I have been waiting for a good remake of Soldiers at war a game from SSI? from 1998. Single soldier team based.
Would the Jagged alliance games scratch the itch?
I have no idea, but Jagged Alliance 2 (and maybe 1) ranks up with the original X-Com. Many attempts at trying to remake or update it, generally with failure. The new "Back In Action" version of JA kind of succeeds.
In other words, you should own JA2 anyway. :)
I've heard that Silent Storm (http://www.gog.com/gamecard/silent_storm_gold) is a good option. I have it but haven't played it yet. I LOVED Soldiers at War and would love to see a remake or at least gog.com make it work again.
I've always wondered why there were so few wargames on GOG. They can't be that unpopular, can they?

They recently added The Great Battles Collection, so things have been looking up. That's (literally) an old-school hex wargame.
That is good news Nefaro. I know many of us have been waiting for games like Norm Koger's Age of Rifles and Tanks!, the V For Victory series, Civil War Generals, etc. Maybe the owners of the rights just don't want to cooperate.
I once posted on GOG's forum asking why some of these games weren't showing up on GOG. I was told they didn't like "begging" on their forums. I didn't know I was, but of course if it would do any good....
