XCOM: Enemy Unknown 3rd Patch is now live
The 3rd Patch for XCOM: Enemy Unknown is now live for all systems. The Second Wave addition is now available for those who have beaten the game. And a few bugs have been squashed including the AI teleport bug and the defeat screen when beating the game.
For those on PC, the Chris Kluwe hero unlock is now available. Chris beat Firaxis' Garth DeAngelis in a head to head match and won. His prize was being added to the game as a playable character.

2ND WAVE??????????????? YAY!!!!!!!
Yeah.. what's the "second wave" option?
Is that like extra Diablo playthroughs, with higher difficulty and the same characters?

Its some options that makes the game harder. Increases things like flank crit chance, gives elrium a half life, increases abduction sites, etc.

QuoteThe free update includes (but isn't limited to) the following options. Many of these are unlocked after you beat the game—if you've already completed XCOM, you should see the full list.
•Damage Roulette: Weapons have a wider range of damage.*
•New Economy: Randomized council member funding.*
•Not Created Equally: Rookies will have random starting stats.*
•Hidden Potential: As a soldier is promoted, stats increase randomly.*
•Red Fog: Combat wounds will degrade the soldier's mission stats.
•Absolutely Critical: A flanking shot guarantees a critical hit.
•The Greater Good: Psionics can only be learned from interrogating a psionic alien.
•Marathon: The game takes considerably longer to complete.
•Results Driven: A country offers less funding as its panic level increases.
•High Stakes: Random rewards for stopping alien abductions.
•Diminishing Returns: Increased cost of satellite construction.
•More Than Human: The psionic gift is extremely rare.
These options are going to go a long way in making the game more interesting. Looks like it is time to jump into XCOM again. :)
Oooh! Interesting.
Thanks Rooks.

Thanks Rooks.
No prob! ;)
I started a new campaign with the first four options. Unfortunately, I am still finding the first portion of the game to be too easy. I've done about 6-8 missions so far with not a single loss - sometimes not a single injury, either! I remember with the original XCOM that the earliest missions could be the toughest because of your poor equipment. Not so here. I just breeze my way through - it's actually boring. I bet my soldiers laugh about how easy it is to kill aliens when they are back at the barracks. ;D
I have some questions about the Demo I downloaded from Steam and since I don't see an X-Com thread I hope someone in this one can help.
Is there a manual with the Demo? How do you access it?
How do you exit the game?
My mouse is acting very slow, it is hard to move to an exact spot. Is there a way to adjust the mouse?
Thanks
The manual can be accessed either from the store page or your library. It is located on the right hand side of the screen. I always found the combat controls a little sensitive but CAPT is the resident expert on XCOM and should be able to get you a real answer. :)
The game manual has only two pages, not counting the NDA and covers. One of those has Minimum requirements and hotkeys. The other is just a very brief summary of base structures IIRC. Not terribly useful. But the game isn't difficult to learn, either.

There is a newer, lengthier version of the
XCOM .pdf manual, although it is still very brief. You can get it here (http://www.2kgames.com/manual/xcomeu/).
Thanks all.
How do you exit the game? I had to open Task Manager to close it.

Really?
I just hit Esc for the menu and exit.

I hit escape (about 10 times!) and nothing came up. I was even in Windows mode but could get the mouse to the X button to close it.
I'll try again tonight. It looks cool but if I can't get the mouse to work well enough I'm not sure it's worth it. My mouse was really touchy.
Wait for it to go on sale again but it is worth it. Actually I remember the same issue with the demo and escaping out of the game. To be fair the demo is like 2 battles and takes an hours or so before you are kicked back to the menu screen.
Marty are you in the Steam group?

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that. I really want to like this game. I loved the originals.
The demo was like a 6 GB download. Took quite a while to download.
Does it download the full game and it just unlock it if I buy or will I need to do another big ass download if I buy it?
I believe it's a new download.
^ Crap.

You can also put the url in your steam browser bar. You might need to creat a profile but it's pretty easy.

Hit the big Community button along the top and type in Grogheads to the 'Search players and groups' bar in the top right. Join that. Done. :)

Well it'd only be right. It's not like we're handing out food stamps or EBT cards.
Look I'm an old fart. It took me almost 2 years to find out I had Siri on my iPad. It might have taken me the rest of life to figure out Steam!
And here we are still Martyless in our Steam group. You know some of the guys play Warlock multiplayer through Steam?
I'll get there ...... eventually.
Beat you to it, Marty!
:P
That's just sad...beaten to the Steam group by a man who apparently can't figure out how to give himself an avatar here...
When I did a group search on Steam, for Grogheads, it didn't return anything. I had to get someone to send me an invite.
Ahhh, Steam..

I'm pretty sure you could hire him to do that job for you for no more than a beer. ;D
It took me 30 minutes of tutorial to realize that my I had a screwed up Speaker setting in my own PC (my fault) and the voices weren't coming through. It was really annoying, but the lack of voices made it oddly haunting...
Ok I joined.
OK. Cool man. I sent you a friend invite.
^ I won't be able to accept until tomorrow. Wife's on the computer with all the Steam stuff
Rough. She should buy her own computer!

Don't let her hear you say that!
She has access to the desktop, 3 laptops and 2 ipads. So guess who gets bumped :)

Ok we're buddies now. Can you lend me a few bucks? ;D
Cannot help with the money but I do have a couple of games sitting in my gift bin that I'm not even sure how I got that I could pass along. Unfortunately XCom is not one of them. I think I've got Torchlight and CIV 5 or something like that.
That is rather generous, both good games.
