Title: Space Marine 40K Multi CoOp - Success is measured in blood
Post by: PanzersEast on November 23, 2012, 10:20:10 AM
I know tonight's official game is Warlock, but if any of you brothers care to fight for the Emperor and kill some green skins, let me know.

Cleanse, Purge, KILL!

I'll have to install it. I picked it up recently as part of that Amazon bundle. Hopefully my 'puter can do the needed heavy lifting.

I picked it up a few days ago, but like many first- or third-person shooters ported from console versions I've played recently, it gives me one helluva headache and nausea when I play it.

The usual workaround for this is running the game in a 4:3 screen resolution (with no stretch - letterbox) so that it cuts the widescreen peripheral motion out doesn't work well in Space Marine.  It obviously doesn't support anything other than widescreen resolution, so the more even screen ratio is just squeezed in all fish-eyed.  :'(

Is there an option to disable motion blur in 40k Space Marine?

I would love to. I know I am signed up for Warlock but...I cannot resist this. What time?

Also - I noticed that there are tons of DLC packs for Space Marine...anyone have any of them? I think they are all for MP. I already have the Dreadnought DLC loaded in my shopping cart and ready to buy.

I don't have any of the DLC, but there are a ton of customization options in MP... you have to unlock them as you play MP, but a ton.

DLC

The customization options are what have hooked me here, some just look too awesome. And the idea of a player in MP taking control of a Dreadnought...oh my.

OK so it's like Left 4 Dead then. If some of you are around late, let me know. I hope to play some Space Marine after Warlock at around midnight EST if anyone is still awake.

Sober? Not likely.

I just saw the Steam note that you went on. I have a Warlock match in a few minutes but I can definitely meet up to play some Space Marine after that.

Ah. ok. we have this game for the Xbox 360. Not bad, but somehow it could have been so much more given this cool license. On the 360 there are only a few still playing it, situation better on the PC front? Anyway have fun folks  :)

Dunno.  I haven't found it very compelling, despite the WH40K setting.  Very console action-game where you're bashing a couple buttons over & over while being led down a hallway the whole way through.  :-[   I kinda expected that, from the description, so wasn't surprised.

I can see where multiplayer would probably be the most interesting way to play it, if only for more BOOM.  *shrug*

I loved it, but it was my first WH40K PC game.

Around tonight for MP very late if anyone else is.

Wait, really? Not even Dawn of War 1?

You should quickly rectify that inadequacy! I'm not sure if DoW2 ever got up to snuff (I could never get it to run well on my old system), and Soulstorm's two factions (Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldar) are rather buggy, but Dark Crusade has a very decent campaign (the first two games also do but they don't play much like the skirmish/mp mode) and skirmish/mp; and well-respected mods like DowPro make the vanilla game even better. (Although since the feds shut down a lot of file transfer services I don't know where to get the mods now.)

A strong contender for best RTS I've ever played; also a good system to learn RTS games on.

The single-player Chaos Rising game is the epitome of the genre. The Taint function is awesome. Russ' balls! It even corrupted Jarhead. Fortunately Fenris' finest are above falling to the temptation of using tainted gear.

Not to derail this distinguished site but I'm afraid I'm an achievement whore.  So here goes...

I'm looking to boost either DOW2 or DOW2: Chaos Rising.  Need to complete one mission on co-op.  Any takers?  I'll return the favor for anyone wanting to boost a cheevo.

If you can't find someone LMK. I think it's still installed. If not, I should be able to get it downloaded and going with a couple hours' notice.

I'm not really sure of what you speak.  But a "Taint function" sounds horrific.  Just horrific!  (https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffreeemoticonsandsmileys.com%2Femoticons%2FMood%2520Emoticons%2Fsick.gif&hash=2244c0230f7de97b36d6039d2ec43c64b44b5fb1)

Chaos Rising had a wonderful addition to gameplay called "Taint." If you didn't successfully complete some missions you might accumulate Taint. Some of the equipment you unlocked was tainted - if you used it you accumulated Taint.

Taint could be reduced, but it was really, really difficult. It was possible to succeed without using tainted objects, but it was really difficult.

The extra dimension of Taint moved the Dawn of War 2 series from good to great. They should add it to every game from here on out. It was even possible to become fully tainted and turn into a Chaos Marine, if that's what you wanted.

Hands down the Chaos Rising game was the finest of the series.

^^I concur with LB, Chaos Rising truly was the greatest in the series.

^^^Sounds great Gus.  I'm thinking probably this friday or saturday night but I have some time tomorrow (wednesday) evening as well.
