I'll give it a look. Though I am quite fed up with Zombies, "Survival" and "Crafting".
Mix of FPS, minecraft, and zombies?
Certainly looks interesting but I am still not sure how I feel about "fast" zombies.
I am really looking forward to this - to the point that I have preordered to get the alpha. If this is as good as it plans to be this could be the best game ever made. Looking at some of the videos of people already playing, it looks fun already, despite the fact there is still a lot to add. Usually kickstarter projects are so far away from delivering anything that I wait, but this just looks too good to miss! I can't wait to set up my own fortress from which I can fight off the zombie hordes. :D
"Nukiller attacks" oh my GOD is the word really so difficult to pronounce?!

Fast zombies are not zombies. End of story.
Having said all that, the game looks like it's worth keeping an eye on.
Looks like Minecraft only with real graphics! ;D
The thing I like is the threat - in Minecraft you had to really go looking for danger once you had a house. Here the threat is real, and just going indoors is not enough- they will break down doors / dig underground to get at you. Whether they are zombies or not imho is not important - what is important is that they seem from the videos of the game that I have watched to be a genuine threat.

And real
zombies creepers!
Don't worry, Huw, I bet there will be a mod or a control to make them walk reaaally slow all the time, so they'll be real zombies. :P
I'm getting a "403: Forbidden" message when pursuing the original link in the OP. :o

So the Alpha 1 is out.
Anyone knows how to reload (R doesn't seem to work for me)?
And how to eat the food and drink the water?
And how to use the bedroll I crafted to sleep?
:P

I was shocked about fast zombies in DayZ.
But after watching World War Z. I beginning to accept fast zombies.
Dawn of the Dead (2004) had fast zombies in it as well. I could buy into fast zombies in the first hour or so of their death, but bodies decay rapidly. I HATE seeing movies or TV shows when they move a body that's been laying there and it's all limp with no rigor mortis. (I was a paramedic for a few years, it makes me laugh to see that kind of nonsense.) Plus it's just a movie, so they can move fast...because they can?
I was never really into zombie movies except maybe Return of the Living Dead. "Send more cops!"
^Actually I believe the line was "Send more paramedics" (nom-nom-nom)... :D
True, that line is in there as well:
But so is the 'cops' line:
Ah, I stand corrected. It's been a very long time since I saw that flick. Like 25 years or so...
I'm signed up for alpha access so I am looking forward to my key being sent out which should be in the next few daus - I have high hopes for this one. Anyone else paid for this?

No worries. I'm weird; I've seen this one probably 50 times, but I'm generally not a zombie movie fan. I love the humor in this one, though.

I love the Michael Jackson zombie in 2. That one never gets old ;D

My favorite aspect of that movie is that it is a chemical fog made from Marijuana that creates the zombies! Although... I suppose Marijuana CAN create living zombies... ;)
Ross, keep us updated. I have FAR too many alpha-access games at the moment and I've sworn to not support another one until some of the others finish.
Well, my first impressions are that this is tough to just pick up and succeed in. I have now died several times, having spawned in the middle of nowhere, without a weapon, you then have to scavenge for food water equipment etc. The problem is, the places where the more interesting loot is seem to attract more zombies. I have only managed to find a weapon once in about seven deaths, and that had very little ammo. Once the night comes you are done for unless you have a good location and weaponry. I am going to have to look for some tips, as I am nowhere near getting something sorted out by nightfall. The problem is, if you die at night, there's not a lot of point in respawning as you will just get mobbed as soon as you dawn.
It is atmospheric and quite scary as you feel very vulnerable, but I am not having enough success at the moment to feel like I am having fun.
I played it for a few hours today. Besides throwing a few bucks toward certain Kickstarter projects, I've never paid cash for an alpha before and there is not enough game there so far to justify doing so. Actually, besides my love of anything zombie, I'm not sure why I didn't wait and spend the money on beer and pizza. Oh well....
There is a game in there waiting to be found, but it's not all that playable or fun so far. Scavenge, find a hidey-hole and try to reinforce it, craft what you can throw together, kill zombies. Zombies are slow in the daylight but deadly at night, so your nights will be spent huddled down, which makes for rather meehhhh gameplay. And I won't even go into the bugs or issues, like having all your firearms disappear when you log back on. I have to keep repeating, "it's only an alpha, it's only an alpha".....
This could turn into a decent game, but I recommend waiting for the actual, you know....game. It's not here yet.
Hmmmm.....well, I'll be darned. I stuck with it for the last two days, did some digging and discovered that there is indeed a game in there. I managed to survive nine days before getting caught too far from my hidey-hole and the zeds overran my last minute, thrown together defenses (stakes in the ground and a mountainside to my back).
I'm starting to get a feel for the game. Some of the things I thought were glitches (like losing whatever you are holding when you die) are design choices, but stuff in your backpack or stuff you have hidden are still there for you. The game in a nutshell is scavenge during the daylight, hold up in a secure location at night, reinforce your hideout during the day with stuff you've found and crafted, and keep yourself in food and drink. There aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish everything you want to do, and your only goal (so far) is survival.
So....I'm not regretting spending money on this game, it has potential, but it's clearly an alpha and I can't guess yet if the finished product will live up to the cost. There is no social aspect whatsoever, you are apparently the last living person on earth, so no gathering other survivors ( wait for Dead State for that!) or dodging other scavengers. Strictly Lone Wolf McSteelie. But there's an inbuilt tension to surviving, to scavenging, to trying to get enough done to stay alive another night as the sun inches ever closer to the horizon. I'm entertained, for the moment at least.
$35 ..... seems like alot. Keep the info and impressions coming. I also like anything zombie....well almost.
Yeah, I'm still kinda kicking myself for spending that much....but not quite as hard as I was before. I was caught at a weak moment, looking for some zombie love, waiting for Dead State, waiting for the next season of The Walking Dead, and tired of playing Left for Dead 8) We'll see how I feel when the game is 100%.
There are plans to add safehouses / npcs etc to the world - see the stretch targets at the bottom of this page for planned additions - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7daystodie/7-days-to-die-zombie-survival-game . Steelgrave - have you got any tips for survival? I have been pretty rubbish so far!

That's good information! I hadn't checked the actual kickstarter page out yet. As for survival, my formula so far has been to gather wood and make lots of stakes the first day, then take the high ground on top of a three story building, closing all approaches behind you with stakes. Drop your sleeping bag so you respawn there, craft ladders and torches asap (torches slow them down, ladders allow you to create your own entrance/exit), then scavenge and craft like mad come daylight. And once you start accumulating lots of stuff/crafting material, you can use the boxes/containers in your safehouse to store materials so that when you go out scavenging you have room for more stuff. There is a large capacity container you can craft as well. This site http://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Crafting (http://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Crafting) will give you some ideas for what can be made.
BTW, the zombies
will destroy walls and stairwells, so without a ladder, sooner or later you will have no way to return to your hideyhole. I'm on the third floor of a farmhouse, and the two floors below are a shambles. Anyway, that's how my desperate, unshaven and harried survivor has lasted so far. One day at a time, brother.
This game has been on Steam for a few weeks now and is currently in Alpha Version 6.1. Beta is closing in fast. I have played the game with increasing frequency since this was first posted here. And my initial "meh" impression....has totally turned around.
7 Days has been compared to Minecraft with zombies and I wouldn't disagree. It's equal parts survival/horror/crafting with an ever growing spooky atmosphere. Surviving is a challenge. One day your plans may change because you are low on water, another day you may need to go dig up sand to make glass or concrete. One night with the full moon shining and zombies gathering, you might discover that your carefully built shelter has a fatal flaw....you're low on ammo and considering if you should run for it or try to make a stand.
Now, note that I said the game is still in Alpha. I'm not recommending anyone run out and buy it yet. But if you love zombies, keep it on your radar. It's already quite playable, moreso with every patch. They've added lots of options, such as keeping zombies slow if you prefer, and it can be a real struggle to survive. There is multiplayer, but true to form I've only played it solo. If you play solo, you will be the only living person in your world....NPC's are coming, but they're not up yet.
BTW....there are several negative comments on Steam which amount to "this is an Alpha, why does it cost so much". Well....because it's not always going to be an alpha. Don't be put off by the kids who have played the game for 30 minutes and decide to post a negative review. I've got at least a couple hundred hours invested in the game so far and I'm looking forward to Beta.
Like I said...keep it on your radar.
thanks for the update, like me some zombie action. I'm also keeping an eye on Dayz stand alone and Rust. don't think i could run Dayz on my machine very well. Rust is in alpha also and looks promising. It's only January and my resolve to not buy any more games until the fall sale is weakening.....must be strong and clear some of my backlog.
Here's a link to a Rust vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2i_G3tPj-U&list=PLGB6RkFB7ZmOhd4KU8LHegiGcBYPAfSu6&index=1

Yea i know..... me like shiny new things ;D ...... wasn't no rush for the dozens of other games i own, either. 8)
Aphla 7 is out and a patch to 7.1
I've put a few hours in and this build is more to my liking for sure, its a big one.
Stealth is in, timers, smooth terrain and looks like alot of new terrain models. Stealth is really the game changer, no more GPS zombies and you can actually get through the night without a shelter. I'm on day 3 and still haven't been able to build anything. Everything you do gives off sound waves as reflected on your mini map, there are 3 levels of detection: undetected, sensed, hunted, when you crouch and uncrouch you can see a message about your detection state. Icons on the minimap are color coded and different things in the world are different colors on the minimap, green for zombies, white for dogs, and there's a yellow one i haven't identified yet. When they go red they are hunting you and your in deep shit, you can now run and hide to lose them. there are timers and sound waves for everything you do. Searching different things take various amounts of time so far of the things i've searched the safe takes the longest at 30 seconds, crafting is the same various time to craft things. You can close out while crafting and keep moving. When your searching and waiting for that timer to run down and you have zombies that have sensed you because of the sound looking for you it defiantly gives you more of a survival feeling, if they get to close you can abort the search and run. One thing that is bothersome is that while your searching you can't look around, i'm guessing that will change. Alot of people were complaining bout the timers, i like them. Searching should take time and it forces you to make a choice, i need stuff but is it worth it to alert the zombies, dogs ect. Hence the 7.1 patch all things are settings in the option menu. Don't like the timers for searching and crafting turn them off. You can set zombie spawn levels also and what you drop when you die i.e. everything[what i use] untility belt stuff or backpack. You can set the zombies chase time too that helps if you run and can get enough distance between they will revert to a less hostile state instead of hunting you forever. I play with the drop everything on death so the first thing i do on respawn is go back for my backpack that now drops. I don't know if its a timed drop or not as i have managed to get it back every time soon after respawn. It was fun in my weakened state to stalk up on my backpack and throw rocks to lure the zombies away so i could get it back. It just feels more survival like right now. I spawned in the desert and you only have 1 water and 1 food item when you start. After a over a day of not finding any food and food meter at the bottom i decided to hell with it and used my shotgun to shoot a rabbit, which of course alerted the zombies so i got my rabbit and ran like hell and had some grilled rabbit over a fire that night. Drinking river water affects your health now in a negative way. I cant tell you about crafting with a forge yet because i don't have a safe place to craft yet. There are some irritating issues, the console pops up out of the blue when you attempt to do stuff, i was shooting a dog and it popped up and i died. Zombie spawning is better but they can still spawn in on you without showing on the map first. I have to say this version is alot better at giving you that survival feeling, there are other smaller issues as is always the case with an alpha but it's alot more fun now then it used to be. If this type of game is your thing, take a look as the timers and stealth thing changes the game alot.
Here comes the night
