Title: Borderlands 2 single player?
Post by: Grim.Reaper on December 22, 2012, 05:44:34 PM
Anybody play this game as single player versus online?  Is it worth it if I only intend to play this way?

It's a fun game both solo and mp.

I've played it almost exclusively single player, and it's a lot of fun.

But I'd suggest waiting. The last day of Steam sales is always a repeat of the biggest sellers in the previous days, and Borderlands 2 did huge sales numbers when it was on sale. Save yourself $15 and wait.

I can get right now for $24....do you think it will even be cheaper?

In single player mode, do you completely fight solo or do any of the other AI characters team up with you?

Just take the soldier dude - he has an automated turret he can toss out to blast baddies while you run & hide in cover.  :)

Oh.. and activate the background audio recording in his inventory when you do.  LOL!

Possibly.

I started off playing as Zero and absolutely hated it, started over and went with the Commando. He isn't REALLY a Ninja, and if you try playing that way you will get your ass kicked. A lot.

If you spec as a sniper he's actually pretty decent.  However you'll be sucking in the self healing department.  Lots of running and gunning to avoid being cornered.

My first character was a sniper and it at times was a painful slog until you get that next gun upgrade.  I think the commando or the gunzilla (I don't remember the actual name) dudes are the easiest for soloing.

Do we have to do some separate sign-up or does BL2 use our Steam accounts for friend invites, as it looks.

Someone said told me my account name wasn't "linked" or some such, and the invite got kicked back.  But I didn't see anything on the main menu about logging in to a second account (as I see with Torchlight 2).

Edit:  I went with the commando because of the turret, and he has some Beefcake skills to help buff up shields/health.

IIRC your friends are based on your Steam friends list.  That's how I play with my brother.

Sent you a friend invite on Steam for some future Torchlight 2 or BL2 gaming.

The thing to remember with Borderlands 2 is the more people in your group the better the weapons that drop.  Of course, the baddies are also more badass.

The group loot & difficulty thing is pretty standard for ARPG multiplayer.  I'm pretty sure it's the same for Torchlight 2, also.

Yes it is.  It's pretty noticably different loot tables though in BL2.

Borderlands 2 is currently On Sale for $14.99 at Gamersgate.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BL2/borderlands-2

This may be another GG price screwup, as that's the cheapest I've seen it this season IIRC.  So grab it if you planned to this holiday season.

Darn it, should have waited:(  Tried going to gamersgate but says down for maintenance.

I read on another forum that BL2 was potentially another GG mistake and they also mentioned that Ghost Recon Future Soldier was also something crazy like a couple of dollars....why can't I ever discover these mistakes in time:)

I figured it was another mistake, and when I saw it (the usual time they post new stuff), their servers were getting hammered enough to pretty much shut them down.
