I'd just like it noted for the record that here at Grogheads, we have had some highly stimulating, highly intellectual, highly impassioned debate over a variety of diverse issues that bring out the emotion in many of us. The overwhelming majority of these conversations have been cordial, polite, respectful, educational and thought provoking.
Whatever you guys are doing, please keep doing it and this place will continue to be great.
S/F
Sound off.
Plus we have lots and lots of boob threads which seem to keep aggression in check.
You know...I haven't even visited the boobie threads yet. But along with JH I'll say: well done everyone!
Seconded (or I suppose it's "fourthed", at this point)!
I've been having a blast here since GH was established. To blatantly steal Gus' sig, this is exactly what WG used to be like...and I'm mightily glad to be here!
Agreed - this is a fantastic place - its just a pity that there are so many non-boobie related threads taking up space......
Great work - keep it going guys ;D
Thank you guys for doing this forum, it made me post again.
Well said, Jarhead. Well said. ;D
"Caaannnn yooouuuu feeeelllll the looovvveeee tonight" (done in my best Sir Elton voice...which is pretty awful).
Seriously, this site is so far beyond where I would have guessed it would be at this point. Awesome. Kudos everyone, drinks are on....SoM
(you thought I was gonna say me???)
Thanks for giving us a place to desecrate with our presence. :D
alrighty boys... at the 1 month mark, we have
113 members
... including 27 lurkers
over 8000 posts ...
... in over 400 topics
a heavy-duty religious argument
extended threads on several computer games
discussions of the 'old' board gaming faves
the start of at least 1 play-by-post RPG
a 'new' board for designing/making your own games
a half-dozen or so 'babe' boards
waaaaaay too much cathartic babbling about someone who's not even here
an empty front page(!)**
oh, and Windi still preaching the global warming gospel
** we're working on it! should be some stuff up very soonly :)
Has this place been publicly announce yet or are we still keeping it on the DL. Once it is public I've got a couple people I want to invite over.

It's been inadvertently leaked once already by Eyebiter:

And then a 'controlled leak' per LB by Yours Truly:

The Official Launch is still TBA.
+1with Stagger.
It's not a secret, but we're not officially launched yet.
Invite you friends. We just aren't quite ready to tell all the game companies that we're ready for business.

We could play scrabble: Invite, you finders!
Poking around I have seen some pretty civil discourse here, disagreements of course but that is why we are all not clones of each other.
Question having seen how things degenerated at the wargamer site driven by a few who were uber zealous in their views and or political affiliation has there been any though given on how to handle similar situations here?
My bottom line is that I enjoy a good discussion and point counter point as the next guy but as you gain more members you will invariably attract those who wish to express their viewpoints (sometimes too forcefully or to often) to the detriment of the more silent masses?
However congrats to everyone who so far have kept the discussions interesting and lively without flaming anyone

Yes. Right now we've got a great group of guys - most of us have known each other for some time from over at WG.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the perspective, I suppose) I left Wargamer about 18 months ago. While I am far from perfect as a mod/admin, it's my understanding that most of the problems degenerated after I left, and were largely a combination of the mods not being empowered to take action and general lack of attention from the management.
To that end the organization here is very flat. The guys that run the site on a day-to-day basis are the ones empowered to make decisions regarding any problems that might crop up.
BayonetBrant, Gusington, Son_of_Montfort, SteelGrave, Jarhead, and I are the go-to guys if there's a problem.
Even with that many mods we may not see every post, nor may we at first see it in the same light as someone else. If you see something objectionable or offensive, do not hesitate to bring it to our attention.
We want GrogHeads to be a safe, fun place to hang out and we will work to ensure that flame wars are kept under control.
The only real trouble maker is Gus - and LB keeps him medicated !
So how was your trip?
Welcome con! Want some medicine?

Not bad – a few little glitches. Like transferring to the shuttles at the Ft. Lauderdale airport seemed to take forever. The only real serious snag came when we had to be tendered in at Grand Cayman and they ended up with people stuck on the stair ways in the ship for close to 2 hours. About half missed their excursions. It wasn't pretty – people screaming at one another, etc... Probably wouldn't ever do Carnival again – shitty organization. Most of the staff were great and the 24 hr ice cream and pizza was a big draw for Mig's Jr.
We didn't get into Costa Maya as the water was too rough – 8ft seas. So there were no ruins to see. Roatan was nice – the snorkeling wasn't bad (not as good as Cozumel). The security in Cozumel was very heavy – saw one Hummer with well armed troops and two converted pick-ups with 5 soldiers each in full cam and balaclavas. The troops in the first truck had full-length old school looking variants of M-16's and the soldiers in the 2nd truck had H&K G3's with 40mm grenade launchers underneath and a pintle-mounted version of the G3 over the cab with a belt of ammo. Wild !!!
Overall a good time was had by all !
Any pics???
I have some pics I need to sort thru. I didn't get any of the soldiers unfortunately as I was carrying Mrs. Migs' shopping bags done the street.
Wooo-tschhh! <sound of a pussy-whip> :)
No two ways around it it ! I've been trained ;)
Me too.... :(
Lupercal! Keep keeping it real boyz, dis is no place for choppa's.
