Woah... I've been waiting for a game like this to come into being. I like Cities in Motion, but that is a bit more limited in scope for me. And the A-Train series is just too darn difficult to deal with.
So how does this investing thing work? If I invest and they don't make their goal, do I get my money back? And if they do make their goal, but never deliver the game, are you able to get your money back? Or are you basically gambling they will come through?
An updated Transport Tycoon would be awesome. No other game since has scratched that itch for me so far.

Thanks som, appreciate the details. Your strategy makes sense to play to safe with people you know and trust. I'll keep my eye on this one and see how it turns out.

You do need to use the internal download software to grab the modules (industries and transport options) that you want and also to provide some AI players. It is very easy, but if you don't know that you need to do that, the game will seem very sparse.

There is also an Android version. I d/l'd it on my Fire, but even on the 7" screen, the text and hotspots were very tiny and a pain to hit.
I may try the Windows version sometime.

I could go for that. I spent countless hours with Transport Tycoon Deluxe, so if this is anything like it, I'm in.
This does look interesting. I used to play Railroad Tycoon for many, many hours back in the day. The gameplay videos on Steam look pretty interesting, and the game seems rather intuitive. Would like to see more of how you run an empire...if it's like RTII I'd seriously consider buying this one.

I love open TTD. If you do a little digging, you can find a mod that essentially quadruples the amount and types of freight. Dozens of different resource chains, including some level 4 chains! It can get fantastically complex, much more so than in Open TTD, which was more complex by far than Transportation Tycoon.
Glad this came up again....will see how the release goes, no preorder for me. Seems like only value of the pre order is to get a soundtrack and so e kind of graphic.
I missed that pre-order offer, probably still won't pre-order, but it does tempt me a bit. Loved the music for RRT3. :smitten: I'd need to hear (and like) some more samples for TF for it to push me over the edge.

I'll likely end up getting it, nothing like playing with trains:) But does seem like a puzzling pre order offer, no price discount or anything really that significant, besides if your into the soundtrack and poster. Therefore, really nothing for me to personally benefit from out of the gate......my wallet actually thanks me since if there was a good offer I would have likely purchased already:)
Doesn't seem to be much chatter at the official forums at the game site, always makes me nervous when things are quiet during the development process.

Railroad Tycoon II is strategic, with scenarios and campaigns.
This game is tactical, with a sandbox mode. Not much depth to it at all..and I fear that this lack of depth will limit the re-playability. Fun for a week, then on to something else.
Even with the discount, I'll be holding off until there are some player's feedback....seems like it can be interesting, but haven't seen enough to see if it will have staying power.
Anybody purchase? Seems like the game is taken a beating in the steam forums as being buggy and unfinished.
I managed to keep my wallet closed and held off getting it and from the comments on the Steam forum am glad I did.

Damn. Birthday was two days ago, and have money to spend. This is on my wishlist, this and Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star. Is the wargame any good? I like the genre a lot..and I should have picked up the Kharkov version some time ago. I like the Combat Mission series as well..own almost all of them.

I don't like purchasing a game that's released before it is completed, but I've been waiting for a worthy successor to Transport Tycoon for a long time. I probably would have waited a while longer had it not been for a friend of mine who spent 30 hours this past week playing Train Fever and whose tastes in PC games are usually very similar to my own.
So I took the plunge and purchased the game from Steam. Then I printed the Beginner's Guide to Train Fever by dakdak99 (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=307389079). Hopefully Train Fever will keep me so entertained that I won't come up for air until the wee hours of the morning.

Train Fever. I didn't. I prefer the simplicity of
Transport Tycoon and
Railroad Tycoon. The only overlay I made much use of was the contour overlay and if I wanted to determine the grade of a track I'm building, I would rather use the survey tool that

Train Fever's contour overlay. It's just simpler and easier to use.
Train Fever is similar in many ways to
Transport Tycoon, but its way of doing things is more difficult. Despite having similar buildings with the same functions, they are harder to place on the map. Also the method of laying out routes seemed rather convoluted to me; a step backward from the older titles.
Perhaps I'm being too critical of the game and if somewhere down the road I change my tune, I will certainly let everyone know. But for right now it
is more like work than a game.

Yeah, looks like they've kept busy on it after release too. My boy is obsessed with trains so I may well grab it this time.

Thanks for the heads up Pete. It was priced similarly in the Autumn Sale, and while I'm tempted (then and now), with the mixed reviews I'm still hoping for something a bit better than the 40% off.
This game just doesn't get the scale correct. A mature train line for six small towns, fairly close together just doesn't work for me.

THIS game, Transport Fever, looks pretty good. There appears to be a more robust industry system in play, with the UI a lot more friendly. In short, it appears to be a nice upgrade from Train Fever. I have seen every video available, including the many two minute long developer blogs..and I like what I see, to this point.
So what do you exactly do in this game?

How about Train Simulator 2017 and Trainz?
Transport Fever is a hugely better game than Train Fever. Recent updates have made Transport Fever better still. Many (including me) have found it difficult to trigger the development and production of industries...usually due to the woogedy cachement areas surrounding the industrial sites.
There are a few let's plays where there are MASSIVE railroad empires going. The best I have done is about 20 trains, and 100 trucks and busses. This is a good game, folks, as good as RRT 2.
I like a good transport sim, not on sale right now, wish listed.

I would look at either Open TTD, or Simutrans. Simutrans is available on Steam for free, OTD has its own website. OTD is also a little fiddly to get going..you may need to download multiple files. OTD is also free..but in this case, there is a LOT of game to explore.
