been wanting to get back into a chopper cockpit, but havent really played since the good old apache longbow days.
Is there any good heli sims out there. I dont want some arcade shitty game though.
DCS: KA-50 Blackshark
Take On Helicopters
I honestly thought the title of this thread was "Any good HELL sims out there?". I had no idea what to expect when I came in here. :o

Is still the best... have tried several but nothing beats it... I like the dynamic campaign and there is not one out there that can reproduce that.

They were good in their day, but even modded, I believe they have been surpassed. From the perspective of the "best sim" experience, I'm hard pressed to see how DCS KA-50 can be overcome presently.

I don't disagree that the sim experience is better (systems modeled and flight dynamics), however without a dynamic campaign and the feel of being in a war, it leaves me empty. I know I have been spoiled on Falcon 4 and EECH dynamic environment and it is hard to play without it.

I have to agree with Jarhead. DCS:Ka-50 is the best helo sim out there right now. The problem with DCS:Ka-50 is the same as it is with all of their sims- lack of any kind of "game" behind the sim.
I haven't invested the time to get into DCS multiplayer, but I imagine it is quite fun.
IF the whole DCS:World enchilada comes to fruition with multiple DCS platforms, a fleshed out Combined Arms, and full multiplayer functionality, and the community buys-in, you're going to be hardpressed to find anything better.
So, DCS:Ka-50 is the "best" in my opinion.
Modded EECH is very "fun" but is really starting to show its age. Of the two EECH is very cheap, so if money is a factor, it's a low buy-in. You could also just get both.

I vote for modded EECH. I don't play for the rivet counting experience and I (as has been stated many times before) detest any form of DRM which rules out DCS.
ty for the replies guys :)

LOL. That was my first thought, since I recently went back to it having not touched it for about two years.
Is there a helicpoter sim that uses track IR to simulate the AH-64 30mm cannon, where the chaingun aims where you look?

Sure, EECH does that ;)
Can we stop calling EECH a 'sim' please. :P

What would you call it? Any "sim" in the PC environment is a "game" first and a "sim" second.
A game indeed. :) 8)
There is little sim-like in EECH. :P

I think you're quibbling over semantics but whatever.......
Granted. THIS is a simulator http://www.aviationsystemsdivision.arc.nasa.gov/facilities/cvsrf/acfs.shtml.
Call it what you will. It will teach you how to fly a helicopter in combat situations.
You're obviously not aware of the common discussions over at the Eagle Dynamics board.
Calling anything else than ED's study sims a sim is a continuous joke around there.
Nevermind. :D

I suspected that was the crux of the issue.
Those guys sound so elitist. Many in the simming world are like that. They try to prove that they are better than the common gamer...

Aye.
What next? Denying the tag to games like
Strike Fighers 2? ???
You are a little late to the party, Nefaro. ;)
It was already established as being a joke that did not click. So nevermind.

Sorry.. hadn't frequented the ED boards. I'm sure there are plenty Sim elitists there, that you were making fun of. ;D
