Sony to introduce technology that blocks second hand games. Personally I think they dont want to make consoles anymore so are trying to kill them off...

Doesn't necessarily mean it's even a move they plan to make. This way, if someone else does something similar, they have the patent. Pay up, suckas!

will work by linking individual game discs to a user's account without requiring a network connection meaning any future attempt to use this disc on another user's console won't work.
I've been telling you guys that consoles will be getting DRM-fisted before long, too. Here's hard evidence that it's progressing that direction. ;)
It also perfectly points out the major factor for instituting DRM - they want to prevent the 2nd-hand resale market completely and revoke any semblance of ownership via customer purchase.
There are already some games that need a separate purchase of a multiplayer pass to play mulitplayer. This gives them added income for 2nd hand purchases.
So this will grow a "grey" market for consoles with the "tag" reader bypassed. Much like the grey market for "no region" DVD players.
Agree they may never use it. To do so would mean war with Redbox and GameStop, not to mention some lawyer starting a class action law suit because he needs another Lamborghini (I can see the TV ads now...."have you lost the use of your games?" ). Then it will be a customer service nightmare when Playstation gamers decide to upgrade, and their "tags" don't transfer to the new machine correctly. Also, if the other manufacturers don't follow...it may drive business away from Sony.
Kind of like Mahan's "Fleet in Being", the threat of the this technology may get more for Sony than actually using it.
hmmmpf.. went to install my Direct2Drive CIV IV complete last night (which I downloaded when Direct2Drive was closing).. of course it tried to Activate to a 'non existent server (no go).... I'll have to look for the disks I got long ago... Grrrrr DRM sucks!!!
Caveat emptor.
So long as we keep buying the games with DRM we don't like, they'll keep making the games with DRM we don't like.
