I don't care much about the Star Trek tie in, but Enterprise "is" the USN to me. I can't think of the USN without one, I really hate naming carriers after Presidents. Enterprise, Lexington, Yorktown, Saratoga, Hornet, Wasp, Essex - Those are aircraft carriers!

I'd agree to a compromise: the person whom the Carrier is named after has to have been dead at least 75 years. That will keep the naming option from being a mere political perk.
I'd love to see a carrier named for Halsey, rather than just a cruiser or destroyer.
Chekov should be there to say goodby to the newcleer wessel.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, I don't think it's inappropriate. (Actually, it was the USS Ranger standing in for the
Enterprise, which was out to sea the time, but still!)
