I am an old school FPS gamer and I wanted to let as many people as possible know about this absolute monster of a game! Red Orchestra 2 didnt run very well on my older PC, so I did not investigate it much, but Its worth buying a PC for this game alone. its not an ordinary FPS, its realistic and a tactical shooter.
Red Orchestra 2: it was Game of the year for good reason! I started playing Multiplayer a couple of days ago, and with PCs being more powerfull now , the game ran like a dream, you still need a dedicated graphics card though!
This game is so Realistic, you get to dial in Range on the sights and scope, change barrels on HMGs, look through the iron sights on a scoped weapen for quick shots, and all with just a few buttons(realy good Training missions too)
the game has Bots aswell so Multiplayer gameing will go on forever :) I hope you will join in MP soon?
The game is the best FPS I've ever played, and now I'm running it on my new more powerfull(average win8) PC, its just to enjoyable by far.
its a must but for anybody, its on Gamersgate or steam
I read on Steam that if you buy Rising Storm you get Red Orchestra 2 for free with it. That is by far the better deal.
If you like RO2 you should love Rising Storm. It is seriously fun and a real time sink. The first time you light up a room full of enemies with a flamethrower, you can kiss the next 6 hours of your life goodbye. It's that addicting.
Most servers play Rising Storm maps more than RO2 now.
Thanks guys,I am playing the Rising storm maps, RO2 allows you to play as a rifleman on RS servers for free! the servers are together for both and allow you to play both even if you don't own both, and when you buy RS you get 25% if you own RO2, so its £12, or if you don't own RO2 its £15. compared to other FPS its a snip, and I'm sure its the most realistic FPS you will find. RS is a stand alone Expansion so you don't need RO2 to play.
Ive not played with flamethrowers yet but Ive been burned a few times :)
I have to say the RS maps are miles better than I expected! the game has been transformed.
That Japanese rifle is a freaking lazer.
I've been pretty much playing this non-stop the last 5 hours. Just had a session as an American heavy with 16 kills which felt nice.
If you get on a server with a decent Team Leader it's a transformative experience. Seriously. Just too much fun when you have someone to direct the fight.
I like the leaders voice sometimes too, but I also like the lone wolf hunt aswell . I see you can join squads but Ive yet to try one. the atmosphere of bombs dropping etc... is a nice effect like COD but in a more realistic environment, I been daised a few times. I like the samari swords aswell good fun.
Damn... you guys are really trying to push me into getting the expansion, aren't you?
And I don't even feel like playing a shooter right now! I just bought the Arma 2 Collection on the sale and haven't even bothered downloading it yet. And now this temptation! ;D
I finally got my Type 99 LMG up to lvl 50 and accquired a 2.5 scope for it. I really don't care for it at all. The disortion from the lenses gives you a weird fish eye effect when looking through the scope and makes accuracy difficult. When using the iron sights, the scope tube block out way too much of your FOV. Between the scope tube and the top feeding magazine, it's impossible to see anything coming from the right side of the MG.

But you gotta love that bayonet that you acquire form lvl 25. Makes an LMG a wonderful Banzai weapon.
Maybe it's just me but I found the LMG bayonet pretty useless. It seems to take 3 stabs to drop someone with it so it's only useful against Bots, AFK warriors, and geriatrics. Anyone else will just whirl around and give your skull the good news with a rifle butt.

As with all bayonets in RO2, you have to charge the bayonet ...That means the longer you hold the bayonet back the more likely the kill with one thrust.. If you just hit the button quickly, chances are good that you wont kill them and will suffer from it...
Did they clear up the issues they had at launch with RO2?
What issues in particular?
I've broken out of my shell and started playing squad leader more and tonight I just finished a match as most effective and highest scoring player for the match (360 points).
I tried to take a screenshot, but I guess it didn't capture.

Start calling arty and you will get a lot of kills.
Yeah, definitely, but I'm not sure I'm ready for the Team Lead role just yet. I don't know that I completely grasp the intricacies of the scoring system.
However, I'm finding that I'm not too bad as a Squad Leader. I seem to have a knack for getting into good defilade close to the objective and then popping some good smoke. When I get a good handful of spawns on me it works pretty well (or at least it was last night).
I can't believe how much fun I was having.
I've been playing RS as a rifleman from my RO2 , just bought the RS add on , so see ya there :)

I've got to many games to play right now :) but I look for the highest player and least bots servers. I love the game will play though, just not got much play in yet

Whatever's populated, Realistic or Classical mode, and low ping.
Lately I've just been mostly bot-farming though as I can't often find a decent server with more than 5-6 human players. That's fine. It lets me level up my weapons quickly.
Note, if you buy Rising Storm, it comes with Red Orchestra 2 FREE.
So, it's two games in one.
The opposite is not true if you buy RO2, however. So, my very, VERY strong recommendation is to pick Rising Storm up at this price. It is among my favorite games, and my "go to" game for Friday night beer drinking gaming.

Ouch. I thought there were a few regularly filled-up multiplayer servers running. You play during odd hours or is the ping an issue?
I've not fired up Rising Storm yet since I try to aim for primetime for multiplayer, and that doesn't always pan out. I figure if I try to play at odd hours, the populated servers will mostly be in Europe, with worse ping.

From what I understand, all you really need is
Rising Sun since it comes with RO2 (?).
Unless you wanna spend the extra money on the original RO series. Dunno if many ppl still play that, however.
I haven't had any trouble finding a populated Rising Storm, nor RO2 server yet. I'm not saying there are a lot, but I can always find one or two. On weekend evenings there are obviously a lot more (by a lot maybe 6-10 from which to choose).
Last night I played a mode I haven't seen before. I was playing RO2 on a server that was running a "campaign" mode. Basically there were about 10 provinces on a strategic map and each round was for control of the province. The goal was for one team or the other to capture the most provinces. The winner of a round got to choose the map for the next round, and victory levels from the previous round dictated force levels, who was on offense and defense, etc. Something like that, anyway.
It was pretty neat. It tied rounds together in a way I hadn't seen before, and it made victory and loss in a round more important.
I enjoyed it very much. I really highly recommend this game!
I don't know that I'd pick up RO1 though, even for $5. Just not much action there, and RO2 is better (IMHO).
They still haven't flushed out the campaign for RS though. Instead of using a map of the Pacific to select the next battle, it uses the map of Stalingrad from RO2 with German and Soviet control markers to represent the US and Japanese sides. "OK, so the tractor works is Iwo Jima?"
