Title: Mortal Online
Post by: republic on December 03, 2012, 09:50:53 PM
Have any of you ever played Mortal Online?  http://www.mortalonline.com/

It seems like Eve Medieval or an MMO version of Mount and Blade.  I've downloaded it and played through the tutorial.  I like the idea.

OMGLOL!  I started checking out a couple YouTube vids about Mortal Online and found this one:

(I've only reached the part about "enjoying" the mushrooms you just ate. LOL)  EDIT: ROFL!!.. it gets even more hilarious after that!

Not really sure about how this thing would play out.  Sandbox sounds fun but it also sounds like it could be resource gathering monotony mixed with PvP griefing.   ???

I have played MO for quite some time in beta and upon release.
It was promised to be the next UO, but it failed miserably.

It is super grindy and at first about the only sensible thing you can do is either start mining or start cutting wood.... for hours on end.
Slowly your skills will increase and open up new ways to play.
Of course you can also roll a more combat oriented character, but the amount of player killing in MO is insane and you will quickly retreat back into town.

Their crafting system is super interesting by the way. Bows, for example, are being crafted according to real life mechanics with different wood types making the bow stiffer or less so. Cool stuff.

The game is to this date riddled with bugs and defunct features.
The world feels empty. The mobs that are there have brain dead AI and weird clipping issues.
The recently released expansion didn't make the game have a grandiose relaunch and I believe it will fizzle and die out soon.
It went F2P a few weeks ago as well.

Not much to see here, as far as I am concerned. And take that from someone who was super thrilled when it went into beta at first.

Thanks Ysk.  I feared it has been half-done and semi-abandoned judging by the pcgamer article I linked.
