Title: Battlefield 4
Post by: RooksBailey on March 20, 2013, 03:57:06 PM
Might as well give the game its own thread at this point.

EA/Dice today revealed the official website, along with a single screenshot:

If you sign in, you get an exclusive dog tag to use in BF3.

They are very good at teasing their games.

How is the single-player content supposed to be in this one?

I found the SP campaign in BF3 very enjoyable although it was very short.  It shows off the game nicely letting you try all sorts of vehicles and weapons and the story line kept my interest.

I loved the single player in BF3.

I don't know the answer to BF4 - but I think I'll pull the trigger anyway. I haven't been disappointed with any of the BF series and have had many, many hours of fun - although my online play is very limited...still a corporal I think!  ;)

Umm...yawn?

Nothing in that vid impressed me. It looks like a campaign expansion for BF3, rather than an entirely new entry to the BF franchise. Yet another scripted campaign; yet another series of hanging by your fingertips/having big objects fall on you; yet another bump in graphics to no good purpose. Boooring. About the only thing that caught my eye were the squad commands - reminds me a bit of Op Flashpoint...but, of course, Op Flashpoint had an open, sandbox campaign. Guess DICE was too busy bumping up the graphics to really offer anything new in terms of a SP campaign.

I'll keep an open mind, especially since I haven't seen anything of the all important MP yet, but the SP campaign is not making me excited.

It does look pretty but doesn't seem to change up their standard game MO much.

Well the new thing in SP is that you can command your teammates to some degree.

I hate fact that you need to hit the enemy a lot of times to kill them.

I hope the new Arma 3 has a much improved MP system.  And by that, I mean having plenty of public servers that host game modes that would be familiar to BF and CoD players - conquest, team deathmatch, etc.  This is the real reason why games like BF and CoD are so popular: you know that at any time of the day or night you can find a fun jump-in-and-play MP match.  Unfortunately, A2 never had that; if you weren't part of a clan that played regularly on their own server, you were pretty much left out in the cold.

If A3 can deliver a MP experience more like that of CoD or BF, I think you could easily see A3 eat their lunches.

Arma 2 warfare game mod is a giant conquest map.  Bad part is that you need to travel very far after every death.   Most Arma 2 servers now play wither Wastelands mode or DayZ Mod.   I can say Wastelands is pretty fun and relatively fast paced compared to Warfare or DayZ.   Go look for Wasteland servers and try it out (you need to turn off all moss as this one needs unmodified assets) .

I booted up A2 today just to see what was going on in the MP portion and all I found were two co-op servers and about a dozen Day Z servers.   :(  This is precisely what I mean about A3 needing to kick its MP game up a notch.

BTW:  I just saw you posted a link to the BF4 vid.  Sorry about the repost; didn't mean to step on your shoes.  You had the vid first!   :-[

I want to see the MP. I enjoyed a lot of hours with MP BF3, so I'm on board for this one if it looks promising.

No worries about the video.  Anyway ARMA is still mainly an SP game for me as well.
