So, I want to get one of these games soon, but my gaming time these days is seriously limited (small child, pregnant wife, etc.) and I've got a few other good games to play these days (Torchlight 2, Warlock, and maybe I'll even dust off Dungeon Defenders).
I saw that FE is on sale at 33% off right now, so my question is: Should I buy either of these games right now, or give them another few weeks as the Devs continue to push out patches and fix up the game, then ask for them under the Christmas tree? And if I do ask, which one should I ask for?
Again, the problem isn't that I can't buy both. It's that I can't play both, because I just don't have the time to invest. Is either one sufficiently polished that I should go ahead and take the plunge for some TBS goodness, or should I just keep focusing on the games I'm playing right now? And should I wait until Christmas, or shoot early, because the game in question is really that outstanding?
Input is welcome, as I'm torn and the FE sale won't last forever, I'm sure!
I've played both and honestly I would choose Fallen Enchantress over X-Com. FE has a lot more replay-ability and is just more fun and keeps me coming back for more (one of my top games of the year). Ask any questions you have and I will answer them the best I can.

Two entirely different games, hard to compare them. I own and currently play both....I enjoy both and can recommend both. I find Xcom much more intense, especially the missions. FE plays out slowly over many, many turns....so it has a more relaxed feel about it. IMHO you can't go wrong with either.
My advice? Wait a month.
The Steam Christmas sale begins on Dec. 20th and runs through the end of the year. Fallen Enchantress had a brief 50% off sale as a Flash Deal this time around, and it's likely to go to 50% off then as well. And XCom had a 33% discount which is likely to be repeated. Might as well save as much as you can once we hit this time of year.
agree both great games, get em both in xmas sales
If it makes it any easier, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is on sale at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ALU5KG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B008ALU5KG&linkCode=as2&tag=gamerblacom-20) for $24.99 U.S.
Thanks, guys, I appreciate the replies. What I'm really looking for is replayability, which for me culminates in something that's not too formulaic and repetitive.
I loved the original Galciv, but after a while, it started feeling an awful lot like Spreadsheets in Space. There were just certain strategies and combinations that seemed to work too well every time, playing the computer. And the bonuses different planetary bases offered were boring. I love games with good unit customization, but not one with "spam customization", so each unit has its own character. That's what was lacking from GalCiv (and even 2, with the customized ship designs), and that's why I've been hesitant about Elemental: FE.
The original X-COM was one of my Top 5 games ever, but I'm not wedded to that approach. My major concern with it was that, after a while, the "grinding-to-storyline" ratio just got too low. I loved the research stuff and the new aliens and the unfolding plot, but the battles wore me out. It was an awesome game, but I don't want a game where each scenario plays the same way (more or less) after I've played it once or twice.
If unit customization there is good, I'll jump at it--might be changing Squad build-outs or might just be changing equipment.
Really, I just want a game with trade-offs as I design my forces. And AI that doesn't fall for the same stupid exploits time after time after time. Anybody have any thoughts on those criteria?
Thanks in advance to all of you for making my Holiday Wishes come truer! :D
