See that Xenonauts is now available on Steam for Beta access..... as much as I liked X-Com EU, I got bored with it. I have been watching its progress and will probably pick this one up.

Already like this more than X-Com EU.... I can see myself dropping X-com and switching to this solely for my fix. Although the maps are not dynamic, there are already 100+ user mand maps so this should never get old. The graphics are good and the layouts I like. I feel like I have more direct control over what happens and the gameplay is great.

Thannks PE. Have my eye on this one. I liked EU but didn't like how it pushed the story missions down your throat at times. Is Xenonauts more sandbox or more of the same from EU? I don't mind story missions I just want to be able to do them on my timeline not the games.
It has a sandbox feel with being linear, what I mean is that the end is linear, however how you get there all depends upon you. The short time looking at it, I feel I have a lot more control on what direction I proceed, instead of a story telling me how to.... so I make the story. You can open up additional bases, train troops, purchase more scientist etc.... I
think the air-air battles are still abstract but handled better in Xenonauts.
There are a lot of trolls on the Steam forums about the graphics etc... the graphics are meant to be around the Cold War era, so they work well. The game is still in beta, so there are the odd AI mechanics but they are being worked out. So far I feel it has been better value for my money than X-Com EU. I will say it is not a complete game, but so far I am happy with what I see thus far. I'll post more back later.

I really hope this game is good and has a creditable AI. I have been looking for a good, new, X-Com forever.

I believe in the end it will be, however there are things to iron out. It is the closest we have come since the original for sure. I believe it will get there and already has a large community behind it.

I appreciate your update. I'm going to wait for the "official real release" version to hopefully avoid being disappointed.
On a happy note - this does not look like vaporware.

I think it will be released now, however it has been a long road and I did not decide to purchase until it was available on Steam. I'll post back once some more updates have been released and maybe do a brief AAR. I would hold off if you are unsure at this point, no need to really jump in.

I jumped, despite not being ready to play it soon.
This thing seems to have been in development for ages. Like six or seven years since I first heard about it. Surely it's getting close to being done! ;D
I bought it when it hit Steam. And I find it very xcom like and therefore like it :)
My last mission was a night mission in the early game, lost 4 men.... Hard and unforgiven, like the old game...
The graphic imho is awsome and you people on the fence should try the demo which is soon to be released ;)

I like the graphics... I actually think the hand drawn graphics is a nice change. There are small touches I like (most would think silly), but the animation on the main screen when you click options takes you to the view of yourself holding a clipboard in hand.
It is a very unforgiven game for sure... try making your way to a downed scout ship in the desert with no cover :-P.... not a fun ride home. I am getting further in the game and there are some needs for the alien ai behavior as they just wig out sometimes. The artwork is well done and I noticed that the item descriptive information pertaining to research items are missing as some other minor things.

I instantly wishlisted this on Steam, so I'm registering for comment tracking here. (I've already spent way too much game money recently to help them out on beta; I haven't even touched Mechwarrior Tactics since signing in on the closed beta.)
This is the 1960s XCom game that we thought the recent XCOMEU was going to be. Not that I'm unhappy about what we got, but it's still kind-of X-comlite with plenty of entertaining frosting.
Of course there's always OpenXCom; I dl'd that a few weeks ago and was very impressed. Always a work in progress, but a work of interested love will actually progress.
Well - I bought this on desura way back. Havent played it much - but from what I have seen if they ever get it done then personally I think it will be better than the original. I like the graphics so not sure why some have issue with them.
