Title: Skyrim - Real Estate
Post by: PanzersEast on April 22, 2013, 12:42:08 PM
Now that I have a proper pc, I have been putting a lot of time into Skyrim and heavily modded this time around (never finished the first time around).  I now have 50+ mods and my favorite have been the player modded locations/estates.  Here is a list I have found excellent most of you may have already used these...

1. Legend of the Eagles Nest
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34834 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34834)
Probably my favorite player made home of all the downloads I have.  To gain access to this location you have to complete a short quest and it will cost you around 10,000 to add all the components to the home.  It has a nice backstory and is located at the summit of a mountain between Riverwood and Whiterun.  It comes complete with a stewart, guard, livestock, and mine.  The only downside I can find with this location is that the majority of the mannequin are outside as well as the forge... which is ok but odd as the snow and wind blow in.

2. Sutvaka Fortified Estate
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33473 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33473)
This is a close second to the Eagles Nest as it comes complete with a barracks and small garrison, draw bridge and gate.  The Estate is located near shearpoint between Whiterun and Windhelm.  As you enter the grounds you are greeted by your dog and a guard patrolling the grounds.  There are hidden passages, a prison ( and a nice flow to the estate.  Located on the grounds are 5 servants, a hunter, gardener, lumberjack and 2 miners, and 3 guards There is not a quest to acquire the estate.

3. Bluecreek Estate
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22496 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22496)
Another great Estate, however this one is big but pricey.  It is both quest and price driven and depending on your speech skill the price will vary.  It comes complete with a gold mine that produces income for you and comes with 5 servants, a hunter, gardener, lumberjack, 2 miners, and 3 guards. The estate sits on the north-eastern banks of lake Ilinalta, in the Falkreath hold.  The Estate can cost you upwards of 50,000+ so be prepared before going to seek the purchase of the Estate.

4. Ranger Ridge
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9904 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9904)
This home is small compared to the others, however it is conveniently located just at the crossroads from Whiterun to Riverwood.  It has plenty of storage and a hidden passage with storage for weapons and armor. The passage also leads to a secret cave and a forge on the mountain ledge behind the house.  There is a quest you must complete to gain the home.

I have many more but these are a couple of my favorite I have used thus far.  Greets from Skyrim

None of them do.... I have added many of these in my current game and they will only break your game if you use another mod that is using the same map mesh area... so far I have had no issues and I have added about 12 or so areas.  The above all play nice together and with your current game.

I saw the Legend of the Eagles Nest on the nexus home page the other day. I downloaded it but haven't activated it yet.

So far, my favorite player home mod is the Halls of Dovahndor. Its a huge player home located in Sovngarde.

The ones that generally break games in progress are ones that change things like perks, enemy AI, etc. Its also not good to uninstall these types of mods mid game, because that can definitely break a game. Its not that you can't uninstall these type of mods, but read any directions very carefully as they usually require the use of the console or the MCM menu to stop any scripts these mods need to run.

Most mods, including new armor, weapons, retextures, player homes, etc can be installed/uninstalled any time without fear of breaking a save.

This is troubling to me. I don't know if my brain can handle so much more potential content for a game that is so heavily laden with content already! Damn you all.

^Are all of those 'house mods' or do they do different things? It looks like there are almost more Skyrim mods than Civ V mods...that's a lot.

Those are house and town mods.  Most are ownable some are towns.  A lot add quest and other perks.  All together I have a lot of mods and will post them all.  I like all the added places, especially some of the inns and towns but most are ownable homes..

Do these mods work with the base game or do they require you to have some of the expansions?

Someday when Skyrim is back on sale at Steam or Gamersgate (whichever works better with mods), I'm going to rebuy it for my PC (already put 250+ on it for PS3, thanks to my brother's birthday gift a couple of years ago) and mod it up to try playing a far more magically themed character. Originally intended that with my first game, but well I turned out to be a sneaky double-mace archery tank. :) Barely any magic at all.

Threads like this help remind me.  :D

Does it add Lantern Ring powers to Skyrim?

Because if not, no.  ;D

It adds lanterns to Skyrim to make it more atmospheric...

This mod adds lanterns to main roads, villages, towns and settlements. To avoid immersion breaking I haven't placed tons of lanterns like "Christmas holidays lighting" in villages or like "Highways lighting" for main roads; way far from it.

Two mods I have settled on for testing together after reading through the documentation are:

Immersive Patrols
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12977 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12977)

+

OBIS - Organized Bandits In Skyrim
http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31264 (http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31264)

I have to scroll for days to go through all my stuff  ;)  Can't pack enough immersion in!

I believe the two above mods should work together and give the same effect as the other mods and give it the random battles and patrols that will help populate skyrim and make travel a interesting ordeal.  I read that Warzones still has a lot of bugs and the two mods above appear to be light-weight in terms of footprint to the game.  Sands of Time looks very interesting, however I do not own the DLC needed (will purchase the next sale).  The other two appear to be ok, but it appears the two mods above take care of the same thing.

One more...

I have this in the waiting bin and going to install as well....

One mod I have found really useful without cheating is the Bandolier - Bags and Pouches http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16438 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16438) ... really cool mod that will extend your carry weight capacity and also see it visually.

I had a lot (read save corrupting) problems with Warzones.  It also tended to bring my game to a crawl.

WarZones
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9494 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9494)

I used to use WarZones, but haven't installed it for my last 2-43 play throughs. I found a lot of the battles to be very inconveniently placed when I was in the mood to just quest and not participate in them. Its really fun when you combine it with the Ultimate Follower Overhaul and Convenient Horses mods, its about the closest I've been able to come to Mount and Blade in Skyrim.

Immersive patrols is also really good. It's battles feels more dynamic then WarZones, but battles are more infrequent since they only occur when two patrols of opposing factions meet. They also attack the bandit/necromancer forts, which is something WarZones doesn't do. Either way, you can't go wrong with playing with either of them, and their compatible if you want to try both.
