Title: Silent Hunter Online
Post by: Greybriar on February 05, 2013, 07:54:43 AM
I just heard about Silent Hunter Online (http://en.silenthunteronline.com/). I don't know any details about it except that it's by Ubisoft.

If you're interested, sign up for the beta using the link above.

It could end up being awesome or a dud, depending on their implementation.  IIRC, it's a browser-based game so we'll have to wait and see just how dumbed down it's been.  It's to be expected but still has potential if they put enough into it.

yaaaay. Hideous game-killing bugs online.  :P ::)

(By which I mean I'd wait until the mod community sorts it out first. Then it should variably approach being sufficiently awesome. :) )

Modding an online game sounds as if it would be like herding cats who can teleport.

Hairless invisible teleporting cats, even.

Anything with "online" in its title instantly gives me the douche chills.

+1

I didn't want to be the first guy to rain on the parade, but... It might be doable through add-ons, but with an online game most of the code is running server-side. Not sure how they're going to accomplish that.

I doubt there's much of a parade to rain on, to be honest.  I can't imagine anyone here is particularly excited for a silly little browser game based on a hardcore simulation.  Especially from Ubisoft.
