Better strap on your tin foil hats.

The largest solar storm in five years is racing toward Earth, threatening to unleash a torrent of charged particles that could disrupt power grids, GPS and airplane flights.
[/size]
The sun erupted Tuesday evening, and the effects should start smacking Earth between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST Thursday, according to forecasters at the federal government's Space Weather Prediction Center. They say the storm, which started with a massive solar flare, is growing as it speeds outward from the sun."

Biggest storm in five years? I barely survived the last one.
This time I'll be better prepared. I'll line my hat with kitty litter!
Forget the hats, time to start foil lining my undies... :P

That's a top-drawer suggestion as well!
I'll go get my sun block and parasol.
I'm just going to stand behind my mother-in-law. I'll be safe - she is so big she has her own gravity and eclipse schedule.
<chuckle>

mostly charged particles...... not UV radiation
So far so good...but expect worse to come since the current cycle of solar activity is due to peak in 2013.

OK Breezy so I'll get my radiation suit, slather myself in lead based paint and carry the parasol just because it's fashionable.

sounds good.... i am surprised that the Preppers on this forum haven't started saying stuff like
this could be the one - get you bug-out bag ready
buy gold because the banking system is going down with the satellite system
They probably figured they didn't have time and just bugged out !
So far the only result I see from this solar storm is a tingling in my loins. And that's always there.

Carries a parasol. Check.
Loins tingle. Check.
Sounds like the only thing Windy needs to prep for is condoms.

He is a gentleman, he prefers Aveeno men (run LB... run)
^What about the lead-based paint? Or is that lead-based taint? Nevermind.

That's probably a no-go. Windy will want to protect the environment.
That said, if you can shower it off, you'll get points for bringing lambskin!
*shudder*
A cell phone call between me and my dad today got zapped - possibly due to this storm. We couldn't reach each other for a couple of minutes, then it was crystal clear.
I would chalk that up to evil demons about to eat your face first.

I only got the idea because the TV news was showing a caption about how it could interrupt cell phone service at almost the exact moment we were having a problem.
Then again, some folks around here would probably rather believe Fox News was responsible than a solar flare...
No invisible demons?
I blame Putin - that Monkey lovin' SOB
Don't make me post that pic again.
Of course you don't see any LB. But they're there. Looking at your face like it's a menu.

He probably rode through our signal on his magical flying cracker.

Gents, check for Aurora! This morning the planetary K index just reached 7
(which gives a 50% chance for Aurora sightings for a latitude comparable down to middle Germany... Sigh!, of course not in daylight, i hope the storm continues to the eve)
