That's Jim Rossignol's (of Rock Paper Shotgun infamy) game, eh?

Yup.
I knew you'd nibble on this thread :)
I really like his sense of humor and his use of fine 19th century millinery.
Beta comes out on the 19th Auguest - I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on this. Anyone been in the alpha? Any feedback? The scenery looks gorgeous but I have a small concern that the endless fetching and carrying could get tedious- especially as it would appear that if you are on any island apart from the central one, you have to transport the pieces of the machine back to the central island.
It looks odd to me but....an interesting kind of odd. If the price is right, I may have to give it a try.
I've got a request in for a preview. Not sure when I'll have access, but I'll keep you posted.
Personally, I think this kind of sneaker-shooter looks like my kind of fun. Can't wait for it.
It's $20 to preorder via the Humble store - see here : http://www.big-robot.com/
y'all did see the interview on the front page, right?

^Yep, that's what got my attention in the first place.

I started playing this last night. I haven't played a survival game in decades, so that part was interesting. For me the nutty, slightly creepy atmosphere was perfect. For an alpha it was very well-built I thought. Now I'm getting interested in other survival games. What about State of Decay? Has anyone played that?
PS -- Ooops -- State of Decay needs a controller these days though a mouse and keyboard version is supposedly coming out.
PPS -- Double-Ooops -- There are keyboard commands for State of Decay, but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea anyway

Note to self: I saw the Squire robot briefly last night as I was hurrying down to save the game at the boat landing. Reminded me of the Butcher in Diablo in 1996 or 1997. Comically disturbing in a slightly creepy way.
Just have to say I love this game's title. Small thing, but so many titles are just bland or completely unimaginative. It really seems to capture the slightly comic (love the faux-aristocratic formalism of the address "Sir," as though "your tea is served" is about to follow!) and sinister aspects of the game, as you were saying MengJiao.
Sir, I agree with you.

Sir, it is about as perfect a cultural object as one is likely to find in the world of survival games. And I say this as someone who actually got to say in public, before an audience of dozens, "Sir, are you a topologist?"....just seconds before my wife could say to me, "Good God, shut up! You're being insufferable!"
Ah, insufferable. The game is interesting as well, though tonight I'm blowing things up in a virtual Sicily of the Mind.
And Sir, you are being hunted is getting its sixth update tonight:
CHANGES
* NEW – Balloon spotlight can now be shot out. Repairs after X time.
* NEW - Industrial Biome
* NEW – Scarecrow enemy type
* NEW – Bog Creature enemy type
* Inventory/Loot window positions reversed.
* Scanner Range increased
* Loot tables reworked
* NEW – Loot items now have additional tooltip info. Items now colour-coded for quick reference.
* Deployable/Throwable items no longer appended with nonsensical "with x rounds" tooltip.
* Fires should now drop to terrain surface rather than appear buried or hovering...
Sirs, I would presume to posit a question, if you would be so noble as to reply.
Is this more of a sneaky shooter or is it more focused on collecting inventory junk and exploring spider holes with a lantern?
I like the idea of exploring holes with a lantern...we should make that game.
But not spider holes or Martok won't buy it. :)
(...reminds me I should ask him if he's ever gotten around to playing Skyrim yet, because that game is awesome -- and might as well be called "Exploring Spider Holes Without Even A Lantern". ;D )

It's definitely not a sneaky shooter by design, but you can sort of play it that way. I haven't played any games like this (ie survival games that can be played as sneaky shooters) in decades so I'm not sure what the expected ratio of sneaky to shooting is.
You do get traps (I haven't trapped any robots yet) and methods of distraction (rocks and alarm clocks and windup trains and so on) so cutting down on the robot population is definitely theoretically possible and there are axes and hatchets. So far I have only killed robots with dynamite and revolvers, but I just acquired a shot gun from a dead robot so we will see. There's not much ammo around so you have to pick your fights. You also have to find food and bandages and other items such as pliers (for the traps).
There are a lot of options. If you got really good with the ax, you might do very well. At the moment I feel the robot dogs are the greatest hazard: they are fast and hard to hit (and I don't have an ax or hatchet) and while they are chewing on you, you suffer the effects of being in a man trap (which is the same for robots)-- you can't shoot -- though you can weild an ax I've heard-- I need an ax.
So I think the basic strategies of the game are more in the sneaky inventory direction rather than the sneaky shooter direction.
I am intrigued by this game, which is saying something, because I can't stand stealth games (Thief, et al). I prefer dealing with my (in-game) issues with the profuse application of automatic weaponry or large, blunt objects.
Puzzles are good, though, and figuring out things like traps sounds enjoyable.

It's a stealth game and survival isn't easy. The frustration level could be high for those who get frustrated. I don't usually (as in really almost never) play stealthy survival games, but this one at least has robots instead of zombies.
But note -- I have read the Wiki on the game and watched U-tube to get most of my information about the game -- for example there is an important subsystem about cooking that I haven't attempted and a whole overall plot about finding device fragments that I'm not worrying about at the moment. So there's not much that I found particularly intuitive and there's no tutorial in the game. So again -- for those who get frustrated -- all that can be frustrating, I imagine.
If you don't have patience then this is not the game for you.... it requires a lot of patience and can be slow at times. I would wait until it is fully released to see how it turns out as there is still a lot of content being added. I have really enjoyed playing it and can be pretty intense at times..... and really slow at others. As you get closer to winning the game, the difficulty really begins to ramp up... I haven't played in a while and I am going to wait until the release and I have been happy with my purchase thus far.

I'm with you there, BC. I could well be tempted by this game.
You know, this game is starting to intrigue me, too. I think I'll buy it this weekend and give it a try.

Thanks. I was hoping it had more sneaky inventory management.
I think this game was misnamed. It should be "Sir, you are getting your ass kicked!"
My longest survival time is 15 minutes. :)

Here's the media MengJiao mentioned, promoting the new update. (Note that RPS authors are involved in the game design, which they modestly joke about in the article.)
little bump since it's currently 50% off on steam til the 25th. tempted to get it now but have so many games and the thanksgiving sales are only a month away!
Worth it for sure at that price.... I paid more. Playable now.....

I got my butt kicked collecting the first when a bot spawned about 100 feet from me after I loaded the first stone into the monolith.
I reloaded and got past that, but then got killed after I managed to just take the second one.
Hopefully they're making this difficult now to test the AI of the bots.
Or maybe the strategy is to not immediately head back to the monolith after you get something. Perhaps that's too obvious?
