Game is ~7.50 on Steam right now. Reviews are mixed. Some people hate it, some say its serviceable. Anyone here play it? Thanks.
Played it in the PS3 and lost interest. It's got poor camera angles.
HA well that's a new one. I may pass and just delve deeper into Skyrim.
Skyrim?! Pffft!
Poleaxes at dawn!
What time you around tonight?
Should be available after about 7:30 your time.
Poleaxes?
Yeah! (actually, I don't have a pole axe yet, just a bardiche and a billhook.)

Damn. The guy in the front looks very injured. I have a meeting tonight until 7:30pm your time. I'll see where you're at afterwards.
Having trouble keeping up - is that War of the Roses?
Nope. It's Chivalry.
Ack. Yet another game I'm going to have to get, I'm afraid.
Get it and join us! Of course I still have to train first. And I guess the original intent of this thread is now dead.
^I've got it.
Like it?
Which do you like better, Jarhead (Chiv or WotR)?

Haven't tried WotR yet...maybe this weekend if I get a chance? Chivalry is fun, but so far have only played against bots.
If we could get a small group of 4-5 together this game looks to be tons of fun.
I bought them both on sale. WOR has a lot more customization options and more depth when it comes to levelling and designing the type of character you want to play, but I just find Chivalry to be more fun. The maps in Chivalry have multiple, staged objectives whereas WOR is limited to just capturing control points. I played one chivalry map where my team had to burn out some fields that archers could hide in, then push a petard up to a castle gate, the breach the gate, get inside and kill the other team's king. Lots of fun. I also find the melee in Chivalry a lot more visceral and satisfying than WOR's. Nothing like lopping someone's head off and kicking it down the stairs.
(the decapitation cam is kind of funny when it happens to you, too. I get kind of dizzy watching the world spin around me as my melon tumbles down a hill).
Definitely sounds like fun. Maybe not so much the getting decapitated part, but yeah.
;D
Speaking of fun..

You should definitely pick it up if Steam or GG has it on sale again. I'm having a blast with it despite the fact that I am absolutely terrible at it.
As Toonces has pointed out in other threads, it does have some flaws. Since I've been singing the game's praises so far, I should probably look at some of the shortcomings.
There's not a lot in the way of customization. Apparently, you eventually get the ability to choose from various helmet types. I haven't reached that level yet though, so I can't say. And that's pretty much it. Other than the weapon you carry, there's no way to distinguish you from anyone else with the same character class on your team.
There are only 4 character classes:
1) Archer. (Missile combat is definitely the weakest part of the game. Everyone hates archers. They are more of a threat to their own team than they are to the enemy. Most people who play archers are just plain bad people. They have an uncanny ability to plant a shaft in the back of your skull a micro-second before you land a killing blow. They also like to stand in the middle of a corridor to snipe, especially if the corridor is the only one leading out of the spawn zone so nobody can get past them).
2) Man-at-arms. (light infantry. They're fast, they can dodge, and they have a shield they can shield rush with. I can't play this class at all.)
3) Vanguard. (assault infantry. Medium armour, no shield. Two handed weapons with good reach, massive damage, but slow recovery after a swing. Dangerous but if you get inside their weapon's reach, they're dead meat. I usually play this class.)
4) Knight. (Heavy infantry. Good defence with heavy armour and a shield. Can switch out to a two handed weapon. They don't do as much damage as the vanguard but can take more of a beating. Slow moving but faster weapons.)
Each class gets three weapons, one from each of the following classes: main weapon; secondary weapon; missile or special weapon.
Each class has different choices for each class of weapon. For example, I usually play as a vanguard class.
The main weapon choices for the vanguard are: spear, greatsword, or pole arm.
Secondary weapons choices are: short sword or war axe
Missile weapons are : throwing axes, throwing knives, or smoke pot.
The main and secondary weapons each have three tiers, unlocked by getting kills with a weapon. For example, if you choose two-handed swords as your main weapon as a vanguard, you start with a greatsword. Then you progress to a claymore, and finally to a zwei-hander.
Progression is quite rapid. I've only been playing for a few days and I've already unlocked all three swords, 2 of the three pole-arms, and the 2nd tier war axe.
The game could do more to promote teamwork. As it stands now, much of the game devolves into individual combats. I just got out of a game with Nefaro. Our team was doing nothing to achieve the objectives. Everyone was just out to get kills so nobody except me and one other guy were trying to complete the objectives. As you might expect, each time we tried, we were cut down almost immediately as we had no support.
IDing other players can be difficult. You have to get quite close and hover your cursor over them. As there is almost no character customization, it can be hard to find your buddies. There's also no in-game chat so you have to go through TS of Steam VOIP if you want to play as a group.
Friendly fire is bloody deadly in this game. When you melee, you have three basic attacks. A side slash, a thrust, or an overhand chop. (you can also charge and chain up combos). Most guys seem to favour wild side slashes and in a close melee, you can expect to get a a lot of friendly whacks in the back. In my last game, I died 11 times. 5 of those were from friendly fire.
Finally, you don't really get a lot of feedback while in-game. You have to open up a sub-menu to see how much time you've got left to reach your objective. There's also no way to check your overall stats. You do get levels (I'm now level 6) but there's no information I can find as to what exactly this means if anything.
Cool. Thanks, SDR.
Yeah, it does seem a little sparse. Fun for some quick multiplayer hackery I suppose.
The friendly-fire is definitely a regularity. Even being careful, you're gonna end up hitting a friendly at times.
Unfortunately, all the Unreal-engined games can still make me a bit queasy even after cranking up the FOV. I can stomach it longer than those with low-FOV, however, but I can see that I'll be limited to doing a couple-three matches before having to exit out for a bit. :-[ My days of first- and third-person gaming looks to be numbered if everyone's using the Unreal engine.
From what I could see of your score in the game we were both in, it looks like you were doing very well. I think you had 9 kills and 6 deaths last time I saw.
As for control in a group melee, you can greatly limit the chances of killing guys on your own side by using thrusts and kicks and avoiding the big slash attacks. Not that it matters because some mouth breather playing an archer on your side will still insist on firing straight into the melee and killing you anyway. Stupid archers....
BTW, quick tip for fun. If you see one of your archers up on a wall, sniping away from the merlons, running up behind him and punting him for a field goal is an immensely satisfying experience. He may spaz out and try to vote kick you, but a quick explanation that you were merely archer punting will sway the vote in your favour.
New content coming in January.
Duel mode. Both combatants agree to enter a duel. This prevents other from dog piling and back stabbing. (back stabbing is how I get the few kills I do manage per round. Booo!)
New map with capture the flag mode. (Lame. I want more maps where the objective is to cut down filthy peasants or launch diseased corpses into the castle.)
And the big one, new weapons. The flail and the pole hammer. Flail looks awesome!

Yeah.. I really didn't do too bad. Those were my very first two matches, and I somehow managed to get 11 kills in the first one (to 8 or 9 deaths) IIRC. So I started off pretty well, using the Man-At-Arms class. Probably because they are the fastest hitters with the mace/club.

I generally prefer to use a thrust when striking, especially near friendlies, as it feels like a faster, more accurate strike that can get the jump on someone attempting to close with you. Dodging feels like crap and rarely even works for me when I try to dodge backwards/sideways to get some room; not sure if that's a game, lag, or user issue. I've tried to finesse it some, but have had mixed results as a fast & hard onslaught seems to be the best approach in many cases. *shrug*

LOL! Poor archers.
Alas, I think half my deaths in those games were to enemy archers. They can be downright deadly if you don't weave & bob - and sometimes even that doesn't save you!.
I'm not sure what to think of the map modes yet. I've not played enough to get an idea, but thus far I've been pretty MEH. It sounds like some of them are pretty good but that 'Burn The Fields' scenario just ended up with both teams hacking & respawning in the middle of it for the most part.
I still need to try out the other classes, too. The only one I'm not terribly excited about trying is the Knight class just because their shield tends to block so much of my vision that it is hard to see when, exactly, I should be hitting RMB to block with it (not being able to see my enemy's weapon being swung in his right hand). So I regularly find myself flailing shield block blindly, and actually doing worse than just parrying with a weapon instead. :-[ I suppose they use a two-handed sword anyway, so if nothing else I can just not bother using the shield with him.
EDIT: Question!--
Is there a feature where you can see in which games your Steam or Chivalry buddies are playing? I just happened to get very lucky in choosing the server you were playing on, SDR. It was random chance. :o
I'm not sure about but I think you have to manually add each person to your "friends" tab in-game if you want to find and join them.
Yes, the objective map modes are a lot of fun provided the teams actually try to complete the objectives. On the public servers it often seems like everyone just ignores the missions and tries to slaughter one another instead.
Got eight kills with one blow today! (granted, the blow came from a catapult I was manning and three of the eight were on my team, but they were just archers so they don't count.)
Bollocks! Back-stabbing is how battles are won!!! It's called strategy.
Fun tip: You can regenerate your health. Just move back and crouch for a long time.
Just like WotR. Archers don't really help the cause (especially if you're on the attacking side). So I despise them. I get so much pleasure from whacking them every time.
I say we form The Society for the Advancement of Archer Punting and get competitions going to see who can kick one the furthest. Bonus if you can impale them on the redbouts below.
I really am just not enjoying Chivalry at all. I wish I had FRAPS set up so I could have shot some video of Chivalry gameplay tonight compared to War of the Roses gameplay just previous. The gameplay is so different.

You've kinda struggled with both of these titles. I remember you being a bit turned off by War of the Roses back in the beta.
Different stokes. I'm just the opposite. I am having a blast playing Chivalry but I find playing War of the Roses to be a grind. I like designing my own character types and trying them out in battle, I just don't find the gameplay itself very fun at all. I really, really dislike the teleporting spawn next to squad leader feature.
I feel that they fixed a lot of the issues I had with the beta, especially the levelling. I mean, I have 20 hours in and more gold than I can possibly spend so you get to start customizing pretty quickly.
I get what you're saying about the squad spawn SDR, but I don't find it the game killer you do. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets patched out eventually, though. A lot of folks complain about it.
Wotr is good and it involves a lot of thinking. But not a lot of players think so it gets frustrating. chivalry focuses more on fighting and the system is quite elegant. This must be the reason why chivalry is more popular as most people would just want to go and fight.

I voted for it.
I may have to check out the Archer class next.
I mean.. how hard is it to only fire at distant enemies and relocate if the dogfight gets too close, anyway?
Them's puntin' words.
I bought Chivalry a week ago, got it on Steam for $12.50. A day later I bought War of the Roses. At first I didn't like WOTR as well, but after much practice on the London Tournament field I'm getting the hang of it. I still prefer Chivalry a little bit over WOTR. Also I enjoy the archer in WOTR, but not in Chivalry. I think the WOTR controls for the archer suit my style much better. Chivalry seems to have a little more action going on on the servers too. I also think the combat in Chivalry is more visceral and enjoyable than WOTR. IMHO the camera works better in Chivalry too.
I usually prefer the Knight with the LongSword in Chivalry, but I'm now experimenting with the Man-of-Arms as well. I've played quite a few matches online, mostly in the arena or the ruins. I'm getting much better in the online matches, but still have never placed better than 3rd (of eight players so far). I've got to say, that I'm having more fun with these two games than anything I've played in a long time!
Not to hijack this thread, but in the online MP mode I also picked up M&B Napoleonic Wars on steam for $4.99. Any of you guys have much experience with this one?

I couldn't help but make some comparisons to Mount & Blade Napoleonic. And I enjoyed playing Napoleonic much more, in comparison, despite rarely having full populations in the few servers that had the game modes I most wanted to play. I believe part of the reason is that the match sizes were much larger in Napoleonic, as having 64-player multiplayer matches weren't unheard of IIRC. Plus there were mounted troops, artillery, etc. My experience with Chivalry thus far has been spawn-run forward-kill until death-respawn-rinse-repeat. Doesn't really grab me with anything interesting.
Now that you've brought it up, maybe I should spend the time tracking down the updates and jumping back into M&B Napoleonic Wars.

From the Steam store:
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (http://store.steampowered.com/app/219640/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1) - 50% off - $12.49
War of the Roses (http://store.steampowered.com/app/42160/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1) - 25% off - $22.49
Age of Chivalry (http://store.steampowered.com/app/17510/?snr=1_7_suggest__13) - Free - A total conversion for Half-Life 2 from Team Chivalry that requires you to own a Source engine game (http://store.steampowered.com/search/?category2=16) to play.
So are you guys saying that Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is the best of the three? They all look similar to me and I'm not really into that type of game, but I might bite if it means we will be playing it together.
Some people are saying Chivalry Medieval Warfare is the best of the three. I don't agree, but to each their own.
However, I got a good taste of the squad spawn thing in WotR last night...must have been karma for what I said on page 3. What a complete bummer that was. Every single fight ended up 4v1 because every time I killed a couple of guys they'd respawn again on one of the other squadmates. Very frustrating.

Squad spawning can make or break a game. If your teammates are smart enough to time their spawns and know where to spawn (leader or base), things will be less frustrating.
I usually ride a horse and capture areas and not really do a lot of fighting in WotR to keep most players who love fighting off-balanced.
OK. I used some of my Christmas Steam gift card to buy Chivalry. Now who's playing?

Really torn on this one...only have a couple hours to decide....I am mostly a single player person and I know it only has a limited bot mode for single players...although since I am usually bad with these games, even the bots probably would kill me:)
Chivalry - - How do you change your class while in-game? Or do you have to wait until end of match or quit and re-join to change your class?
Bring up the menu with the TAB key, then press either M or N. I can't remember which. You also may have to press the B key prior to the M or N key.
Press M to change class.
Thanks guys.
After my first two games of doing a passable job, I've been getting slaughtered. Looks like my beginner's luck is over.
Another question: Do any of you guys use 3rd Person view ('L' key)? I'm finding that the most difficult obstacle, in a melee, is trying to quickly find out where the my potential target went after the initial run-in and ensuing circle strafe crap. By the time I get turned and start-up a swing with a slow weapon (most of them), the guy has already hit me and I'm 'staggered', in a stupor, so as to be ineffective while he pummels me dead once or twice more. So that first spin-around is generally the make or break of it.
I tried a little archer but just plain suck at it. I had more kills with my dagger than my crossbow - and especially the bow, when I tried that one. Mostly because I was careful not to shoot too close to friendlies, at least that's the excuse I'm sticking with. Now that I know how to switch classes mid-game, perhaps I'll be able to choose a bit better depending on the map & where I'm trying to operate.
I'd say that the servers are almost too full. Been pretty tight getting into games this weekend. I'd definitely like to check out WotR sometime, just because it sounds more tactical as opposed to hackfest but I'm in no big hurry for more first-person games, this is more than enough to fill my quota.
Weren't we going to get our own game of Chivalry together?
Nefaro,
I find for me personally, using the 3rd person view works best for my situational awareness. And, after much experimentation I prefer using the two-handed longsword with no shield, it gives me a combat edge because striking someone with that particular weapon does one hell of a lot of damage. If you don't use a shield the "F" key becomes a kick instead of a shove, and that's made quite an improvement for me when trying to overcome an opponent. I usually do a block with the longsword, then quickly step forward with a kick to an opponent and then follow through with a good roundhouse with the longsword and then back again. BTW, the "P" key will also toggle your view from 1st person to half-3rd person and then full 3rd-person.
And yeah, Gus, I'm ready for a Groghead themed match in Chivalry too.
^Welcome trek! And thanks all for posting that players can play in 3rd person...I didn't know and I love playing games like this in 3rd person, especially Skyrim and the like. I find it more immersive than first person which may sound odd but well there you have it.
I find myself playing the Medium class with sword and firebomb more often. Can't hit anything on 3rd person view. Also blocking needs to be precise... must press at the right time and put the dot st the right place. I find it hard to block in 3rd person.
I just finished playing a Conquest match in WOTR. For some reason I still haven't got the hang of the controls in this game like I have in Chivalry. When I respawn, often in WOTR I take on the role of the LongBowMan and get up on a rooftop and pick off players. I got a couple of head shots last match. Also, for the first time I had enough XP to respawn as a Foot Knight. I'm going to have to practice more for WOTR I'm afraid.
Comparing the two games as far as server availability and stability, right now WOTR is more accessible and stable.
I usually use 1st person view, especially in combat. I will sometimes switch to 3rd person when I'm in a particularly crowded area as it can give you a little extra time to react to attacks from the flanks and rear.
Thanks for the tips guys.
I actually ran back to M&B Napoleonic Wars for a bit tonight to see if I, indeed, enjoy it more. And I do. Does that mean I might enjoy WotR more than Chiv? :o No matter.. I think it's the musket firing, bayoneting, cavalry riding, and cannon fire that tips it for me so the whole medieval thing probably doesn't grab me as much.
I only play M&B Napoleonic in commander mode.
You can try out WotR but it's still a brawl.
I figure that I've already got one medieval multiplayer slasher so it's enough right now.
I have actually improved a bit after using the 'P' key to switch into 3rd-person view (the second close-in one directly above the head). It's easier to turn and locate enemies circle-strafing near me, and notably easier to follow through on side-swings in order to connect in those cases.
Whomever recommended using the Long/War-sword two handed was spot on (SDR? Was that you?). After switching to that, I've found that doing a side-swing and rotating my view around, and through, an opponent is the easiest way to hit. I suppose it's a sweet spot because it seems to have a nice combination of reach, speed, and damage.
Nefaro,
That was me talking about the two-handed LongSword. Yeah, for me that weapon seems to work best since I'm old and my movements are probably slower than the younger opponents I face. Also the long reach of that sword allows you to slash your opponent when some of his weapons are out of range. Have you tried using the "F" key kick yet? You may want to experiment with mapping that move to another key that is more convenient for you to hit in the heat of battle. Another reason I use the 3rd person view besides SA is that the 1st person view in this particular game seems to make me nauseous after only a few minutes.
I think we are both suffering from the same performance issues in the game. Yesterday I was fighting pretty well, and thought I was improving. But, today I'm getting killed!
Practice! Practice! Practice!

I've used kick on occasion, but mostly against shield spammers or to kick an enemy archer off a high spot.
I've unlocked all the Longsword-War Sword chain already. The Two-handers are kinda nice too, but one tough thing to do is get used to a new weapon. Takes practice for each one, for sure.

Even with a higher FOV, the Unreal Engine seems to still make me a tad queasy for some reason. I think it's just how close the ground is displayed & it tends to give me motion sickness when I'm moving (all the time) because it just looks too close in comparison to the peripheral view when in a widescreen format, perhaps. I've completely eradicated my queasiness by changing to a 4:3 screen ratio (1280x1024 and lowered back to 100 FOV) and have no problems now. This has also worked for me in other Unreal games so whatever the problem, that fixes it.

As with many first-person shooters, it's all about timing. It can be especially painful when you're up-close and attempting to block/parry and hit someone while strafing around each other because even a halfway decent ping speed still has enough of a delay to make you miss what it looked like (on your screen) should've been a hit. It's not too bad under 100ms except when people with higher pings are playing, as is usually the case in multiplayer FPSes. It's just takes even more foresight being up close so often.

Long swords have some disadvantage.
1) You hit the wall in tight spaces. - Learn to use halberds, bills, spears. It's fun to stab them away at a distance.
2) You kill your friends as well. - Short weapons like mace and axe (short sword if you are an expert) will save the lives of your friends. You're ganging up on the enemy anyway.

I try to use a stab or an overhead swing in tight quarters like that. While the swords don't have quite the reach of polearms in a stab, they're probably the second best at it. ;)
Unfortunately, there will be lots of friendly hits either way you go. Since you can't predict where your buddies are gonna be heading next. I try not to dive into anything more than what's already a 1v1 since it just hinders your teammates. I've seen too many 1v3s end up with the solo guy winning too much due to all the friendly hits while he just moves around them.
The good thing about two-handed swords is that the entire surface is potentially lethal so, if you're playing as a vanguard, you don't have to worry about distance as much as you would had you chosen a spear or a pole-arm as your main weapon. The disadvantage is that it doesn't have as much reach and it's a little slower to recover. I'm still experimenting to see which weapon I prefer.
wow.....insanely brutal game.....I only have messed with the bot mode so far but if that is any indication of the full game, I am in trouble.....can't believe the number of limbs and heads I have lost so far:) I can't imagine living long when going up against real players.

That sounds too gruesome for me.
Man, when this game clicks with a bunch of good players, it's awesome!
I just played a few rounds on one of the NCIX Vancouver/Seattle servers. The map was the one where the Masons have to slaughter the peasants and burn their village while the Agatha tries to prevent them from succeeding. If the Masons complete their first objective, they then have to wheel a battering ram up to the castle and batter the doors down while the Agatha get to dump boiling oil on them. If the Masons succeed in smashing down the gate, they get inside and have to murder the king.
I was playing on defence with the Agatha Knights and it was a great back and forth. Almost everyone was playing well with very few friendly kills and everyone using teamwork. Despite our best efforts, we lost the village and then the gate (buggers got it down with 12 seconds left).
What I didn't know was that the player with the most points on the defending team takes over the role of the king on the final round. This time, that was me. I had to survive for 6 minutes. The baddies first two rushes died on our wall of shields so they switched to archers. They started knocking our guys down and I was forced to defend against two and three man rushes. The king moves like a slug but he's got a vicious axe. We were able to hold them off until the clock counted down and I came out with 31 kills/16 deaths. I haven't had that intense (or that fun) a time in a PC game in a long time. And I finally got to level up my spear to the 2nd tier weapon.
When are get going to get a GH battle going?

^ That, that right there. That is just what pushed me over the edge to get this game. Thanks alot SDR :P
I'm off to work now but hopefully tomorrow it will be download and I can start learning to play.
Great write-up SDR.
I've got the game and worked through the tutorial. If a bunch of folks want to get together this week, I'm good.
SDR, That's what I'm talking about with this game! You go man! Again, count me in for a GH match too! I must practice, practice, practice!
This thread also got me to purchase it:) Playing a lot of the bot stuff to get used to it. Very cool scenes and atmosphere.
Just played my first MP game. It was a complete mess with every player on the blue team just tking each other. The controls seem clunkier than when I played War of the Roses in Beta, but I like the maps better. The objective nature of the maps also suggests that I'll like this better. I sucked - 2/7, but it was still fun.
The objective maps are the best feature of the game IMO but only when both sides play with the objectives in mind. Too often, most players ignore the objectives and just go for kills so the map ends on a time out before the first objective is completed.
I think the worst maps are the team based arena capture maps. You just run forward and mill about on the big wooden platform in order to fill the occupation bar up. Too many people in such a small space means lots and lots of TKing. Thankfully the map ends within 5 minutes or so.

Despite it's very short reach, I've been having some fun with the Hammer because bringing that thing down in a well-aimed overhead swing often results in some dude's head exploding like a melon beneath it. I wonder if the second and third unlocked ones are as effective in a side swing.. ???

I don't like the Arena map either. It blows. Unfortunately, most of the Team Objective servers have that damn thing in their line-up and it's always a downer. It's basically a Team Deathmatch with 1-life per round, first to win six rounds, and all crammed into one tiny map. >:(
Arena, of course is best for free-for-all, but I've played some good team deathmatch games in it with only four or five players on each team. I also like the Ruins map, with the various levels and the expanse of water in the middle. I found a server late at night a few days ago with only one other player in the arena and we were pretty evenly matched. We went at each other for about an hour until the server crashed. In a few weeks the Chivalry devs are supposed to implement a new strictly 1-on-1 mode with no interruption and a new map or two. I'm looking forward to these types of duels.
It desperately needs more maps. That's a certain.
When can we get together for MP? And do I really need to get War of the Roses if Chivalry delivers?
:o
Damn, Gus, stop torturing yourself, you know you're going to buy WOTR! Just do it! And, you can justify it to yourself at 50% off!

If you'd ever show up when you say you're going to, we could but no! You'd rather sleep on your keyboard. Slacker....
^I'm here right now. Torturing myself.
No you're not. You're playing Skyrim. It's like, a totally different game and stuff.
^You are a cheap gaming floozy. I put in an hour each of Skyrim and M2TW waiting for you.* If you are around tomorrow night post the time! Floozy.
*OK not really waiting for you but it sounded better.

I'm here now, damn your eyes!
Tomorrow's a no-go. Damned women, making me leave the house and, you know, do stuff. It ain't right!
...
Thursday.
Pole-axe tease....
Sword floozy.
See? we were having fun but then you had to go and take it too far. This is why nobody wants to sit with you in the lunch room.
I thought it was the BO.
That's why I had you sit in the back seat while playing ROF!
And the poor bastards in the trenches still had to don their gas masks.
I am out of witty retorts.
Command Tent and I had a great session. We played the defenders on the map with the king. Good back and forth. We were able to stop the evil Masons from battering down the castle gate although it was a pretty lose run thing.
Beginner's tip. If Command Tent is on your team, it's best not to stand in front of him.....or to the side....or pretty much anywhere in his proximity. The man's a menace!
He killed me with a mace to the side of the head. He killed me with an arrow to the spine. He even killed me by dumping a cauldron of boiling oil on me. My feelings were starting to get hurt.

Yeah about that..... It looked like you needed some help so I rushed in to save the day and well yeah it didn't go so well. Thats what the King gets for sending us greenhorns into battle, armed. Then there was this nice pot of boiling oil that was just begging to be tipped over. What could I do? Its not my problem SDR tried to take a shower under it. :o ;D
Also I should mention SDR did carry our team in the last game to defend the castle. I got several kills, but not nearly as many as SDR, even if you don't count the friendly fire incidents. 8)
You can do it too. You just have to follow my patented formula. 1) Drink a beer. 2) Get a halberd. 3) Get a kill, take a swig. Soon the skulls just start piling up.

That may well be where the game shines - drunken head splattering. :D
Leveled up all the weapons but the dagger for the vanguard. Wonder which class to try next?
Medium is fun. I like to run around with a blade and fir bomb.
Chivalry is 50% off, once again, in case someone interested had missed it.

Ugh.. the Temptations.. get Chivalry or Roses (again bought Roses for my 13 year old last night, so would be able to play with him)...
I did prefer BF3 over COD, so does that make me a Roses Candidate? On the other hand Mount n Blade is one of those games where I get Nauseous, is Roses sort of the same engine?

You'll get more nauseous in Chivalry so Roses should be ok.
Viking is on Steam for about 5 bux.
Hmm...

Agree with Jomni, here.
Chivalry makes me a bit nauseous, even with FOV cranked and in a less widescreen format. WotR - not really. I think it has to do with how close the ground looks on the sides of the screen, when moving, in reference to the view in the middle of the screen. The peripheral distances & movement just don't sit well with me in Chivalry's Unreal engine whereas WotR doesn't have quite the pronounced difference (and looks prettier to boot). It also takes more practice to be proficient in it, and still needs the upcoming combat update to improve some mechanics to make it a bit faster.
Chivalry gets to me sometimes, but I've never had any problems with WotR. I'm kind of a motion sickness sissy, so if I'm ok I think you'll be good.
A good server makes all the difference. Command Tent and I played a few rounds on a heavily populated server but, apart from the first map, the play kind of sucked. Not enough people trying to complete objectives. Everyone just diving into melee and flailing like med men. Lots of team kills. Lots of high level discourse in chat. "LULZ, your a reterd.....FUKK U FAGGET!!!!!" and the like.
On the plus side, I did complete the hammer track for the knight. I don't think I like the 2nd and 3rd tier hammers. Too slow and you have to give up your shield to use them. 1st tier hammer is pretty good though.

SDR was doing alot better than me, I went 1 and 16 during the second round. Very embarrasing. :-[ Although I am going to take SDR's advice and try some servers with less players to try and get the hang of things. Still it is alot of fun to run around hacking people's arms and heads off. Until the motion sickness sets in....
Chivalry is free to play from now until Sunday on Steam.
Who's up for some head smashing, groin stabbing, Gus punting action?
Be gentle.

I didn't have high expectations going into this game, but wow, this is a lot of fun! I think I am definitely going to buy a copy while it is on sale.
Yup. I think it's a blast to play as long as you stay away from the free-for-all servers and if you don't get too many asshats on the objective servers.

Or have me 'accidentally' hit you with a sword..... ::)
Or a mace...
Or a cauldron of boiling oil....

Which would all be fine if you were on the other team......

Free for all is a good way to unlock weapons.
Free for all servers are chaotic messes and the reason why I was reluctant to get into MP in the first place.
I discovered that just practicing against some bots can be a lot of fun. They seem to do a pretty good job of fighting back, even including using kicks. ;D
Is there a way to disable chat? I will say that I am finding the chat community to be worse than anything I've seen in Call of Duty. This is probably due to the free to play weekend, but I am tired of seeing vulgar/racist comments, and 16 yo trash talkers filling the chat box with their adolescent blather. >:(
Also, the other day I accidentally hit some key that brought up a menu that included communication options, including war cries and stuff. Anybody know what key that was? ???
For Agatha!!!!

"Z" brings up objective shouts such as "forward", "retreat", "kill the archers", etc.
"X" brings up general chatter shouts like "yes", "no", and some pretty funny taunts.
There's also a war cry button. Try not to press it when standing still if baddies are close because it'll loock you into an animation loop showing you banging your shield or brandishing your weapon as you shout and the enemy gets a couple of free whacks in while you wait for the animation to run its course.
I like the laugh sound. BWAHAHAHAHA!

BTW: we are real close to the first mega patch/content drop:
http://www.chivalrythegame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9488
Looking forward to the new maps and toys but I'm bummed that they slowed down the speed of the halberd. I get more kills with the halberd than anything else. People never seem to expect a thrust to the ghoulies when being attacked with a halberd.
Looking forward to the patch and new content.
Looks like the patch and update dropped today as my STEAM is downloading for Chivalry
Damn it but I hate when they reset your key bindings after an update!
Anyway, that new pole hammer is brutal! I got nine kills in a row with it. Not sure about the flail yet. I am having trouble coming to terms with it and can't seem to hit much with it.
I never changed the keys so I'm fine. But the default refill item button is awkward
