Title: Video: Graphical evolution of First Person Shooters: 1992-2012
Post by: Staggerwing on March 18, 2013, 06:37:40 PM
I thought some of you might find this interesting. It's a gameplay montage showing the changes using a sample of popular games. Turn up the video quality if your connection can handle it.

Good times! Although I have to say I'm glad I skipped the muddy-gloom phase of FPSes. :)

That's a great vid!  Really makes you appreciate how far we have come.  I wonder how long it will be before we look at BF3 and think "Ugh!  That looks so fake!"  ;D

I am somewhat surprised, however, that neither Call of Duty, nor Medal of Honor, made the cut.  >:(  Those two franchises did more to advance the FPS genre than just about any other titles I can think of.

I don't think the intent was a 'greatest hits' montage as much as an attempt to show the natural progression of the eyecandy.

Yeah, they only took one game maximum per year. So no Unreal, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Halo or TF2 because there were other games that perhaps did more in those years.
