Whilst vibrating like an excited monkey about the new incoming PC, the process is not without its pains in the ass - I know im OK with steam games, but does anyone know if there are unlimited downloads associated with Gamersgate, i have Arma II, OA, and Brit Forces from them

Yes GG has unlimited downloads.
Gamersgate unlimited for the rest of your life as far as I know.
Every new hard drive I have to go back and get 'em.

SSD or traditional hard drive?
GB - I'm happy with good old 7 - the store sells it with 7, 8 is an upgrade option

Classic Shell (no relation :) ) will give you back your start menu.
