Well let's take stock of how pathetic my gaming existence was in 2012. To be fair to me, I was beta testing two games, and also addicted to World of Tanks.
As I was thinking about which games to purchase for myself for Christmas, I realized that in late 2011 and all of 2012, I purchased the following, and have yet to really play them seriously:
Gary Grigsby's War Between the States
Gary Grigsby's War in the East
Gary Grigsby's World at War: A War Divided
War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition
Panzer Corps
Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue
Advanced Tactics Gold
Making History Gold
Europa Universalis III
The Drift 1879
Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem
Unity of Command
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Those alone are enough gaming to last me two lifetimes(Well, technically WitP:AE is enough for two lifetimes, but I digress)!
Now then, back to thinking about which games to buy myself for Christmas this year! ;D
You didn't really think I wasn't going to buy myself a couple, did you?
I've actually done a pretty decent job of hacking through my backlog this year. Only a few left that I haven't gotten to...and that certainly wasn't the case at the start of this year. :o
I love it when this topic comes up! It reminds me of how not alone I am. I have a lot of games that I have never played but hope to get around to. Oh well, off to check out that Steam sale. I need more games!

If I start with WitP:AE, I would never make it to game number two. I had better pick a different one. :)
Have you ever been checking-out a game that looks great to you and then realize, hell, I already got that game? I just haven't played it in so long that I forgot it's name.

But really, one of my protocols is that if I get around 25 hours out of a game, I'll regard that as a good enough return for investment and count it as "finished" if I want to move on.
Which is no doubt how I'll treat my copy of WitPAE. (And WitE. And Warplan Orange for that matter.)
I haven't touched my copies of WitP or WitP: AE. I bought and installed them, and there just sitting there collecting dust. I've tried to play them a couple of times, and I always do the same thing. Start game, browse around the map and try and form a plan, realize I have no clue what to do, quit and go play something else.

I'm the same way. Best investment for me in the last 5 years has been Skyrim, 295 hours played in the last year. Where my copies of WitP and WitP: AE have both sat almost untouched since the day I got them, 2-3+ years ago.
Beside the WitP games, the only two I've have I haven't really played is SotS2 and EU3. SOTS2 I've put a little time into but not to the point, yet, where I feel I got a return on my investment. EU3 probably won't be played at all with EU4 set for release next year sometime.

Ditto. I buy them for the... cachet of having them. Or something like that.

I hope by then I'll have worked through a Great Invasions campaign and then (with some judicious ruler creation) carrying some of those results through a CK2 campaign.
But even then, I may strongly consider EU3 instead, since it's likely to be much more stable and patched than EU4 for a long time, based on prior experience.
Well, I ended up deciding that I needed a palate cleanser from wargames, so I purchased my first three games from GOG: Port Royale, Ice Wind Dale complete and Fallout 2. I'm starting out with Ice Wind Dale, and I must say it feels good to be back in a D&D world again. I haven't played an RPG since I stopped playing World of Warcraft about four years ago.
I think I can safely say I have begun to play all the games on my HD however, finishing them is an entirely other story :)
Have several where the download took an hour, install ten minutes, played for a half hour, then removed.
