I'm cautiously optimistic, but that review does almost nothing to explain the gameplay.

There are quite a few videos on youtube that goes into some depth on the game

Yeah, I found some afterwards, but it just would be nice for a reviewer to actually talk about the gameplay, and not stories about Lincoln or how the AIs have interesting names....

He wrote it from a beta; it's not even in the app store.  I guess "Preview" isn't in his dictionary.

Jim, he got an early release review copy. The way the Apple Store works is that you submit the "Gold" version several weeks before they put it on the store. They do whatever they do, then they get it up on the store based upon a lot of non-game related factors. AFAIK, the copy he reviewed is the same as the one that will be on the App store, and this is an actual review and not a preview.

Now he barely talked about the gameplay... but that is a separate issue altogether.

Can't check iTunes now since I'm using an android phone. Does it say it supports 1st gen iPad. Got disappointed with Phantom Leader.

This is what the blurb says - but dont take my word for it.
This game will run on all versions of the Apple iPad, and the iPad Mini

The wife has been wanting an iPad for ages - she may just get one now out of the goodness of my heart.

Oh Zulu, don't delay in buying an ipad. I've been a strategy gamer for 30+ years since I saved up $1800 running paper routes to buy my first computer - Atari 800 - to get some SSI Civil War Game - Antietam I think. Ever since then I've been a steady consumer of Strategy (and to a lesser extent RPG) games, playing almost everything out there.

Ipad has changed my gaming life. There are so many good games that Battle of the Bulge shouldn't convince you to get an iPad - it should be Battle of the Bulge plus all the other great games out there (and I can't stop playing a non-strategy game called New Star Soccer btw). Yah they are generally simpler than PC games so I still play PC games but being able to play a game on the toilet, in bed while my wife watches TV, downstairs while my daughter does her homework, etc - is just amazing. Oh, and buy a sturdy case for it with something rubbery or plasticky that will protect the glass face if it's dropped - very worth it since my first ipad was smashed to pieces by a 3 foot drop onto tile.

Oh, and before I forget - if  you get an iPad - definitely(!!) get Phantom Leader. So much fun and so much value - I've played it for countless hours.

Do 1st gen iPads support IOS 5? Bulge requires IOS 5.

thanks JJ ... looked at them before but I could never really justify the cost as all she wants is a comfy way to browse. So she may get one for christmas now which means I earn lots of brownie points and get to sneak in a few wargames as well in the armchair .
