Title: Just ordered...

...this

Looking forward to it. I have a love for Mark Walker games - but it's been a love from afar - never having owned one. I've wanted one for quite some time but never knew which one to get and in the end never bothered.

But I had some money for Christmas and read on here about this game, looked up a couple of reviews and thought "I'm getting that!"  ;D

it's a fun system.  A lot of people want it to be more than it is - which is the tactical game of Mark's version of WWIII - but if you just fight the battles that are there, it's a blast.

Cap'n Darwin was involved in the development of this one, too, IIRC.

Good choice, JD. It's a great series. It's one of my more frequently played board games. I think the system is well done and the quality of the game components is excellent.

P.S. We'll expect a World at War AAR from you now ;)

Good buy, JD. I have all the WaW stuff and its a very playable system, lots of fun, plenty of re-playabilty - and nice components. Hope you enjoy it!

Dredd,
Not sure where you live, but there is (hopefully) going to be a big Lock n Load publishing component at the Game On! gaming con in Issaquah, WA from Feb 7 - 11 ish.  Looks promising, and some LnL notables may be present.

Two things that are immediately apparent

Apart from that, it looks stunning.

Aye, the map is a biggy. Its actually surprising how quickly you remember the counter values, although the one that still gives me trouble is the darkish blue AAA value. But yes, I really like the WaW counter design. Those for the NaW series are a lot easier to read as they are 3/4" square rather than 5/8".

Great system JD, hope you enjoy playing the games as much as I have.

Don't tempt me Brant - I already have EG and DofP.......Plus I have Desert Heat and Stalin's Triumph on pre-order with LnL. If I order any more stuff my wallet will go nova and turn into a black hole.

Not to mention Mrs.B

Well - spent about an hour or more cutting out the counters. Now reading the rules.

I was going to dive in tomorrow - but I really do have to complete my P-40 Warhawk model so I can start on my beautiful Challenger 2 model...so this may have to wait until next weekend!

I may have had my hands in that one and a few others. Good games and a fun system. As for the cards, I'm glad to see them getting a chance to get out. I was talking to Mark about these back in very late 2011. We both have been too busy with other things the past year to swing back the guns.

Here is an example of the cards. Some of the formatting is still being tweaked and thus subject to change (CMA).

I'm personally not too fond of the font used (on the counter reproduction) - I would imagine having a hard time reading that on a card.  Just my personal observation.

I'm not sure what led to the font choise for the system. I'm sure like many decisions it looked good and "fit" the feel. For the words its a decent font but most folks have issues with the little 3s and 5s. They tend to look similar enough to throw folks off. That being said it doen't take much effort to catch on to what is what. White Star Rising, same system set in WW2, uses a different font and also larger 3/4" counters. Both help with older eyes looking at small numbers.

The cards are using the art plates from the counter production proofs. Enlarged enough to be readable and fit on the card with the additional info.

I think the WaW crowd will like them.

The font may not be ideal, but you do get used to reading the counter info pretty quickly. It seems like a lot at first (and it kinda is) but it is quite manageable after a play through or two.
