Sweet! Downloading demo. Something tells me I might like this one a bit better than Iron Sky... ;D

I still prefer Din's Curse over this one.

While I was pretty excited to see the subject, I've not been able to get into it's implementation very much.

It's missing something, IMO;  an extra facet of some kind.

Totally agree with you here Nef, it's got all the right ingredients, but theres something not right in the mix.

It's been a few months since I played, but I was positively salivating over the game, given the feature list. My thirst for the title ebbed pretty quickly. Which is a shame, because I adore a lot of the Soldak titles, they always seem to be pushing the envelope, taking existing genres, and making them more interesting.

Perhaps after the game settles in and is tweaked around  a bit, I'll give it another go, and see if I can fathom just why it's not hitting the right spot.

I tried the demo and couldn't get excited at all.  It's yet another rehash of Soldak's formula, only this time in space.  I already own the excellent Depths of Peril which is almost exactly the same game, so I can't get into this one.

It's time Soldak started being original again.

I'm not minding the demo. From doing a bit of reading on various forums, it sounds like the full game adds A LOT to the mix, too. Hmmmm...certainly something I'd consider picking up. Post Christmas sales.  8)

A helpful link was being bandied about on another forum

I'll have a delve into the info and see if there isn't a gem in this game after all. Apparently, it starts really slowly, and hasn't got a lot of interesting choices until you start to push up the levels a bit.

I think my biggest grip is that there's not really any good exploration.  At least with Din's Curse there were dungeon levels, and you got to wander around into the unknown, and there was a relative variety to it.  In Drox Operative,  there's not really any varied terrain as in such dungeon crawlers.  Every system is just the same circular size with some planets and items strewn about them and it becomes just a matter of mowing the FOW lawn.

I haven't been able to get into the faction relations part much because it's just so formulaic.  Do quests for said faction, give them some gifts, mehh.  Rinse & repeat each game.

I was also probably looking at something more like Space Rangers 2 or an ARPG style of Freelancer and it's just not that kind of game.  I can still have fun in short bits, though, so it's not a total wash.  Perhaps after a long period of time, it'll become more habit forming?
