Title: Friday is here! Friday is here!
Post by: MetalDog on December 14, 2012, 06:46:21 AM
This weekend is either going to be REAL busy or...not.  No matter the schedule, I will try to find time to continue my Warlock campaign with bob.  I have the denizens of the underworld on the run and will have a veteran army to bring to the surface.  There's also a Civ IV BTS MP with some friends I would like to make time for.  And finally, I may have a chance to install and play Eador:Genesis that was gifted to me by my secret Santa, you know who you are ;-)

Once I recover from this plague, I will continue training in Rise of Flight and hookup my TrackIR. Probably play some Toy Soldiers too. And maybe start Crusader Kings II.

You have the plague?  Wow.

Parent-in-laws are squelching my me time this weekend.  However I will continue my campaign in Eador and try and advance my Balder's Gate campaign.

I'll also be watching the gog sales.

No gaming for me this weekend or next week.  The wife and I are leaving after work today to head down and visit my parents for Christmas.  This means I will be separated from my gaming computer and yes I expect the withdrawal to be severe. :)

My Tailor in WoW is still working towards getting the pattern for the 36-slot gem bag but the end is in sight. If I calculated correctly, he will be eligible for the final quest on Monday. Besides him, two of my miners (one Alliance and one Horde) need to mine some Ghost Iron ore for two of my mages (one Alliance and one Horde) to transmute. My World of WarCraft subscription expires December 23rd and right now I am debating on whether to renew it or not--WoW has gotten to be too much like work to suit me.

I will also be playing a few random games, perhaps a bit of Warlock: Master of the Arcane, Eador: Genesis, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and I'm not sure what else. I bought a bundle of games that was a special offered by GOG.com and I may do a little retro gaming.

Or I may even download my free Fallen Enchantress and take it for a spin around the block. I'm just not sure of what I will end up doing this weekend.

Don't know what I'll be playing this weekend but for today, one word..... The Hobbit. OK So that's actually 2 words. Anyway, back to Middle-Earth for me.

Inbetween packing fer our long trek to the Keys, I'll be playing Battle of the Bulge iOS. Great fun little game. Very slick. I'll try to post a mini review in the mobile games section. This game and Phantom Leader are getting all the love on my iPad.

No gaming for me this weekend either.  I work both tonight & tomorrow night; when I get off Sunday morning, I immediately head down to Winona and La Crosse for early Christmas get-togethers (and hopefully a screening of The Hobbit somewhere in there).

Watching for the dirt cheap sale onslaught on Steam.  Today - Friday - perhaps??

Eador: Genesis, Torchlight II, King of Dragon Pass, and a plethora of other stuff I probably can't concentrate on more than an hour or so at a time.

Wow... talk about last minute.

Didn't they have it running for more than a week before the 25th last year?  And the downloads speeds were regularly dead & stopping due to the traffic even then.

I seem to have come down with the plague, which ruined my plans of starting the weekend with a midnight screening of the Hobbit. Going to spend the rest of today (and most of this weekend) splitting my time between Crusader Kings 2, Skyrim, and X-Com. Plague or no plague I am going to have to go into the office tomorrow and work for a few hours to finish and project that's due out Monday. Other then that should be able to devote most of my free time to gaming.

My life doesn't suck right now, on Xmas standdown and few obligations on the horizon.

I just restarted a new playthrough of Skyrim, so I'll be slowly working my way through that again.  What an amazing game.  I'm trying to stick to just one or two storylines and pay closer attention to the plot.

I will also be playing just a crapload of other games: War of the Roses, Chivalry, Iron Front, STALKER, and I might even hook up the HOTAS to get back into RoF and IL-2 just for giggles.

Really, the only thing slowing me down is the surf we've got going on today through this weekend.  It's going to be an exhausting time, for sure!

Re-playing Mass Effect 2 right now, prepping for a first run through ME3. I may also get some Alan Wake in over the weekend, and some more Talisman Prologue. It isn't bad, but I really hope they carry through with adding the expansions and multi player...frankly, with the size of that game on the table with both the existing corner board expansions, an electronic alternative would be a blessing.  ;D

Played a few turns of Eador.  One of my heroe's armies got beat down by a couple of minotaurs.  The other one is going about his merry way slowing exploring territory without a care in the world outside an occassional orc or five.

LOL, well it's not all roses and honey.

FWIW, I must have picked up Gus's plague through the internet or something because sometime yesterday afternoon I just started feeling shitty and by evening I was all achey with a fever.  It was a real bummer too, as I had a fridge full of beer and a full night of gaming lined up.  But, instead, I was in bed by 8:45!  LAME!

I feel better this morning, though.   ;)

So far, all I gamed was Red Orchestra 2, which wasn't even on my list...

That's the great thing about Steam.  You can check your friends list and see if anyone is on.  If they are, send them a quick message.  Besides, I have found that most peoples tolerance for one sitting is usually an hour or two max.  So, be adventuresome!

Stuck at work all weekend.  Plant's running like shit and it's snowing like a mutha out there.  Not looking forward to the drive home.  Vancouver has got to be the worst city in Canada when it comes to idiots with no idea how to drive in snow.  Can't wait for the cavalcade of Koreans in their SUVs and rednecks in their pickups lining the ditch where they've just spun out.  I counted 22 on an 11km stretch last year.

Man, I just want to go home and play the new Iron Front DLC.

Pretty good, actually. As with the first time, some of the characters are more interesting than others, though I always have time for Grunt.  ;D "Everyone here wants to fight, but they don't. That's stupid. These people are stupid. Just kill each other and get it over with! Stupid."

Funny thing about OOTP and FM - I love the idea of the games, but I'm not sure I have the attention to detail (or the knowledge really) to play them well...though I do like playing them.

But what I mean is I fall down with substitutes and transfers - because I don't think I have the "staying power" to deal with all those stats - even though they are core to the game!

The issue with OOTP is that they always release after opening day.  I'd rather see an earlier release and a later patch to adjust teams to correct the rosters.

There is one hockey game availible at gamersgate, which I've considered picking up.  It's the only one I've ever seen but it was made a number of years ago so not sure how well it plays.  http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-IHM/icehockey-club-manager-2005  I cannot believe honestly that there are not more football or hockey text manager games.

It's funny.  We always do these threads and I think I have a good idea of what I'm going to play but inevitably I end up playing things I didn't anticipate.

I probably logged 4 hours of Red Orchestra 2 this weekend, and it didn't even cross my radar in my initial post.

I see that OOTP 13 is on sale Half Off right now (off-season sale), so obviously they're trying to snatch up the extra sales before a new season gets rollin'.

In the meantime, I'll be happy tinkering with my Football (american) ones while waiting.  I probably shouldn't drop a score on last season's OOTP version when I can get the new one before long, anyway.  Even if it will cost more.   Because after that I wouldn't even use the oldie.

Perhaps we can get a career league going sometime in the future, hereabouts?

No kidding!  While  the handful out there right now aren't terrible, one is pretty damn old (and buggy, with sometimes incapable AI managers!), another is an unfinished work-in-progress, and the most basic one doesn't have as much depth as I'd like to see (although it has the best in-game strategy system).

The thing with american football is that it's game plans are very strategy-oriented and I don't think that part of the game has been given enough detail in previous iterations.  While roster management is always the big focus of these manager sims,  the NFL-style ones should also have more in-game management depth due to having far fewer games per season compared to others like baseball (which many people usually just insta-sim out right?).

In my opinion not as polished as it could be, but might fill the void for you until OOTP releases their version.  One nice little feature is that you can start the league from anypoint of 1980 and forward I believe.

Actually, it shouldn't give you too much trouble. You're used to minor league management if you've played OOTP. And the big piece of hockey is player development and roster management, as opposed to play calling and the like.

Spent a few hours last night playing Alan Wake. Holy crap is that game good. A bit creepy, too. Lots of Memento style time shifts and mind screwage to where I have no idea what is actually 'real'.

I suppose I ought to post this in the other sub-forum, but a couple friends & I ended up playing a little D&D (3.5 of course).  Watching The Hobbit inspired us.  :D

Sorry to hear that bud.  Here's hoping you get a decent replacement soon!

I wish they'd work on an American Football game!

Good news!

After doing lots of digging, I've found out that Grey Dog Software is in the process of creating an American Pro Football management sim (with career mode!).

I've been doing a lot of work with the company and trying to improve some marketing venues. However, I have still been developing the pro game and will provide updates as I get closer to Beta.

They/he previously created a college football manager sim named Bowl Bound around 2006, evidentally, and looking at the screenshots it seemed rather deep, look pretty good for a text sim, and have a "career mode" to it.  I'm gonna check out the demo of the old college one and see if it's another that I'd get hooked on, until he kicks out the new NFL one.  8)

I think this has been crawling along for years so I can't get too excited until much more concrete news comes along from him.  I am certainly pulling for him, but seems like his support drops off after short periods of time.  He had a starting point with his previous pro football game, but didn't really evolve it and his college football game had an excellent starting point but was pretty much abandoned.  If he would just keep with the base game and evolve it, then I would be more excited.  I hope I am proven wrong and something comes out at some point, but I will be a skeptic until I start seeing some real life actual progress shown by him.

I'm not even into baseball much, but the text sports manager games are addictive.   I would also consider a hockey one, but I have no idea if there are any decent ones with a Career Mode.

Actually, some of the old OOTP guys are apparently working on a hockey one. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/fhm-general-discussions/

Looks like they're in to Beta testing.

In case anybody missed the initial feature list from their newsletter.

Good to know.  I wasn't familiar with his previous stuff.

just bought his latest release, TEW2013, also have his wmma3 game. i believe he got his start making his wrestling games and that is his bread and butter. his other recent release was the comic book game. support for the two games i own has been stellar. i believe a football game would be more complex than his wrestling and fighting games which is probably why development stopped or bogged down. better to not do a game at all than just sleepwalk through one for the heck of it.

Although the same company, the developers for past/future football titles is different than the wrestling and comic book games.

ahh i see arlie rahn is the one that was doing the college game. he also helped out adam on his recent release. think its just two guys that actuallywrite and develop of course they have additional help for graphics and such. the other guy listed in the credits is scott vibert but he helped me in getting my license reset for wmma3 so probably just handles billing and stuff. still not a large operation. would love to see something that simulates being a gm on the pro football side of things. if i want actual gameplay i will stick with SAT though.

I agree I would love to see another good gm football product....however, for playing seasons, I much prefer ActionPC Football over SAT :)
