When I first was introduced to Dungeons and Dragons by a neighbor hood friend, he used these rules.  Of course I went on to get the red box and eventually the blue, black, gold boxes and all of the 1st ed. AD&D books I could afford to pick up from saving up birthday money, doing chores, and odd jobs around the neighborhood.  I'd love to have an original set of the books, but they are crazy expensive and this set is honestly not much better priced.  $150?  Wow.

If you need 1st Edition AD&D, you'd probably be better off getting old copies of the originals off eBay. I got an extra set for my kids to have cause they like to make notes and such right in the books. Better those 2nd copies than my original set.

Well honestly I'm going to pick up a set of the new reprinted 1st editon.  Overtime if I see an original in a used shop I'll pick it up.

Specifically I was talking about the price of the pre-1st ed. or basic sets that the article was discussing.

Nice!  Now if only I had a spare $150.  :P
