Extremely well written and interesting article, right up until the reference to Timpko as an "ex-Marine." It all actually makes me want to buy the Scourge of War games.
I never knew enough about this saga to have an opinion. It is, however, very interesting, and describes what I thought might
have happened. Once the cheerleaders joined in and started scuffling the truth disappeared for the casual observer.
That is an incredibly sad story. There is a sense of dramatic irony that two guys who made Civil War games would break apart in a personally devastating internal conflict. It was hard to read about, a little bit.
I am glad that both men are finally more public about what happened.
Thanks for posting this. I came late to that particular party, and wasn't even aware of the history until some people here started referencing it. Nice to know what people are talking about, even if the story isn't pleasant.

Fascinating read. I only vaguely remember the WG brew up. I never really followed the split.
That was quite the story. I was aware of the situation but not the details. Reading it was a somber experience and a reminder that sides to every story there are three yet we must make due with only two.
That was a great read, seems pretty balanced. Very much a tragedy though. I remember the WG thread being pure gold, right up there with a Derek Smart(He Who Shall Not Be Named) flame war.

Perhaps, but the difference is, nobody actually took Smart's side. He was pretty much universally hated by all.
Thanks for the link. I knew of the controversy but very little about it.
This whole thing really struck close to home for me back then. My brother had a small business and got cancer. I started running his route and doing the ordering while he was sick. His girlfriend continued doing her route. After he died there would have been no way to "train" her how to do it successfully. So I ended up with the business and paid her for part of it. I was probably the bad guy, but I'm getting used to that because after being the only sibling to take care of my parents I'm starting to hear that I'm the bad guy.
I've also since had a friend that would never "do" anything. We would supposedly work on things together, but I'm the one that was always "doing" it. I don't need that either, so I rarely see him anymore.
So, I can really relate to Mad Minute's story.
I don't know how much bias- intentional or unintentional- there is in that article. However, I never really knew the details but based on that article I think Timko is perfectly justified in his actions.
I remember being on the periphery of the tail end of this mess and not really understanding what the Hell was going on. Glad to know, as sad as it is.

Damn, that really is a rather tragic story. I was aware Mad Minute Games wasn't around anymore, but otherwise I knew nothing about how that came to be.

It's a shame this had to happen.
I personally didn't see any bias. I saw an article that managed to be quite down the middle while discussing a topic that has been overflowing with emotional responses from the outset.
I wondered when one of those 'emotional responses' would show up.
I avoided most of the bickering at the time, and I certainly don't know all that happened. It sounds like nobody ever will other than the two people in question. But every time someone shows up fully touting one side while thrashing the other, I smell bias. There's two sides to every story and when one is blasted right off the bat - reader beware.
I do not necessarily disagree with the general point Altdess is making. There were a few times while I was reading the article that I thought to myself that it was a little biased towards timpko.

do think it had more time spent on Timpko's position. But the majority of what I ever heard was how he punched some guy with cancer, and no mention was told of the other side, so this was an unusual look.
It is rather like taking sides in a marital dispute isn't it?
You want to support your friend in a rough situation but you never know what

Good point. Usually there are His Friends, Her Friends, and Our Friends.
No one is more valued by the people in the separation than those loyal to them.
^^That is true but the people who were on my side during my marital crash and burn
were backing somebody who was responsible for no less than 50% of the problem.

Funny, when I was reading, I felt that the first half was leaning toward Bryant.

The reason why we are all chuckling AltDess, is that this is not an unfair snipe - the crowd at Wargamer was well known for being contentious in their discussions.
I'm not sure how releasing the maps made TC2M a totally worthless game. In order to play, you still had to buy it. I understand that expansions are gone. At any rate, Norb created the code so why shouldn't he be able to "take it with him"?
The world is a shitty place and relationships break up all of the time. Why people spend so much energy getting involved in arguments that they know little about or that don't involve them is amazing. I can't say that the article was biased because I don't know what really happened.
Btw, the comment about the war gamer was by the author, not Norb.
I bought Scourge and have had nothing but great experienced with Norb and his team. When my rig went down, it took one email and 10 minutes before he sent me new download links to redownload the Antietam and Pipe Creek expansions I bought.
