I have decided that, according to math, I have a bunch of games.

So, for discpline's sake, I really really really reaaaaallly ought to start finishing some games before I buy any new ones.
Since weekends tend to be when I get to play the most, Monday is most often when I have recently finished games.
So in the spirit of the weekly Friday game thread, I propose a weekly Monday thread, dedicated to reporting any games I finished (or at least made headway on if I didn't finish them) over the weekend, or that I finished since the previous Monday.

As for criteria, tentatively I'm considering the following (for myself, not for other people):
1.) Finish five games before buying a new one.
2.) A single game gifted to me counts as "new"; a gamegifting season (i.e. birthday or Christmas or some rare gift-giving occasion) counts as one new game, so long as I'm not the one buying the games. (I didn't want upcoming Christmas to fox my procedures out of the gate and trap me with 20 games to finish before getting any new ones. THEY'RE MY PROTOCOLS SO THERE!)
3.0.) What does "finish" mean?
3.1.1.) Games I've already given up on for whatever reason don't count as finished. (This keeps me from digging around and saying, "Oh, I bought Rogue Spear ten years ago and never beat the campaign, so that counts as finished.")
3.1.2.) Games I've already "finished" before now, according to criteria below, don't count. (This keeps me from digging around and saying, "Oh, Warcraft 2. Finished, that counts as a game.")
3.1.3.) Games I buy that I quickly give up on because I don't like them or they're buggy, don't count as finished. (This forces me to move through more products.)
3.1.4.) Games I own that I can't play yet because I don't have the hardware don't count as finished. (Obviously. And soon to be fixed with a new Falcon MachV soon to arrive. ;D )
3.2.1.) Games with a clear progression to a conclusion of a story or campaign count as finished. This includes games like Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30, or Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, where there isn't much to do after the storyline is over. But it also includes games like Company of Heroes where there's lots of viable skirmish and multiplayer action after (or instead of) the campaign.
3.2.2.) Relatedly, finishing a grand campaign in a more freeform strategy game counts as finished.
3.2.3.) Alternately, if I play the game for at least 25 hours (conservatively estimated where I don't have a gameclock) I'll count that as good play value and thus finished for purposes of when I can buy a new game.
So 125 hours of play or five storyline/campaigns, whichever combination of the two comes first.
3.3.1.) Games I've been playing that I like but haven't finished, aren't finished yet but still can be.
3.3.2.) Expansion packs count as separate games, although smaller scenarios may be substituted for grand campaigns. (But if new campaign-storylines are included, at least one of those has to be finished.) So every expansion to Elven Legacy counts as its own entry to be finished.
3.3.3.) If a game has multiple long campaigns, only one has to be finished to count. For example every faction in Dawn of War: Soulstorm has its own campaign; but I would only have to finish one.
3.3.4.) If I spend up to two hours seriously trying to get into a game and I just can't, that counts as one game finished. So Demons' Souls would have counted, had I not already finished it according to this protocol; but the PC version of Hornet Leader, which I quickly decided I wasn't fond of and which featured a game-breaking bug wouldn't have counted. This keeps me from being shackled to a game I've tried hard to like, while also keeping me from "burning" a game in my stacks that I suspect I won't like or that I quickly find to be not fun.
I'm not sure I'll have any other games "finished" by next Monday, aside from Portal (which I expect to finish tonight), but with public accountability perhaps I can curb my terrible addiction and be an example of fiscal responsibility to my brethren here on... wait, have I checked Steam's holiday sale today yet?

None. I just started Balder's Gate again. So that should be complete sometime next spring. Also started up a game of Eador: Genesis. I'm pretty sure that might last about 3 years.
See, I badly want to try the Eador: Genesis game (now that it's sort-of not broken anymore), and also the Balder's Gate upgrade (which I never got close to finishing originally in the first place).
BUT I REALLY OUGHT TO FINISH SOME OF MY OTHER GAMES FIRST!!

I finished Max Payne 3. Very nice graphics and top notch production values but I felt that there wasn't enough time spent playing between the many cut scenes. I had fun while I played it but I think I would have been disappointed had I paid full price.
I reinstalled Assasin's Creed and i'll take one last crack at trying to finish it. I deleted it both other times I tried by about the 3rd or 4th assassination. Too much time walking down the hill from Assassin HQ and they really need a button that lets you stab your victim in the throat again once they launch into a soliliquy after you've stabbed them the first time.
I can't keep up with the rules of this thread let alone finish anything. Does getting my arse kicked by general slocum on day 1 of Chancellorsville count as finished? Sure felt that way. Didn't see that brigade on my flank.
I started, and finished, my sixth or seventh attempt at Monarchy level in Civ IV BTS.

I finished the Leviathon DLC for Mass Effect 3 this past weekend. I finished the campaign on Hardcore for Gears of War last week.
Games I'm trying to finish:
1. History: Legends of War Patton
2. Mass Effect 3 2nd playthrough in order to pop Long Time Service Record cheevo
3. Dynasty Warriors 7 Campaign mode (need to capture a few more cities to complete that cheevo)
4. Commander: The Great War*
*Now here's a game that I liken to a stunningly hot blonde who knows it and is a bitch. You can't stop thinking about her and just want to perform the desired action to completion but she constantly smashes through your defenses at the last minute from out of nowhere totally destroying your chances of getting a second date.
So in my grand 1914 campaign I've stabilised the western front, Turkey is holding the line just north of Damascus and I'm happy with that for the time being, Russia and Rumania are disintegrating before the combined onslaught of Austria, Bulgaria, and Germany, and I finally have fighters with forward firing machine guns in action. The only part where I'm getting schooled very badly is on the Italian front. Due to a stupid mistake of mine the whole front crumbled and Italy is now drinking beer in Munich. I'm f'ing pissed that for once I was doing well with this game only to make one tiny f'ing mistake that cost me an entire front.
I want to jump this games bones so much because it is so hot but on the other hand I just want to bitch slap it so bad it ends up in another time space continuum different from mine.

I have had enough sense to keep AssCreed1 permanently installed on my PS3 for years, so that every once in a while I can advance the next repetition of prior gameplay. :P I think I only have four complete "missions" to go. (The last two in the last city, and then the final two missions whatever and wherever they are.)
I've gotten an impression (possibly false) that the gameplay isn't so ridiculously repetitive in the sequels. So if I can just get past this opening hump... it's certainly on my list of games to finish.
I finished Max3 several weeks ago--I think I paid full price for it. Not particularly disappointed with the length, since the production values had shot up a lot. As someone else said, yay for 6 hour gameplay!

I've been hearing a number of "honeymoon is over" posts about that game, but also that there's some kind of glitch in the game that should be patched soon, where the computer gets extra resources it shouldn't and elite troops early, etc.
Personally, I'm happy enough to stay with my WW1Gold, even though I've been thinking about SC:WW1+BreakNO! NO I'M NOT THINKING ABOUT BUYING ANOTHER GAME!! STAY THE COURSE, STAY THE COURSE!!!

Yes, I shall be "finishing" several games with this. Its specs are made entirely out of fear.
The actual purpose of it, however, is to run high-end drafting programs like Shade and Vue Infinite. It's slightly
under-powered for that purpose!--but I've left some room for expansion in a couple of areas, mostly to do with extra/stronger video cards. (There really are video cards more powerful, so much so that games can't use them.)
Finished off Mark of the Ninja and Walking Dead last week. Highly recommend both of them. ;D
I rarely bother with side-scrollers (like Mark of the Ninja), but Trine, Trine 2 and the Orc campaign for T2 are all on my to-finish list. I've made a good start on Trine, but the sequel won't run on my old WinXPSP2 system.
An inequity that will soon be rectified... 8)
Incidentally, I did finish Portal last night although it took me longer than I was expecting.
So yay, my first game finished before I'll allow myself a new one!--four more to go. (I have Portal 2, but will have to wait until the new Falcon arrives. I'll probably wait until then to restart Half-Life 2, too, unless my save games were archived on the Steam synch cloud back a few years ago when I uninstalled.)
I finally beat FTL on easy, time to regroup and play something else.
This weekend, after a solid week of playing through it from scratch, I can say I'm fairly well finished with Fight Night Champion, aka Fight Night 3.5.
From a newly built fighter, with a pitiful reach (yet whose skills lend toward counter-punching and jab/straights), and with a humorous amount of flab for a minimal (200 lb) heavyweight, I advanced to winning one of the three world championship belts; and based on comparative athletic stats plus past experience with the game I'm pretty sure he can take Ali for another belt.
Theoretically I could run him further, but eh. Other games to be played.
Two games down, eight more to be completed before I buy another game.
(Note: normally it would be three games to go, but with Christmas coming next week I'm sure I'll be gifted at least one game--but I'll only treat whatever I receive as one game. This way I'm still reducing some bulk before buying another game, but multiple games received at Christmas don't count entirely against me since I'm not spending money on them.)
Finished my replay of Mass Effect 2 over the weekend. Now it's Alan Wake's turn, though I think tonight is going to be devoted to some of that 'reading' I hear people enjoy.

Well, my Dad has been in the hospital with... um... vegetables growing in his chest. (I kid you not, that's what the doctor says. His precise words were "It's extremely rare, but not uncommon." This does not fill any of us with significant amounts of confidence that they're going to get it out... :-\ )
So he'll be in the cardiac ward through Christmas tomorrow and probably New Year's next week, too. :(
Notwithstanding this, I have managed to finally hook my new Falcon to the internet (after a mighty struggle yesterday in between hospital trips), and at some point in the past week I also managed to finish (both of them on my PS3)...

By which I mean I had already started both games a while back, and plugged along with them further to the point where I'm almost to the end of the PC story, and I'm sure I'm nowhere near the end of the PQ1 story, and I don't really care about finishing either one, and I'm sure I've seen all the relevant gameplay available. No doubt I'll plink away at each of them here and there in the future, since really the point of either game is to set up a reason to play jewel-matching games, which each game has a very different variation of, and which each game very cleverly integrates with fantasy rpg tropes: each fighter in a duel uses the gem-matching mechanics (PQ1 is turnbased, although a timer can be implemented; PChron is realtime simultaneous) to power up spells and abilities, earn extra gold and experience, and otherwise position to strike damage at the opponent. PChron even features a well-animated scene above the puzzle field which translates the action into the duel between the player-character and the opponent!--it's good enough that I kind of regret not being able to play the slightest attention to it, because for all practical purposes the player has to stay focused on the gem-matching mechanics! ::)
Anyway. I can add them to my list--I've definitely cleared 25 hours each game (not all of which was last week but I did make significant progress)--which brings me to four games finished now.
Out of dozens.
But after another six games finished (accounting for Christmas tomorrow which I'll count as one new game regardless of how many I receive), I'll allow myself to buy a new one! :)
Meanwhile, having spooled up my Falcon MachV, which I have nicknamed THE PRESENCE (and which looks like the 2001 black monolith except with a FNW bird glaring at me), I think next I'll start a game fresh that I've had a while but never could get to run with more than slide-show stutters on my XP...
DAWN OF WAR 2!
(And then the Chaos expansion for the next game after that. Then maybe one of the Retribution campaigns.)

Game-wise, I've mostly been playing Distant Worlds: Legends with the recent beta update the last couple days. I'm continuing my game as the Foundation (Humans); things are proceeding pretty well so far.

I finished my first SP campaign of Warlock by casting the unity spell.
I'll 32 hours in on Kingdoms of Amalur as a mage, and I've probably seen 1/4 or less of the game so far. It's just freaking monstrously huge, and has some really well-done storylines. Best 11 bucks I've spent on a game in a looooooooooong time.
I've had my eye on Armalur, too, for a while. Good to hear! Not entirely sure it's the first new game I'll buy once I work down to it, but it's on my list.

Just make sure you know what you're getting into... If you expect an old school RPG like baldurs gate, you'll be disappointed. I just find it an extremely well done streamlined action rpg.

Finally succeeded, no thanks to the registration engine itself. Was unaware I would hate something more than Steam (although Windows 8 is fast approaching that dubious goal). I feel positive affection for Steam now as a perverse result.
Unsure if I'll get the first campaign finished this weekend under the circumstances, but I'll be able to give it a try. :)

As for 'Games For Windows Live', I had my first encounter after finding out that Batman: Arkham City GotY had it. The infernal thing took numerous restarts and relogs to get it to finally work properly. And then I installed DOW II and it kept crashing at startup, like clockwork. After a short google search, turns out that it's yet another bug-prone DRM scheme taking a dump on us. I had to navigate to the GfWL installation and start it manually, before starting the game, in order to get it to work afterwards. ::)
I will echo my hopes and prayers for Jason's father as well. The last game I actually finished was Planescape Torment, and what a great finish it was. I also finished Baldurs Gate, after losing the original in a disk-crash, after finding it on GOG. I've won campaigns in Shogun2TW, RTW and M2TW. And way back when, I played and finished the original Might & Magic I. The ending didn't involve any kind of Boss-Battle, rather when you finally reach the "Inner Sanctum", you see a guy playing a computer on the screen and receive a score along with an address to send it to. I got back through the mail in a few weeks a certificate of game completion along with notification of scoring in the top 15%. I have no idea how the game was scoring my play but consider this to be absolute evidence of Honorary Nerd-Hood foreverlasting on my part.

And yeah, GfWL is a clunker. Every single time it has tried to update within game as it likes to do, it fails. I always have to do it manually.
Update: surgery was postponed until Tuesday (currently, maybe later since he isn't exactly in critical need of it and emergencies might delay him again). He's on a stiff Heprin (Heparin?) regime until then. In relatively good spirits, despite having now spent a week in the hospital (along with Mom) over Christmas (and soon to be NY) holidays.
Fortunately, our small factory made enough profit this year that we can send the guys home with paid holiday vacations (and good bonuses) until sometime after NY; possibly (probably) even though all next week. :D Although Mom and I have been here at the office several hours a day since Christmas closing out the year (or trying to).

I'm now at the point in DoW2's first campaign, where to stop the Tyrannids I have to do three things on various planets (and have unlocked access to the forge planet, though not yet the forge. Got to stomp some Eldar first.)
I'm sure I won't be exactly announcing breaking news if I state that I don't like this campaign as much as the skirmish (or even the skirmishy campaign structure) of the prior two DOW1 releases.
It isn't even as good, IMO, as the story-based campaigns for the first two DOW1 releases, each of which featured variable objectives on cleverly designed maps, and which also had the added play-bonus of (usually) some base-building. In DoW2's first campaign, the missions (so far, probably 2/3 of the way through...??) tend to be very, very samey: drop in with my squads (always the same hero plus three out of always the same four support), sometimes on repeated maps; wander around fighting to achieve retreat/restock points (on maps for which there are no save points, by the way); take one (but only one) of the two special resource points (almost always on the far left and right of the map); advance to the other end where a single boss (almost always without cronies, and almost always overpowered) stomps on me and my squads for a while. If I lose, I get to keep any points I won, but I do it otherwise all over again. Wargear adds some minor variance. The view is so far up as to make gameplay feel very distant (and zooming in feels too cramped, plus it never seems to stay there), so the computing horsepower to play the game feels wasted.
Of course I've heard that the second campaign (for Chaos Rising--and there's a classic case of on-disc paid DLC!) is much better. But I'm seriously thinking of skipping Retribution and going back to get at least one campaign victory in Soulstorm as the first in my next set of game-finish catchups.
As to blankety-cussing GFWL: fortunately, I own a PS3, and so can easily avoid most of its shenanigans. But I'll be thinking very hard in the future about ever investing time and money into a PC-only game run through GFWL again. (Another reason I'm currently iffy about buying Retribution as my next new-game--it's GFWL, too, right?)
Sir Slash: BG1 & 2 (the former of which I've never gotten more than about 1/4 through) are definitely on my list of already-bought games to finish/play; as is Planescape (of which I've naturally heard many loud praises over the years).
I beat M&M2 many many years ago, but I think that was the only M&M game (per se) I've ever played. (HOMM2 somewhat.) I don't recall whether there was a boss.
I never got more than maybe 25% of the way through M&M2. I think I had gotten into my 3DO phase and was hooked on Panzer General at that time. After that all the stuff for the Amiga just went away. Anyway, I'm very glad to hear your father's doing better and hope for his speedy recovery.

Over the extended weekend I did beat the first DoW2 campaign. I started Chaos Rising a few minutes ago, and after only one mission I already like it better. It helps that the game writers include fluff details dating back to the very first DoW1 campaign--I'm starting to remember characters and events from each campaign except Soulstorm, which amusingly one of the characters doesn't want to remember or talk about. ;) That seems like the writers acknowledging the game was a bit misbegotten, but if the Blood Ravens didn't "win" the Soulstorm campaign, I wonder who did? Hm--will have to research.
Anyway, while this puts me at five games finished, and thus "unlocks" permission for me to buy a new game, I'm thinking of going for fifteen games finished, because I have my eye on the three-game collection of Mass Effect (none of which I've ever played because my old Falcon wouldn't run the first game and the PS3 only just recently ported it.)
In other news: Dad came through the major surgery with insanely good flying colors--literally less than fifteen minutes once the op started. This led the doctors to rather drastically overestimate his condition, and they tried a much less dangerous second procedure this afternoon rather than waiting another couple of days, the upshot of which is that he started having small heart attacks this afternoon. >:(
At least both are done now, but I'm not at all comfortable with the concept of him coming home before Saturday. I want them to keep him on observation for a clear 48 hours of no problems at least. I know he (and Mom) want to come home, but strategically it just isn't a good idea to hurry things, as this afternoon proved.

Just finished Majesty - fun game but that last mission is a killer. Now on to the expansion, then Majesty 2.

I finished a Hell level run and killed the first boss on Inferno with my monk character in Diablo 3.
I just killed my first Master Vampire(Skyrim Dawnguard). Scared the hell outta me when he came at me outta nowhere right in the middle of Winterhold and it wasn't even totally dark yet. My first play with the Dawnguard DLC.

Finished a Civil War Generals 2 campaign...it's a draw. I was really suffering in the end....tougth game, especially if you play the Confederates....

If your not ready for it, there are several mods that give you items that will stop then random vampire attacks until you want them. I had a few attack Whiterun right after I hit level 10, and was in no place to kill them. They killed a few guards, the blacksmith lady at the entrance and a couple of other random townsfolk.
Speaking of Skyrim, I have almost finished the mage college quest line. I'm in the last dungeon then its off to fight the boss. After that I think I'm going to do some daedric shrine quests. I don't see myself doing much more with this character beyond them. He's not the sort of character then I can see doing any of the other major faction quest lines.
Haven't checked this thread in a long time. Glad to see your Dad is doing well Jason.
I am a hair's breath away from finishing the Dawnguard main quest in Skyrim as well as the base game main quest and two or three other linked quests. I am a Level 28 dark elf and I have put almost 100 hours in.
Skyrim is by far one of my favorite all time games.

Fortunately, this is not a euphamism for him dying from the doctors rushing him out of the hospital due to insurance pushing. ;)
(I do think they rushed him out too soon, however. Would have preferred a good 48 hours observation with no further incident. Oh, well.)

Yeah that's my monk in all his mis-matched equipment glory. I've come to the realization after having logged well over 100 hours in Diablo 3 that I actually like the game. That's not to say there aren't areas that need some improvement, but it's all I've been playing again for the last week or so.
Well, Mass Effect 3 is in the books. Overall I liked it. As for the ending, I didn't hate it but it was...weird. Really weird.

Yeah that's my monk in all his mis-matched equipment glory. I've come to the realization after having logged well over 100 hours in Diablo 3 that I actually like the game. That's not to say there aren't areas that need some improvement, but it's all I've been playing again for the last week or so.
Maybe I'll fire it back up again soon. Haven't played in awhile. My biggest complaint about the gameplay was how short the campaign is, and not liking the final act very much. But some of the character abilities were fun.

I'm not sure what it is but I find the game play really fun especially when you find yourself in a group that works well together. I've been playing around alot with different class specs on my monk and demonhunter and that has helped too. Toward the end the last time I played, I'd sort of locked myself in on 6 skills and rune sets and didn't deviate. The game got stale. Now I'm trying out new tactics with different specs and its a lot of fun. The loot hunt is good but I've come to accept that my account is cursed in regard to uber lootz. I've only found 2 legendary pieces of gear in 120+ hours of playing and I don't like the AH because of the RMAH and the AH that trades on in game gold is crazy over priced. So I'm content to just grind and grind. Pick up a useful piece of gear every now and again hoping for the orange/green drop. I hope they address the map variety in an expansion. The game needs more map variety badly. That is my biggest complaint but to be fair even Torchlight 2 doesn't have that much variety either. Dins Curse has it right.

For best clarification, are you talking about the original ending or the extended ending? (I haven't seen either, yet.)
I've played all three of the series and I think overall the Mass Effect games are really great. I was however disappointed with the conclusion of ME3. I've played through it twice both times with the extended ending. Not every story has a happy ending and I can accept that however given what Shepard went through in all three games to save the galaxy it was a bit of a let down in my opinion as far as the ending of ME3 is concerned.

You only get the extended versions now. They updated to those with a big patch.

I enjoyed actually playing through the game (though was initially soured when they killed off 2 of my favorite characters fairly early...). They did one thing REALLY well that I haven't experienced in a game since Metro 2033, where the background characters are actually having really interesting conversations and interactions that evolve as the game goes on. I liked the way it actually ended (there are 4 endings, for those who don't know. I watched the other 3 on Youtube) and the way it played out. My issue was before that, with the ending set up and the...
...God kid or whatever the Hell that was. I'm still pretty much completely baffled by that mess, and it seemed really hacked together.
