Title: The Panzer Corps Thread (Blitzkrieg your way to glory!)
Post by: Sigma One on December 04, 2012, 12:28:02 PM
Hi gents,

Seeing that Panzer Corps is a popular series and we're coming out with new DLCs for it on a regular basis, I figured just one thread to handle it all might be best than clogging up with multiple threads. This could also be the one-stop place for Panzer Corps-related discussions, comments, etc.

So without further ado, here's the latest news piece! We released the 9th DLC '44 West. This one adds in 14 scenarios: Anzio, Cassino, Monte Cassino, Beaches of Normandy, Bayeux, Villers-Bocage, Caen, St. Lo, Falaise, Toulon, Montelimar, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Eindhoven

At this point in the war the German Army is fighting a defensive battle against the Allies as they land in Normandy, push up through Italy and start to close in. As with all the DLCs, you can use a preset core force or keep using your own from previous Grand Campaigns to continue the fight.

Has anyone been playing the Grand Campaigns from the start with their own core force?

Not yet.

In a way, I'm not sure I see the point, at least from the Axis perspective. In the base Grand Campaign game, as with the original Panzer General, it's possible to accomplish something strategically as the Axis. (Or am I wrong about that?--I recall PC's vanilla campaign being a mirror to PG.)

If the Axis do ahistorically well on any of the expansion GCs, what happens when the core force is transferred to a further GC?

I stopped playing after being hammered in my first run.  I'm so behind I wish we get a full add-on compilation.

I wanted to enjoy the series, but the first one turned me off with turn limits.. Hey, I suck.. but have an easier mode where I too can have fun with the game!.. Having to type the turn cheat in, to finish each battle kind of sucked..

LOL.. I don't think I"m that bad a Strategy Gamer, I do ok in other games at normal settings.. but Panzer Corp/Panzer General.. couldn't get a win on easy.. so it got old real fast..

Yep. Turn limits are very tough.

I got through the '39 DLC, then detoured into Northern Africa. I own the rest of them and have every intention of finishing the series, but so many games, so little time! Plus Commander:The Great War came along and I've been into that. So eventually.....

I finished the whole East Front DLC series. I liked it, it's Panzer General updated.

After a while it can get predictible later but the early years can be a real challenge. They do a good job of throwing in a few different types of missions or ones where they limit your core to give it some variety.

I have the Campaign East except for '45.
I have the Campaign West first expansion.

To answer an earlier question - the Campaigns do not allow you to reverse the slow strangulation of Nazi Germany.  The exception is the Afrika Korps release which is a full game.

The games are lots of fun.  The first Campaign West was very challenging.  There are reviews of several expansions here and at www.wargamer.com

I have about 75% of a general strategy guide written - but then my real world jobs sucked away all of my free time.

I heard they might have a 'What if' DLC with Germany invading the USA after all the other theaters were completed.
