For a generation of kids, Saturday morning meant cartoons. And with their cartoons came learning. In the form of Schoolhouse Rocks. Today is April 19, the day of, "The shot heard round the world." The 238th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
I don't own any Revolutionary War PC games, but I will be gaming this weekend. It'll be Warlock and I'll see if Civ IV maybe has an American Revolution mod. Happy gaming!

The historical segments might be painfully simplified but they were written for 7 year olds and I'll bet that some of those kids grew up with an appetite for history that was first whetted but those short musicals.

Loved schoolhouse rock! I have the cd from the mid 1990s where the various rock bands remade the schoolhouse rock songs.
Hopefully get some Far Cry 2 in and some boardgaming.
I am one of those kids who learned to love US istory and the US because of Schoolhouse Rock...I should start watching it with my kids.
Will be continuing my Medieval II campaign as the French, maybe start Skyrim: Dragonborn and perhaps fire up CK II.

Once that is done I'm going to take a small break from PC gaming and unbox my newly arrived copy of Steel Wolves from Compass Games. First board game I've purchased since I played Axis and Allie back in high school.

Too old for SHR, but in New Mexico in the early 1960s apparently UK films from the 1940s were cheap to rent by the Imperial Ton and the TV stations played those
movies a lot so my 7-year-old to 12-year-old mind was formed believing that the RN and the RAF were the most stupendous (if outnumbered by an underhanded and unsporting foe or two) powers for good on the planet. And so I will be playing Cliffs of Dover this week-end. Or a least fooling with the Full mission builder and saying to myself, "We suspect Jerry has no idea how the Group and Sector Commands work."

Nice score Kushan. Steel Wolves doesn't come cheap and requires a massive time investment to play. I'd love to hear your impressions some time as I really enjoy Silent War am looking for an excuse... ::)
I'm starting my weekend with some counter clipping as I finsh prepping new copy of Thunderbold Apache Leader. I also purchased the minis (thankyou wife for forgetting my recent b-day :) )

I'll back back at Skyrim all modded up..... I'm heading to check out a Rangers lodge and continue questing and exploring knows where. Maybe will get some FSX flights in as well.

Civ 4 Colonization was not so stupendous...I had high hopes for that game :(
I am so old that when I was a kid we didn't have Saturdays. We just went straight Sunday. Been playing the Sicilian Vespers mod for M2TW in order to get my M2TW fix in and now I'm pretty much over it so it's back to Shogun 2 or CMBN.
What did you think of it?

I'd also have doubts as to whether a Civ4 mod would be as specialized and not just Civ4 with Revolutionary War window dressing. Myself.. I'd just fire up AGEOD's BOA2 if I were in such a period mood.
My boys are playing World of Tanks this morning.. I may have to download that give it a shot and join them tonight (I know, I missed that party, but it looks like fun)..
Other than that, probably some DCS A-10 Warthog, Iron Front on SimHQ Saturday, maybe some Warlock.
I might just finally pull the trigger on Shaddow Magic.
It's a great little mod. Lots of new factions, 4 different start dates with the factions adjusted, lots of new units and buildings. Just one annoying part for me is every settlement you lay seige to, spawns extra units automatically. A town has 11 units so you attack with a general and maybe 12 or 13 units and you have to build rams and such so the next turn your ready to assault and the town now has a full 20 unit garrison. I understand the reason is to make the AI more of a challenge and it does make a degree of sense, if your town was under seige you'd put everybody on the walls but some of the spawnd units are better than mine, even heavy cav. It just feels like a cheat instead of a part of the game. Every settlement so far does this-- version 3.3. Still it's a lot of fun, just bugs me. You can learn alot about the history of factions also. Lots of detail.
I will be doing my World of Tanks dailies for a few hours. I haven't bought any new games for awhile, so I will be playing some oldies but goodies.
One of them might be Civilization IV: Colonization. Have you guys tried the Authentic Colonization Mod? It's the best mod I've found for the game so far.

I'm actually going to set it up on my dining room table. My cat doesn't get up there, and I currently don't have a girlfriend to complain about it.

I blame whoever wrote the GARPA article on Breaking the Chains a few weeks ago. I've been looking for a naval wargame that could be played solo for a while, and they happened to catch me when I had some extra money from taxes/bonus/overtime. I preordered that and bought Steel Wolves as an impulse at the same time. I was actually planning to do an AAR of me learning the game. I'm really looking forward to diving into it. Its been a long time since I've done any board gaming.

Well I have the Steam version install right now, but I bought it as a part of silent hunter complete pack last week on gamersgate for $7. So I'll need to uninstall and install that version so I can use mods. Appareantly the Steam verison cannot or is too much trouble for the subsim community to build mods for it.

I was blasting out 'American Woman' by 'Guess Who' in the car today - great track.
So I have it on good authority that Dark Souls is a very deep and enthralling RPG. Picked it up this after noon and will probably start it sometime this weekend. Supposedly when one starts playing this game they're never heard from again. Boys, if you don't hear from me within 24hrs, send in the marines. :)
Other than that I will play some Dom3, both SP and PBEM with my fellow Grogs. I plan on raking in some more cheevos off of Bioshock Infinite now that I've finished my first playthrough. I'm going for completing the 1999 mode next.
Finally there are one or two achievements I need to get from F1 Race Stars or Halo Wars. Haven't decided which and time probably won't allow it anyway...
P.S. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm an achievement whore. But I like it.

I've been getting back into CMSF this week and will probably play that and some Graviteam Tactics: Operation Hooper this weekend. If I feel particularly energetic I might try my hand at some scenario development for CMSF and mission creation for ARMA II.
I'm going all-in on ARMA2 this weekend with the Vietnam: The Experience mod, as well as vanilla and Iron Front. I very well may pick up the D-Day DLC as well.
I can't rule out Steel Beasts, either. I feel like all the hours in ARMA2 are starting to pay off.
Just ignore your Steam pop-ups that tell you I'm playing Chivalry or other inane nonsense.

I got my copy of Diablo III working again after it was nerfed sometime last year...it's patched too and I did not lose my avatar or my place in the game. Hmm so now I have to choose...Diablo or Skyrim...
Not sure what i am going to play this weekend...just finished Commander: The Great War with the Central Powers....defeated Russia, France and Italy...for GB it would have taken a lot of time as i was just building up some new naval forces when the game ended but i was pushing in the Sinaï...

Depends on your mood. When I just want to mindlessly kill undead/demons I play Diablo. When I want something a little more involved I play Skyrim. Of course CK2 is always a good choice as well.... :o

I've spent the past few hours playing WarCraft: Orcs & Humans (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/warcraft-orcs-humans) and Conquered Kingdoms (http://www.mobygames.com/game/conquered-kingdoms). Despite the games being 19 and 21 years old respectively, I still enjoy playing both of them.

But what really happened? Tried out lots of things in CLOD: shooting down Stukas, ME110s, Me109s,and more Donier-17s.
Everything is working so I will be installing the Fusion Group's mod, working on Complex engine managment (and maybe even prop pitch since I read about a pilot who kept his two-pitch, two blade Hurricane and burned out 9 engines in 10 days in France while shooting down a reasonable number of Me110s and so forth...he somehow got better speed at low levels, but maybe he would have done just as well with a better prop pitch and/or prop).
And I might even go online, since I figure I'll get shot down so fast that it won't be a big time investment.
I ended up playing some Glory of the Roman Empire...working on Colonia Claudia...
I ended up playing Sword of the Stars : The Pit after buying it on a whim. Fun little game, actually.
