Title: Skyrim: Dawnguard
Post by: PanzersEast on January 27, 2013, 11:08:37 AM
Is this DLC any good?  I see it is on sale and Hearthfire as well.

I did not care for it and I am a huge Skyrim fan. Now I'm stuck with a character that is a vampire lord and don't know what exactly to do (I may reload after a few hours of play). The vampire lord stuff was really annoying and not very interesting (and the 3rd person perspective is off-putting).

However, the upcoming Dragonborn DLC looks much more interesting, despite the odd look to the bad guy's mask... I can't NOT see some sort of stylized "lady bits" when I see this mask:

You have a dirty mind.  He looks like a bug.

I think you need to get out some more and meet some girls if this brings up images of certain things best left to another Grogheads forum :P

In anycase, thanks to my latest HD crash, I lost all my installed Skyrim mods and I can't even remember which ones I used (so I could redownload them) :(

I played Dawnguard from the other side (preferred to keep my werewolf form) and have enjoyed it so far. I did try the vampire side first but didn't like all the draw backs so I went back to an earlier save and restarted the line. The crossbows are worth being on the dawnguard, exploding bolts are fun. Their is also the undead horse(and dragon) you can summon at will when you finish their quest parts. In all I think it is a worthy dlc.

Well, the Alien in Aliens wasn't exactly subtle on what it represented, even if gross and distorted.

I stand by what I said. It looks like HR Geiger designed the mask to be both horrific and sexual. Even if you go with "bug," he still looks like he is saying "O RLY?" and is slightly too sleepy to open his eyes.

I am just getting back in to Skryim after a long absence.  I doubt I will get get Dawnguard as I don't care much for vampires.  I was thinking about Hearthfire but since you can only really build pre-designed houses it doesn't intrigue me that much.  If I can get far enough along in my current game than I am sure I'll get Dragonborn when it comes out.

We had a pretty long discussion re: Dawnguard quite a while ago.  A search might turn it up.

Overall I really enjoyed it.  I feel like I got my money's worth at full price, so on sale I definitely think it's worth it.

I blew it...went to get Dawnguard on Steam for $9.99 and it wasn't on sale anymore....back up to $19.99.  I'll have to wait until next time.

I just finished it and loved it. I played as a vampire-hunter. That said I do not think it it's worth 20.00...I waited for it to go on sale on Steam. Also really looking forward to the next DLC! Skyrim is one of my favorite games of the last few years.
