VICTORIA - A U.S. fishing boat has collided with a Canadian navy ship docked at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, near Victoria.
The B.C. Ambulance Service says six people were taken to Victoria General Hospital with minor injuries.
The collision involved the Seattle-based fishing trawler American Dynasty and the HMCS Winnipeg.

The accident appeared to leave the bow of the fishing boat embedded in the forward side of the Canadian frigate.
It's not immediately know what led to the collision.

Were there storms or something? I know accidents happen, but typically you need to be drinking and have a Russian mistress aboard the bridge to manage this kind of ineptitude.

Damn! I was imagining some little trawler, not that industrial-sized fishing boat. How the hell did they manage that? And where were the harbor tugs for a ship that size?
That fishing vessel sure could stand a good paint job.
Even if the Canadian ship was not docked, we have an agreement that our military ships have the right of way. US or Canadian.
Factory ship? Catch and can? The staff will be canned. ha.
Sometimes when nature calls, the steersman will make a head call, leaving the ship on Iron Mike.
Sometimes nature screams.
I cant think of a more unlucky navy then the RCN.
That definitely has to be one of those factory ships. I considered working on one while in college for a summer for the promise of $10k. But there was also the risk of losing limbs.
FWIW that really doesnt look like much damage at all.
Im actually more surprised the RCN has frigates and that it didnt catch fire. :o

For fire only, not collision. ;D
The RCN couldn't get fire insurance, the premiums were too high.
From the looks of that video, someone on that fishing vessel was literally at asleep at the wheel.
Or was having a seizure, getting a hummer, etc.
Maybe you Canadians called...

from reading some articles the tug that was assisting the ship may have screwed up.
Yeah, it either screwed-up or got out of the way.

From watching that video it looks like the crew were not at their stations or asleep. The velocity seems fairly constant up to the collision. There is no tug visible on the port side whatever the article says.
Scenario 1 the crew left leaving a tug to direct the boat. The tug screwed off for some reason. The crew screwed off for some reason like checking the catch.
Scenario 2 there is no tug. The crew is drunk, asleep or absent.
