Title: Skyrim - Recommended Mods
Post by: Bison on January 16, 2013, 06:36:44 PM
I've got a couple installed from the workshop.  A lock picking measurement thingy and a potion name and weight ones.  I cannot remember the names exactly.

What I'm looking for is a list of mods that add to the game play like graphics, gameplay, inventory/crafting organization, and I'm not sure what.  Just looking to see what you all use to maximize your experience.  I'm not really interested in anything that isn't downloaded from the Steam Workshop.

I run a ridiculous number of mods.  I tend to use Skyrim Nexus rather than Steam Workshop, since some of what I run isn't available through the Workshop. Here's a list of the mods I consider really useful - most of these probably are available through the Workshop:

Apachii Hair
Climates of Tamriel
Lanterns of Skyrim
Unofficial Skyrim Patch
Unofficial Dawnguard patch
CM New Companions
Wearable Lanterns
Vurt's Skyrim Flora Overhaul
Convenient Horses
iHUD
Wet And Cold
Cloaks of Skyrim
Crimson Tide
Deadly Dragons (Lore Friendly version)
Deadly Spell Impacts
Duel - Realistic Combat
Dynamic Timescale
Enhanced Distant Terrain
Follower Trap Safety
High Quality 3D Map
Immersive Armors
Immersive Weapons
Interesting NPCs
Lush Grass
Lush Trees
New Animation for Magic Casting
Populated Cities
Realistic Needs and Diseases
Realistic Smoke and Embers
Realistic Room Rental
SkyUI
Ultimate Follower Overhaul
WATER
Xenius Character Enhancement

A really good guide to game enhancing mods that don't cause major gameplay changes in Skyrim G.E.M.S (http://www.skyrimgems.com/).

The above is actually only a sampling of what I run, but they are what I feel are the best mods of the bunch.

If you plan to do serious modding, ditch the Steam workshop and get the Nexus Mod Manager from http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/modmanager/ (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/modmanager/).

A good video on the NMM was done by Gopher over at Nexus and can be found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClqtmSUsFhg&list=PL20E326325BADAE44. If you plan to really mod your game, I would also watch his video on the Skyrim Script Extender as a lot of mods require it.

For recommended mods I would look at the GEMS series that Panzerde posted, and I would also watch Gophers Skyrim Mod Sanctuary series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_4RotEtks0&list=SP96C073B0B8BFC01D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_4RotEtks0&list=SP96C073B0B8BFC01D).

Mods I consider Essential are:

SkyUI

Skyrim Redone (if youve played the game multiple times and wantto make the game harder)
Immersive Armors
Immersive Weapons
Lush Trees
Lush grass
Convenient Horses

Wow indeed. I don't play with any mods and Skyrim is one of my favorite games ever...I now feel like I am missing something.

I'm overwhelmed.  I just wanted to restart a new TMP character that I lost when my last computer crapped out.

That is what I thought as well when I saw the list.

Does any of you know if you can install these and continue with your saved game?

I think many Skyrim mods, if not most, allow for installing and then continuing on your merry way.

Install should be ok as long as its not something that effects perks, etc.. Uninstalling anything other then armor/weapon mods in the middle of a game isn't usually recommended though

Updated my list of recommended mods.

Wow +3.

I have two mods- Frostfall is the first one I think, it basically mods the game so that you have to dress warmly in the cold parts of the map or you start taking frostbite and cold damage.  You can start fires and camp and stuff like that.  I think it is called Frostfall.

The second mod is wearable lanterns.  It allows you to put fireflies into jars and put them on your belt to cast light.  You can also just put a regular lantern on your belt, but the firefly lantern is cooler.

Oh, I do have a third mod.  I can't remember what it's called, but it's a little house on the river that you can live it.  It's very relaxing and quite cool, next to a waterfall. It's the kind of mod where you just want to jump into the game for real and take a nap.  I wish I could set it up as my screensaver, actually.

I just searched for it- it's called Gleaming Falls.

I installed the Housecarls Don't Die mod so Lydia wouldn't get killed when she ran off after all the bad guys like she frequently does and then I have to cart all her stuff back to town to sell it. It worked perfectly until I installed Dawnguard and now she's back to dying again. Hopefully a newer version will correct this soon.
