of the time we all run like lemmings to our destruction. :) There are, however, tools in place like Platoon and Squad waypoints that could work really well for a skilled armchair general to dominate the battlefield.
I agree the game is a system hog. I just built my machine so it runs silky smooth, but it uses more CPU than any other game I own. Nearly all 4 cores are fully tapped.
have a tr on waterson but only rank 2, havent even played it for an hour yet. little burnt out from the beta i guess! will make a vanu on jaeger as well. hopefully name will be same.
ok i am now on jaeger. name is cpthowdy.
Well I ended up liking the New Conglomerate best, and I'm on the Genudine server. I have a problem...I can't stop playing this game. When you can get a good commander and squad, its pretty amazing.
If we could get a regular night going...this could be a lot of fun. The strategic aspect has a lot of potential.
