Title: Armada 2526 Gold only 15 at Gamersgate why so cheap elswher 32 for game & nova E
Post by: gameleaper on March 27, 2013, 04:26:20 PM
Armada 2526 Gold is only £15 at gamersgate, I found the game and expansion elswhere for £32 + VAT = £36.40. I know its an older game and its probably been talked about before, but a triple price tag! this is amazing price difference for the same game, the £32 is for game & then exp seperate NOT gold version.

Im all for a bargain :) I snapped it up. I dont want to name the expensive company as they are normaly ok, and sell great stuff.

Armada 2526 Supernova is my favorite turn based space game right now. It has that 'old school' feel that I like in my turn based games. Yeah, I'm an old school old fool.  ;D

I just fired it up and tried a quick space battle , you choose a point limit and buy ships to take to real time battle, but the RTS gameplay was easy to handle much easier than usual RTS, not tried the turnbased stategy of the game yet, but I very much enjoyed the battle creation.

Yeah.. may have only been the original, though.  This one has the expansion too and I've only considered jumping in all-or-nothing.

Some people seem to enjoy it, hereabouts, so it's worth a shot at fifteen I guess.

edit:   HRmmmmm...

Nevermind.. not on sale anymore?  Perhaps I'll wait until a big event sale anyway.  I've still got crap I've not even played!

The one thing that has always held me back was how tiny the Tech Research options looked to be.  Or, at least, the way it looks in the screenshots.

Yeah.. that looks almost Sins sized.  I suppose it's larger than it initially looks, however, so my first impression wasn't quite correct.

I see.  Well, it's $20 but it's not on sale.  I wrongly got the impression it was on sale, and ran off to look.  ;D  I'm still not in a big hurry to pick it up since I got so much on the table already.

Pretty sure it was the gold edition....only played it once or twice and lost interest.

Just delurking to point out that Armada 2526 is part of the Bundle Stars "Fire & Ice" bundle, with a load of other games for £3.94 minimum payment.

I don't know what version, I'm assuming just standard. Also not sure on the other games, mostly budget stuff.

Still it looks like a decent deal.

Same here.  I know I've been all about the love for Distant Worlds lately, but there's no question that Armada 2526/Supernova remains my favorite TBS 4x title in the last several years -- if not ever.

I really hope Ntronium makes a sequel at some point (they've indicated it may be a possibility in the future).  An "Armada 2527" with better combat, more artwork, and perhaps better graphics (along with whatever other improvements) would very possibly become my all-time favorite space strategy game.

Welcome to Grogheads, weateallthepies

That is a good deal.  However, it appears to be just the base Armada game, sans the Supernova expansion.  That would still be worth the money IMO, but it would be lacking the features Supernova added...including PBEM play.

Cheers for the welcome, I might hang around a while since I've decloaked.  :)

I might grab it anyway, I'm sure it'll give me a good idea whether I'll enjoy the full game with expansion.

Martok is somehow responsible that I am now playing Armada, a great elegant game that fulfills my need for a 4X space opera game to 100%. A blast to play via PbEM. I'm perfectly happy with it :)

Found my order....it wasn't an actual gold version, but it was a sale where I got the original game plus the super nova expansion for a total of $5.26.....this was at gamefly/direct2drive back in the 2011 holiday sale.

True enough.  I definitely enjoyed the vanilla game, so I'd consider it money well-spent in any case.

And yes, the base game does indeed give you a good idea of whether you'd like Supernova as well -- if you like/dislike the former, you'll also like/dislike the latter.

Always good to know I've created another addict.  ;D

Seriously, though, I'm glad you and Hiimori are enjoying it!  Good to know my recommendation worked out for you.  :)
