Now in development!
Supposed to have been in development for quite some time (probably several years). Not much info at this point, but stay tuned!

I'm torn between wanting to say "sweet!" and "dang it" at the same time...
According to the few betatesters, UI is one of the things they're improving along with a facelift to all the unit sprites. I'm waiting to hear more about what they did with the existing nations; will it still be three distinct ages or do they have a new mechanic to add variety and flavour to the nations. I guess the subtitle "Thrones of Ascension" might have a clue in it.
Can't bother to find the proper meme-pic so I'll just say it instead:
"SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" ;D

They could hardly make the UI any worse! :D
This is splendid news. I'm in!
I guess they managed to start making some money after finally getting out from under Shrapnel games mummified thumb.
This comes as no surprise to me at all; but everyone should still go vote Greenlight for Dom3 at Steam and leave a comment. :)

In all ways, that looks to be the case. Hell.. I see their older Dominion titles are even on sale now on Desura. ??? They obviously had a big influx after spreading the joy.
Hopefully it doesn't take another four years for Dom4 to see the light of day. :D

Just go like this Martok: "Sweet, dang it, sweet!" its easy. I have soooo many games I do not know why I get excited all the time.
Something like girls I guess.

I showed my support by voting yes on Steam for Dom3. ;)
Dominions 3 isn't doing too well in Greenlight and I'm not really that surprised. The video they have up there is just simply horrible -- it doesn't really highlight any of the cool stuff about the game or even explain the game, or anything really, and is generally quite confusing. They might know how to make a great strategy game but they sure as hell are lousy marketers. I hope Dominions 4 doesn't suffer from this same curse. Even a little bit of effort put into presenting the game to new players would go a long way.
Faux, after reading your post I went to take a look at the videos myself. You're not wrong. The first video is like watching someone play who's just going about his business and will leave newbies completely puzzled. The second video is a half-hour "let's play" which doesn't actually show any gameplay! Rubbish.
That is great news. Thanks!
I saw somewhere that Dom 4 was going be a F2P on-line game, where you buy slots for pretenders and new races. Anyone know if this is true or have more info?

From what is sounds like, it may have already been in production for four years at the moment. Quarter2Three has a beta tester talking and I swear he was discussing changes made from 2008!
This news might get me off the hook from buying Dominions 3. I've been tempted with all the fuss about it here at GrogHeads. Now I can just say I am waiting for #4. :)

As cheap as Dom3 has been.. it's still a no-brainer. Who knows how long it'll be before #4 shows up and gets the extra bug workover.

That's what I was alluding to...
another four years. It seems like the increase in outlets & sales has lit the fire a bit so hopefully it won't be. :D

This was just a joke in the QT3 forums.

It's important to leave a comment, too; the Llamaserver guys sent out a note to the effect that Steam pays more attention to the number of (positive) comments than votes per se.

Bruce Geryk, the guy who wrote the manual for Dom3 said he has been working on the manual for Dom4 the past 6 months, so hopefully that means they are pretty far into the work.
The official site just got updated with some more juicy info.
- Teamplay, one pretender and one or more disciples per team.
- Thrones of Ascension. Claim thrones to gain extra powers and to win the game eventually.
- Many sprites have been redrawn and the 3d terrain is also improved.
- Many user interface improvements.
- Formations like line formation or skirmish formation.
- Improved random map generation with wraparound maps, caves, rivers and mountain passes.
- Rivers that can only be passed when frozen, mountain passes that can only be passed by special units and when it's warm.
- Pierce, slash and blunt weapons have slightly different quirks. E.g. don't shoot arrows at skeletons.
- Darkness and dark vision plays a more important role. Notably in deep seas, caves and sometimes during assassinations.
- Range restrictions on magic rituals and items and spells that can be used to boost ritual ranges.
- Improved network support, turns can be resumed from any computer and turns can be marked as only half finished.
- Global random events
- Can build castle improvements like extra towers or extra supply storage
- Province Defence dependent on the local population and some nations have easier or harder to organize it.
- Improvements to AI and to modding.
- Many new monsters, spells, magic items, sites, random events and some nations too.

These alone would make a sequel worthwhile.
I'm excited to see how they are going to implement teamplay -- it could make for some interesting multiplayer games. Sounds like the disciples are like different factions within a nation.
They've implemented some cool stuff from CoE3. Nice to see. This game is sounding awesome, but for once I can wait for it to come out; Dom3 will keep me going for ages!
^That's the beauty of Dom3. Such a deep game and each nation is radically different from the others that the replay value of Dom3 is excellent. Still looking very forward to Dom4 and this will definitely be a day one purchase no matter what the cost.
Probably no chance of a boxed copy though. :(
Yeah, it will take me until the end of this year just to not consider myself a complete noob any more. Then there are all the nations (and ages) to try! Crazy. We know we'll all buy Dom4 anyway though! :D
