True I don't know jack about the game, still have to try out single player and still have to purchase a Track IR with my lunch money, but there has been some interest lately so I wanted to suggest a Friday evening MP game with whoever's interested. Discuss.
I'm up for it.
Do we have a server?
What settings do we want to use?
Uh...yes?*
*I have no idea I just work here.
You still owe us some Warlock MP. Slut.
I am versatile, I can do both. Hey at least I show up, unlike others who shall remain nameless like Windy and Bart.
I will give you that. If you get on tonight, I have some time.

OMG! :o
You, sir, have entirely, too much time on your hands AND a dirty mind! Now, go wash that cranium out and don't come back until it's squeaky clean!!!
So, what's the plan? Have you picked out an appropriate set of flying trousers?
So I just realized I have the free download of this one on my computer but never gave it more than a cursory glance. If I am around I might join you guys if thats alright.
I'm unsure if I should start playing this without TrackIR. You may have seen one of my dozen posts on the subject...what do think?
Give it a whirl. We can grab an empty server and set padlock on for you. Or, if you find flying too frustrating, we could fly two seaters and you can take the gunner's seat.
Cool, who is going to host? Is joining a game pretty standard stuff?
Hopefully Tuna will be around and can set things up as he's got the link to a team speak server and whatnot. If not, I'm sure we can find an empty server on the list and just jump into that.
I tried to create a server but I can't get it to become visible to others even after clearing the .msnbin. Hopefully someone else can set one up.
Tuna and I got a few missions in on the New Wings server. It was pretty fun even though I never could seem to link up with Tuna. (always lost sight of him in the clouds or in a furball). I got 5 kills, died 3 times and got to shoot at dirty Huns with my Webley. Good times!
Just got your Steam IM :/
Post here if you are around tomorrow night. Between now and then I should get some time in to learn.
Some screenies
Moving in on a furball on the German side of the lines.

Man, what the hell am I doing in a Sopwith Triplane? All the German players are in DVIIs or Dr1's.

Thank Jeebus that there were a couple of Entente guys in SE5's keeping the Germans distracted. I get the jump on a DVII that was fixated on an SE5

But he quickly turns the tables on me so I have to bust out the Webley.

It doesn't work out so well.

Next flight up, I run into more DVIIs and Dr1s
I get the jump on a DrI (I think it's the same guy from before) and send him into the dirt.

Then I get behind a DVII

And BBQ him up right.

Great screenshots SDR!
Sweet SDR. Your plane sponsored by Pepsi?
Do I look Egyptian to you?
Yes.
Cool shots! :)

+1
Loved your screenshot of the Webley.
Keep updating here when you are around. Once I do the tutorials and some practice missions I will want to get into MP. And probably buy a crapload more planes. And the Channel map. And a seaplane. Etc.
I'm around today/tonight if you want to get some flying or gunnery in.

Thanks. they're a bit small and the FOV looks a bit restricted because I cropped them to remove the chat logs and whatnot.
I am residing in the GMT + 1 area, so depending on where you guys are it might be difficult to join up.
But IF possible, I would like to.
GMT here too, but Friday is generally my RoF night. If any of you trans-Atlantic chappies are about on a Friday afternoon, I'm usually on New Wings Wargrounds or Syndicate Realism, depending on which is more full. I'm going to make sure I'm on the same side as SDR, though - five kills in one session! That's about a month's worth for me.
This is quite handy for seeing what's going on:http://online.riseofflight.net/en/ (http://online.riseofflight.net/en/)
LOL. The only reason I was able to get 5 kills was because I was in a Sopwith Tripe when everyone else was in Camels or SE.5's. Coming after me would've been kind of like picking on the special needs kid for his lunch money. I'd just kind of fly around looking pathetic until someone turned their back on me, then I'd let 'em have it with full on retard strength.
Slightly OT, but...
A squad mate of mine is a retired pilot who flew fighter jets and then airliners in Canada. Towards the end of his flying days, planes got more and more computer assisted. This got to the point that if you were landing too "hot" a computerised voice would urgently tell you to slow down. Seeing as how this was in bilingual Canada, what the computer actually yelled at the pilot was "Retard! Retard! Retard!"
Oh dear.
Mon Dieu!

;D
So? We doing this thing or what?
You said you may be out of commission because of the weather...if you're around, name a time and I would love to fly gunner with you.
I should be available anytime after 4 pm PST (that's 7pm for you). The weather has settled down here now and our new 3 billion dollar bridge is no longer actively trying to kill people with ice bombs so it should be fine.
Just to let you know, I've lined my flying cap with newspapers to prevent any "accidental" stray rounds from the back seat AND I've got a Webley that points backwards! I've even managed to hit a plane with it once. Yes, yes. I'm well aware of the scurrilous rumours floating around that claim that the plane I managed to hit was my own but these were obviously spread by seditionists.
Sounds...threatening.
Tuna and SDR were gracious hosts. I got to fly as gunner in a Halberstat, and a Gotha, and one other plane whose name escapes me. I fired off maybe 3 shots :)
On the last mission I guess my gun jammed. I'll know for next time to hit 'R'. I think I can learn a lot by tagging along as gunner with Tuna, SDR, etc.
Gus and I in DFW with SDR flying Escort
Gus and I diving in on the Allied Fuel dump in the Halberstadt CL.II.. We got shot down by flack shortly after
Yeah, sorry that wasn't the most action packed session, Gus. That was a pretty poor map in my opinion. Too many targets, too spread out meant that there wasn't a lot of contact and the flak was far too accurate.
The admin said she'd be willing to set up a training session tomorrow night where we'd all fly a co-op type mission against AI pilots so you can get a feel for the controls, navigation, etc.
Thanks man, got your PM too. I am in a bit of a pre-Christmas rush but the admin's idea sounds awesome. You guys up for it on Wed. or Thurs? Thanks for taking me under your 'wings.' You are the wind beneath mine. And other horrible metaphors.
Since there's been a revival of interest in RoF here, anyone care to say where and when they tend to fly and under what alias?
If I'm on it's usually 2000-2200 GMT/BST on New Wings Warground or Syndicate Realism, and I'm "Father Ted"
I'm up for it. I haven't played RoF online for a few months as I've been pretty much just doing ArmA but if we can get a few guys together and find a time that works for everyone, I'm in.
I've still not been on-line with it yet, still training with my DH4, but I'm willing to give it a bash.
My name on there is, erm, 'Ginger Knutt'.......... :-[
Sorry I missed your post Bob.
I was busy Roffing on Saturday in the "Bloody April" campaign. This is a series of online battles in which each side is given tasks and their commanders formulate plans to carry them out. Each side gets points for succeeding at their task (eg bombing an airfield or recon). At the end of 9 missions the scores are totted up to find who is the winner. From a personal perspective, what makes it exciting is that you're flying with a purpose and dead is dead (even if you prang your kite on take-off).
The reason I'm describing it here is that I thought it resembled a staff officers' wargame. Each side has to organise its troops with a chain of command and work out how to utilise its resources. For instance there was a bit of a row about the best pilots being given the best machines, but that was considered the most profitable strategy by the commander.
It's really designed for clans to fly together. It's a little frustrating for me as a "mercenary" (the thought of anyone employing me as a virtual fighter pilot is pretty chucklesome) as I'm left out of things. For instance, in my sortie on Saturday I was lumped in with a bunch of Russians. TS is allowed within a flight, but it was lost on me - although I did learn that there is no Russian word for "two seater". The lack of communication actually wasn't too much of a hindrance as I just followed my comrades about the sky as we escorted a couple "Harry Tates" on their arty shoot. We were set upon by a bunch of Albies, but managed to shoot them all down (good pilots the Russians). Inevitably I got separated during the scrap but managed to navigate to home base and landed intact.
So if I'm picked to fly next time, I'll be busy on Saturday, but I shall look out for "Ginger Knutt" on the servers.
Good stuff Ted, thanks. I deffo need more practice. I aint yet tried bombing with the DH4, although it does carry a decent payload.
Can the any of the RoF kites be polycrewed (more than 2)?
For the Entente side the HP400 and the Felixstowe can take at least three, while the Gotha for the Central has a similar compliment
Room for a gunner in the back of my DH4.
