Look, most of us have a ton of games waiting to be played or we play out of a sheer feeling of we spent money on it so we are obligated.... I am almost embarrassed to post as much crap as I have either setting around on my drive or waiting to be downloaded. Therefore, I have created my Fall/Winter Hit List were I will try and do at least one play through of the following and if I cannot complete them or just feel like it is something I am not interested etc.... then I will just chunk it from my HD to gaming purgatory and move on.
I hope to continually update the list as I play and hopefully by the end of the year I will have condensed a solid list of games I will continue to play and all the while start using better judgment on my purchases. I plan only to purchase EU IV and maybe one other game between now and the end of the year. I have included my regularly played games as well... This list not my complete list of games but the ones I am most interested in and most likely to play. Could tweak the list a little....
If you are wondering... yes I am crazy, have a full time job, a wife, and a life outside, however I get very little sleep. ;)

I'm waiting on Rome 2 and whatever DLC follows and Market/Garden for CMBN. But there's always one that slips up on me that I never see coming and bam, it's on my harddrive.
Well it seems since i fractured my right thumb at work yesterday and i'm at home waiting to see if they will have modified duty for me........ looks like my FPS rampage is going to have to be over for about 6 to 8 weeks. Can't really work my 7 button mouse very well for the fast twitch games[ i know, i already tried]. Looks like i will have to return to turn based for a bit. Good thing i have a few ;). Since insomnia runs in my family i get some extra gaming hours in. Your thread got me thinking about my possibilities for my intended playlist for at least the next 6 to 8 weeks. Hey...i have an excell sheet with all the games i'll be playing (yearly plan - month by month), the ones i've played etc...i am updating it on a regular basis since 2004 i think :o
Couldn't keep track otherwise.
My problem is the games I like are generally sandboxy and open-ended, so I can't ever "finish" them. I'm definitely going to be playing a lot of Dota 2 in the coming months, unless I get pissed off with it, and no doubt plenty of Rift. Besides that, I might have a crack at:

StarCraft II - Zerg Campaign
looks like i have to add Spartan & Gates of troy to my list. Haven't got a good download yet for GOT, won't install at the present moment. I put in a support ticket. I downloaded from plimus and got the download reset and tried again, then tried the members area. All the downloads are 26 bytes in size, so something wrong there. Spartan was 298 megs. Pip from slitherine is assisting me thru the forums. I did get a chance to go thru the tutorials for Spartan. The fixed resolution is a bummer, but the tutorials are well done and the game is deeper than i assumed when looking at it in the past. I'm kind of waiting for GOT to get working before jumping in all the way because Spartan will work thru GOT if you have both installed and i guess there are more features in the improved engine. I did have to drop a .dll file into the directory with the Spartan exe. to get it to run on windows 7, no issues so far after i did that and the file can be downloaded in a thread in slitherines forums.. so no biggy.

I, much like PE, also recently made the decision to chip away at the list of unplayed games (http://aarcentral.com/?p=242) I own. My approach, however, wasn't as elegant as PE's though. :P

But much more Bold! I see you are going way back and have gone all the way back Deadlock: Planetary Conquest, that is a feat I could not do.
I broke out SoTS II and have gotten the core mechanics and economics down. I have not looked at the game for months and even then it was a brief period. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised thus far and have enjoyed it more than I thought. I still have a lot of unanswered questions in terms of AI competency and strategic options, but overall I have enjoyed it.

More work than I thought, but have begin to shorten my list. Going through these has made me overload somewhat but I have eliminated
Imperialism II (EU IV),
Star Drive (just cannot get into it),
Shogun Total War II (Rome Total War II).
Other games I am looking at eliminating are
Eador: Masters of the Broken World (just a very limited game and becomes repetitive pretty quickly).
Sword of the Stars II, I have enjoyed the game, however the AI is suspect.... there are so many good things about the game but that really cripples it more than the UI.
Blood Bowl, just a fun game (trying to see if the AI holds up).
Have started a couple more games and will report back soon. ;)

Thanks for the tip. I have been eyeing this game from a distance wondering if I should get it or not when it goes on sale. I'll think I'll stay away based on your comment.

I tried a few times and had a hard time getting into it as well.. I think it was the UI.. I had a hard time selecting stuff.. is there a key for cycling through your ships or something.. I just hate when the screen moves around on you when you're trying to focus on something.
I can't believe the OP hasn't played HOI3 after having owned it for some time. That game nearly ruined my marriage.

Yes. I picked up my copy one day during the STEAM summer sale. I think I paid about $10 for the game. At that price it's worth it. Tuna mentioned his stumbling block was being able to navigate around to see what your ships are up to. On the minimap there is a little button (hotkey k, I believe) that brings up a list of all your ships. Double click on the desired ship and you're good to go. The thing I like about this game is that everything is easily accessible through a table list. The lists can be sorted by column. Don't get the wrong impression though, this is not spreadsheets in space. MOOIII seems that way to me, not this game though.
The only thing I noticed about this game that has me a bit worried is a weak ai. I'm still playing my second game and although I'm strong militarily there are at least two other factions stronger than me yet they haven't attacked me yet. I even destroyed one of their orbiting space stations without a formal declaration of war and all I got was a diplo message from them saying 'if you do that again we are going to really get mad at you'. ???
Stardive is worth around $5 on sale IMHO (winter sale)... it is like Eador (which I would price out around the same amount) you will get a couple of plays with it then it falls away. Stardive's AI is weak and the UI is pretty bland and bad.... some of the basic features in shortcuts are omitted. In my own taste I place Distant Worlds, SoTS II, Endless Space, GalCiv II, MOO II ahead of Stardrive.

Thanks for the comments, chaps. I'm definitely picking up Stardrive next time it goes on sale (or when I have £25 and nothing to spend it on....hahahahahahahahahaha).
More relevant to the topic at hand, my backlog isn't going to be so much as dented this winter if I don't stop playing the magnificent Dota 2.
I have narrowed my list down to the Fall/Winter playlist and with hopes of no purchases in between. I eliminated many of the games on my list for various reasons. I have tons of others but narrowed it down to the list below and then to the what I will actually stick with and play.
I plan not to spend much if any during the Winter sale (I hope), and will maybe add SoTS II or Endless space to the list as both still intrigue me even though the flaws.
