"IL-2 Sturmovik
We also had an important event occur in this year. Our company has been entrusted with the development of the famous IL-2 Sturmovik series which is devoted to the events of World War II. We are very proud of this opportunity and we hope to succeed in this endeavor. For more information please visit the official site of the new Sturmovik project (www.il2sturmovik.net). We invite you to register on the new official forum of IL-2 (http://forum.il2sturmovik.net) and share your opinions about this new product and your love for WWII flight-sims.
As is our tradition, in February 2013 we will announce plans for the next year for Rise of Flight. Our team thanks all those who supported us in the past year, with continued support and attention our mission will continue!
I read that. Hopefully it means the next iteration (IL2:Stalingrad?) will be ready to eat right out of the box instead of requiring additional baking like Cliffs of Dover did.
Hope they make an immersive campaign this time.
On a related note....I don't know if anyone here is still firing up IL-2, but the latest patches make this a very different game. I tend to play a lot of quick missions, and the enhancements to the AI are very interesting. My old "standard" mission was me versus 3 average pilots in planes of same year. Although some planes do suffer from marked performance differences (ie: twin engine vs single engine, and some of the under-gunned Italian and Russian stuff) I was USUALLY able to hold my old in these 1 vs 3 duels. Not so with the latest patch. The AI is doing some very interesting stuff (they used to rely on the old "rope a dope" tactic), and the AI pilots even make a few genuine mistakes (I've even seen a couple go into spins...something I don't recall seeing before).
In any case...still glad to see this venerable WWII sim has got very stable legs and positive future.
Are the patches on Steam?
I know Cliffs of Dover is on Steam, but I don't think IL-2 1946 is/was. The latest patch info is here: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/forumdisplay.php?f=202
Its been a while since I messed with IL-2 1946, so I'm not sure if the latest patch is comprehensive or if you'll need to load lesser patches first....
I had been playing Vanilla and enjoying it.. but then I patched it up to the latest and installed Ultrapack.. wow what a difference.. Track IR now allowed me to move forward and pivot side to side... Also Graphics sooo much better!
