The Market-Garden module for CMBN can be pre-ordered now for the tidy sum of $35. $45 If you want a physical copy plus S&H. Should I make a principalled attempt to refrain from buying for awhile or just surrender now and live with my shame until release? :'(
Yes.
Just ordered the physical copy as well as download. Saved $10
On the other hand it is pretty confusing this whole base game plus patch plus module. I really think they should just obsolete or totally rename the base game and then move away from using its name in the 2.0 required modules.

lol - I want to buy it - but I have no fracking idea what I am to buy.
I have (I believe) CM:Normandy, CM:Commonwealth, CM:Fortress Italy and CM:Normandy v2 Upgrade...I think.
Is CM:Battle for Normandy the same as CM:Normandy?
I think I just need Market Garden - but I really have no idea and can't be fooking arsed to read through their website to find out. I'm not wanting anyone to check for me - just sayin' I can't be arsed finding out what's what.
And having said all that - I just discovered this on the CM:Market Garden page...
CMBN:MG requires the original game, Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy in order to play, upgraded to v2.0!
BUT - I'm still unclear what CM:Battle for Normandy is! Is it CM:Normandy? Is it CM:Normandy upgraded to v2?
I don't see the CM:BN download in my downloads folder on my hard drive - though I do see CM:Normandy, CM:Fortress Italy and CM:Normandy v2 Upgrade folders!
And - again - having said all that, a quick look at the CM:Battle for Normandy page states this
This is Game Engine v1.0
Which makes me think it's actually CM:Normandy...is it?
OR
Perhaps I've been wrong in thinking the game was called CM:Normandy and it was always called CM:Battle for Normandy?
If you have CM Battle for Normandy version 2.0 you will be able to set armor arcs and target briefly
All new modules need to have CMBN 2.0
Does that help?

Yep, just one game (CMBN) but 2 modules (Commonwealth & Market-Garden), 1 upgrade (v.2.0) and a few patches.

theres never been a CM:Normandy
start your game, in the bottom left hand corner of the start up screen it will tell you what version you have
Yeah - guessed I always called it wrong.
So it's CM:Battle for Normandy and NOT CM:Normandy.
So that makes more sense.
And I do have v2 - that was never in doubt. My confusion seems to have been linked to the above.
lol - if youre upto v2 you can just go straight ahead and purchase, from what i understand any UI updates and new stuff comes out later in a patch for other editions but there is just brand new stuff youll never get without OMG
Well Market Garden is one I would like.
As I said (in this thread or another) - this is a game I love - but seldom fire up. But I religiously keep it up to date with the latest DLC and patches - even though I rarely play it.
I think it's called (in the medical world) as the Battlefront Syndrome! >:(

My exact sentiments too.....
I have recently started playing this as PBEM.
I have had games against undrecovergeek and Tuna here at Grogheads and I have to say it has breathed new enthusiasm into my playing this game.
There is nothing quite like playing another human being. Since I have started PBEM I haven't played any of the computer scenarios against the AI. I would highly recommend starting up an online game and seeing if that would get your battle juices flowing

I have been handled like a french whore with a rough trick by the guys at Band of Brothers an online club dedicated to Combat Mission.
Those guys do not know the meaning of mercy and know every diabolical tip in the business

When so people bitch about the AI being lame or at their most polite "a training aid" - and I get hammered with the AI - it really isn't conducive to thinking I'd enjoy online play.
Besides - I play real time.

The condition first appeared in medical journals in 1985 with Advanced Squad Leader, which as far as games that you never play but are compulsive about keeping "up to date" takes up far more space on the shelf.

Not playing and keeping up to date is a personal choice. I fall guilty to this in a mild manner; I have just received the latest module for ASL (Rising Sun) but it will be many rising suns to of come and gone before I actually play it. I do however play ASL but not on such a regular basis that many others I know do. For them, ASL is "the" game with some rare diversions to other games non-ASL. Personally, I like some variety but I could also see not fussing with other flings and staying true to my one lover. With that said and to stay true to the topic at hand-
CMBN patch 2.0 and 2.01 (or is it 2.1? Who cares really) are downloading now. I've played the AI twice in CMBN and felt some excitement by having something new yet also felt that I was betraying a true love (sense the metaphors here?). I like the new OBA in CMBN. The better graphics were....well....better. Not sure that I've tasted what all else there is here. I seek the greener pastures yet hold true to the past. I'm rather enjoying a pbem game of CMBB at the moment and can't think of it working as well with the current incarnation of the game. I hope that I'm wrong though.

Just find a woman you don't like and buy her a house, it's cheaper in the long run!!!

Same sentiment. I really don't have fun playing CM. It's a tiring, frustrating and depressing chore.
Maybe because the campaign and preset missions are well designed and scripted with the odds heavily stacked against the human player.
Quick battles with equal sides are another story. These are boring and the AI mostly sit there doing nothing. I bet most MP games are based on Quick Battles.
Most MP battles are based on QB's because people like to purchase their own army.
Scenario's are played as well, but the problem is that you might have an unfair advantage if you already know the scenario well, but your opponent plays it for the first time.
...my money is on a relase at 9/17 ;)

Not sure that is correct.....here is the direct quote which was posted August 30th.
"The module & bundle are expected to ship in 4-6 weeks, only a short time after the upcoming anniversary of the real 'Operation Market Garden'."
This means to me 4-6 weeks from August 30th, which would put it sometime not too long after the anniversary date.

I have a CMSF quick battle on the go as we type. I'm playing Germans vs Syrian Airborne troops, but this time on Elite level, rather than my usual Veteran or Warrior level. Maybe it's me, but the game seems a whole lot more challenging.
My experience with CMSF is that the AI just sits in a corner of the map during Quick Battles. This is a result of the Ai needing scripts for each map. Even if there is a script, they may not use it effectively. And force selection is broken.
I believe the WW2 titles have better quick battle mechanics. But i still believe QB is more geared to human vs. Human.
Manual available for download...maybe game can't be too far behind?

I'm still surprised they haven't produced videos or better documentation on creating QB MAP's with good AI plans, there are only a few third party QB maps for each of the games. Nothing seems to have changed or improved in this area to make it easier from CMSF. The problem with creating your own QB's is, after all your hard work on the map and AI plans, there's no point in playing it because, you already know what the AI is going to do.
Given my recent run in with their DRM, I'm passing.
That's probably cutting my nose off to spite my face - but still...I did have an issue and I'm not willing to part with my money to tell them it's OK to put that DRM in their games.
I am Non-CM resistant. I will buy it even if I have to buy the Market separate from the Garden. :-\

I own everything up to and including CMFS but, none of their CM2 WWII game dues to their DRM which only seems to get worst with each new release. Basing a DRM on a non-changing PC configuration was just plan dumb!
Well too and because I like playing these titles in real time. :'(

I used to be the same - I really did. No more. I am burning that bridge.
I am undecided myself although originally I thought it was a sure thing and was even going to pre order. First version I didn't. Not really because of drm but because so many new games recently, plus this series is one I always think I will play a lot but don't end up playing much for some reason. We'll see.
first time for me too, no particular reason, theres just a whole lot of big games out there calling for my attention, and this is a bit seen it, done it, played it for one hour and wondered why i spent another 35 pounds on it
The way I look at it, I'm getting more toys, more maps, more MP opportunities, all while funding system improvements and making the way straight for the EF expansions.
No-brainer for me.
Best,

They should've done.. Base.. then expansions... breaking up into multiple bases is ridiculous.. I think it hurt their sales as well.. there's a heck of a lot more posts in the CMBN forum than CMFI... At least this will work with CMBN, so I might get it..
Again, like others have said, DRM is a possible deterrent.
