I realy am a game hungry guy, when I get money I buy games, my fav games are wargames, matrix do the best wargames, but I have a bad time getting my downloads because my antivirus nortan deletes them , I recently bought one with kaspersky and could not get the game attall, I had to get another old computer with poor security to download it.
the thing is I use my computer to shop for games online, so I cant stop my security software just for a game
If it was easy to buy and download, like gate or gog, I would probably buy all matrix games titles, really I would, but Ive had such a bad time I just dont buy unless I really have to have the game and I am prepared to figure a way through it. if it was easy I would buy every week I think. Matrix are missing out on sales.
Im posting this post to ask for a better download system from matrix, and for tips on how everybody downloads their games.
I heard you can get a download manager to bypass security, but I think too many connections will block your download and you will need to contact matrix for more attemps. maybe matrix could provide a download manager for purchase, rather than a 3rd party unsecure reference.
Im not complaneing about matrix the games are so good, Im just wishing for a way I can securly and easily buy from them, I spend months in-between buying a game from them.
I use AVG free edition, I download from Matrix as and when and have no problems, I also shop online and 'touch wood' have never had any problems. Problem lies these days with folks linking things on sites, like you put an Amazon order in and click like for Facebook, or see a video and share to another site, once that starts then I have noticed with other folk that things go a tad wonky. The other thing is Norton and Kaspersky are just pure overkill, they have more hooks than an angling contest put into your system and can cause all sorts of problems, just try Googling for 'how to uninstall Norton' and you will be quite taken back at the results, it is a nightmare, I am all for being as safe as possible online but it is a very fine line you tread between too much security and not enough, too much and the system is pretty much useless for general use, too little and you end up with malware or trojans. I think it really is down to the tech level of the user, if they have a good grasp of systems and what does what it does make it a little easier to gauge what is good and what is not, most folks that use Norton do so because it is the most promoted and does everything for you but to me it is like trying to shoot a fly with a howitzer. AVG does what I need it to, I have a Yahoo e-mail account to avoid Outlook, Photobucket for images and Mediafire for files, all three are checked for viruses on up and downloading and just as important all are free accounts.

Thanks Darkspire, I tried using AVG, but on install was warned not to install if I shopped online, I hear what you say and your making sence, but gate and gog and steam all work with nortan and Kaspersky and Im safe and secure.
A really easy thing would be to have a link to a zip file , antivirus would let me download zips.

Me neither....been using Norton forever and have zero issues with this company or any others.

Yep. Deleting Norton will be like doubling your RAM. Get rid of it.
I've never had a problem with any antivirus program interfering with downloading/installing games; you must be doing something weird with your setup. And temporarily deactivating them while you download or install a game is perfectly OK as long as you don't do anything else with your PC while it's working. If you're really paranoid, physically unplug your network cable while the game installs.
Also, consider switching to Linux; you won't have to run antivirus programs at all, and the games market is exploding. ;)

Most people like the DRM by Matrix because it only requires a serial number. I never had the problem you are describing but I do have troubles downloading from Battlefront (using AVG internet suite).
Maybe my solution can help you : I download the files to a file directory on my HD. I told my AV to exclude this directory from my planned scans and from my 'resident shield' scans (I don't know how other software calls this but it is the realtime protection stuff).
This lets me download the files without them being deleted.
Then I install them into a game folder that I also have to exclude from every form of scanning.
It works but it leaves me with an uncomfortable feeling that large parts of my HD never get scanned for viruses.
If you want to download zip files I think you can rename the files you download (save as instead of save function) and use the extention zip (eg forgeoffreedomsetup.exe would be saved as forgeoffreedomsetup.zip). This leaves a fake zip file on your drive. If you want to install the game you can only do so by renaming it to .exe again what could trigger your AV again.
Most AV software have a trial period. You could install this trial to find out if you still have those problems before giving them the money you could be spending on games.

This is the best tip on how to get the file Ive ever seen, I know exactly what you mean, I dont know if I can exclude a folder I am off to try now, and I hope the link on the download gives me the option to save as, but I will try that . Thankyou you may have solved my long-time problem

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Zonealarm on my Winbox. MSE is one of the few things that I'll grudgingly praise Microsoft for.
I use and have used Opera (www.opera.com) for my web browser. It has a built in download manager that lets me stop/resume/cancel downloads. Firefox has the same thing I think and I'm sure that Chrome does as well. Anything but IE and my favorite just happens to be Opera.
MSE and a weekly scan (in safe mode) from Malwarebytes is my security system and it's worked fine for a number of years now. Agree with others on Norton (same goes for McCrapafee). Any security "suite" is going to bog down your system and cause you all kinds of grief with downloads and net play stuff (firewalls port forwarding, etc). Also, avoid the registry cleaners aside from perhaps the lite version that comes with CCleaner. Those will cause more harm than good unless you really scrutinize what it is they find that they say is obsolete. I'm not a fan of Zone Alarm. It annoys the crap out of you unless you figure out how to turn off all of the notifications plus it will make online gaming a pain to configure.
But, as with anything else, YMMV.

It has a silent gamer mode where it will back off anytime your launch a game.
The only time I have had troubles with it was when I tried to update Final Fantasy 14 back with v1.0 of the game. A quick forum browse revealed I needed to disable HTTPS protection scanning temporarily.
The scanner has countless of config options and lets your stay in control.

What scared me was my last buy was with Kaspersky it blocked the links, you could not download or know why! no way to do anything completely blocked. If i didnt have another PC i would have been in a mess
I've used Avira for years, and have mostly been happy with it, however recently a lot of AGEOD games have been ticking over with detection of a threat
PCK/ExeCryptor.
The exe files where AACW.exe (from AACW), WIA2.exe (from Birth of America 2) and AGEsettings.exe (from Birth of America 2).
I submitted them to Avira for further checking for false positives, and the results came back issuing a statement that they were indeed still a threat.
Since I bought all of these titles from Matrix games, I've posted up on the relevant support forums, but sadly haven't heard anything about this issue.
I'd like to think everything is ok, but the files are still being detected as threats everytime a scan kicks off, and I have to specifically set them to ignore, leaving me a little unsettled that my system is compromised in some way.
Normally false positives are rare, and a quick submission usually sorts it out, and future definition file patches take care of it, but Avira are flagging these files as threats after re-submission, and Matrix it seems are ignoring the issue.

The name rung a bell and I had a look through the notes I keep stored on various anti virus / malware software and they have dropped a few clangers with false positives, this was the latest one.

I would get rid of it and try something else, maybe try the .exes on another system with different software to see what the results are.
