That's stunning considering the game has a large footprint and video pop ins if not installed properly.  I'll probably get this game but I'll wait a month when it hits the bargain bin at 3 units.

I know I'm being harsh but this was a disappointing week game release wise for me.   ;)

This game blows everything I ever played completely out of the water, this is the first time I feel really being in a gangster movie playing the main role (rather three main roles), it's incredible what Rockstar has done here. The gfx is great given the sheer size of the world where you can go anywhere without ever seeing a loading screen, that there's no anti-aliasing is true, but it's not a problem, you won't notice it after this masterpiece of a game has sucked you totally in. Do not wait to play this, go and get it now and thank me later :)

^It certainly is.  I was wondering something.  Grimnirsson have you installed the second disk to a thumb drive?  If so do you notice any graphical glitches?
Title: Re: GTA 5 Makes $800 Million in First 24 Hours
Post by: Grimnirsson on September 19, 2013, 12:19:24 PM
And I was rather reserved in my recommendation...I have no time to praise it more because I have to go back and play it :P

The second disc is not to be installed, Rockstar was quite clear on this point. You 'play' the first disc and that starts the install process, then it says "switch to second disc" which you put in and play the game. Installing the second disc too, creates a bottleneck situation for the 360 when the gfx is streamed, so that causes problems. I don't have the 2. disc installed on a USB stick, I play with the disc in my drive and have no problems (apart from the already mentioned fact that the game has no anti-alliasing, so the typical flickering is there, but only at daytime and when you have the world expanding at the horizon e.g. when you drive over the Autobahn :) ) Really, it's not something that gets in the way here, I can live with that - what Rockstar achieved here technically on the old hardware is a miracle. And I have never been in such a living and completely convincing world, never played a game that is like this. And I play many games... :)

Damn. I haven't bought a new console game since Mass Effect 3. Might have to take the plunge.

Ok Grimnirsson.

You have convinced me.  I will have to buy this game now based on your recommendation.  I have heard from Gamefaqs forums that if you install the 2nd disk to USB drive then you don't have to listen to disk tray noise as well as it's wear and tear and you don't have graphic issues.  Just an FYI.

@mirth,

go for it, there are still many good and even great games (Dark Souls 2!!!) in the pipeline for the Xbox but this is the swansong title for the 360. And starting October 1st, this huge world of crime and fun will also be available online and then there's not just this living breathing city Los Santos and the wonderful area around it, but also 16 human players around...

Check out this preview on the online mode...you don't want to miss that fun, do you? ;) And the sooner you get the game, the better, because it's quite complex at first you can do a lot of things and the buttons have several functions and all, so feeling at home in this world, when it opens online is helpful I suppose.

@W8taminute,

well, I think we are quite close in our 'gaming taste' and I hope so far all my recommendations were helpful to get a few cool games into your drive - this is a game you will enjoy I'm sure ;)

Btw, the game has some built in features regarding friends, leaderboard competition etc. and GTA Online will add the crew feature of Rockstar Social Club. Hiimori and I have just for the fun of it started a crew named 'Legio XIII Gemina' - Motto: Pia Fidelis!  because this adds some aspects to the game (more XP, special achievements, bonuses, coop stuff and all) and so we thought it would be fun. I looked for your name on the Social Club roster to send you an invite to the Legion, but your gamertag was not there...

If anybody else wants to join, just say so :)
We are not going to play this like the hardcore crowd with party chatter, training sessions and so on we just add this feature for the fun of it and will see what happens, I mean if it's that great as the previews say, we should use all tools available to get rich and badass in online Los Santos  ;)

Yes our gaming tastes are indeed similar that's why I trust your judgement.  You have indeed recommended some great games to me in the past and they will keep me busy for quite a while until I'm ready to get a PS4.  :)

I'll pick up the game during my lunch break today.  Maybe I'll suddenly feel very sick and go home, you know what I mean?   ;)

The next question I was going to ask you was if you were going to start a group on GTA Online but seems like you have already.  I will of course join you when I get the game.  It will be interesting because we can buy a house and our characters can live there no?  How many cars will we put in our garage?

Well, I now have all three characters available, have been playing for about 16h and have seen merely 22% of what the game has to offer according to the statistic. And since the GTA Online missions will be new stuff to do, not the Single Player missions playable for more than one person, you get some gaming bang for your bucks.  From what I read on the interne at launch there will be 500 Missions or more available and Rockstar creating more after that to keep the game alive for a long time...
It's insane how great the missions are, the story is one loud laughter for me, I have so much fun, you Americans will recognize your country :P
The characters are really different and you actually start playing them according to their different personalities (and the third one, Trevor, is a psycho without limits, it's a helluva fun to be him ;)) and so these three folks give you a completely different experience, it works perfectly. Hard for me to put down the controller actually :P

@W8taminute,

it depends on the size of the garage ;)

That's me as Trevor (your Trevor might look different of course!) , having some fun with folks who thought they could fuxx around with me...a selfie done with my ingame smartphone, the fire was just too beautiful...and it helped a lot with the corpses ;)

Hi Grimnirsson,

I've joined the Rock * Social Club and requested to join your crew.   ;)

Ok so GTA V is a lot of fun.  I haven't been able to play more than 2 hours or so because I have to wait until the kids go to bed before I play a game like this out in the open.  However I have managed to complete 3 missions and smoke a lot of weed and drink beer in my safehouse.    ;D

EDIT:  It seems like only a few more hours now before GTA Online is ready.  Here is the link to Rock *'s Social Club site however it is opening very slowly.  They must be in the process of upgrading as we speak!   http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/

Yep, I downloaded it and started with the character customization which I do not like...it appears other than using the 'random' option all characters look annoyingly the same and all are looking like gay hipsters btw...no matter how you choose the 'heritage' (you can not build your character as such, you choose the grandparents and the parents and this 'gen pool' will decide how you look like). I would have preferred a traditional 'here are a bazillion sliders and now go and slide around and build your character' - perhaps I do something wrong, don't know.

After saving the character the game starts automatically, the intro is nicely done although there were heavy pop ins and ultra late texture loadings in this intro 'movie'. It seems that NPCs do interact in an interesting way with the human players giving out 'missions' and such so it's not just clicking on a symbol in the map. The first thing is a race and then you have to beat up some drug types and steal the dope, then sell it to a NPC. Everything went ok, I finished 2nd in the race :) but after we killed the drug dealers every player jumped into a car and off they went, although we were all going in the same car at the beginning. I suppose they thought being first and being more of an asshole than the other players is the name of the game here (which it wasn't) and then these guys were in my world...and soon I got killed, and everybody was after everybody else...if you think you'll meet a lot of stupid non-team assholes in the online part of GTA5 I don't think you will be disappointed. Then I quit to see what I could do to come up with a better looking character (you have can have more than one), but then I couldn't get into the game anymore. Rockstar is aware of the issues and they work on them.

We will see...

Wow you got a lot accomplished Grim.  I was looking forward to character customization but based on your report it does not sound promising.

Unfortunately the reality of this kind of game means there will be a lot of idiots out there making life miserable for us serious gamers but what can we do?  My plan is to try to keep my character out of sight and figure out how things work online.  We'll see how that goes.

There's an option to activate a safe mode, which means that other players can not attack you (neither can you) so that seems a good idea for the first steps. If we three are in Los Santos we of course can fight back ;)

I figured we could practice fighting each other in friendly matches designed to hone our street skillz!  But it's good to hear that you can activate a safe mode.  I'd like to play by observing first before diving in and fighting, stealing, and other types of mayhem.

QuoteIf you're struggling to earn cash early in your GTA Online career, you may find yourself tempted to begin killing other players on sight just so you can loot their dead bodies. But GTA Online will reward you for your good behavior in the form of regular cash payments. It may not earn you as much money as straight-up murdering strangers, but it's at least a consistent form of income. And there's one other benefit, too: you won't earn yourself a "bad sport" reputation. Rockstar has built a matchmaking system that makes sure jerks are matched up with other jerks, effectively banishing the worst offenders to a murderous wasteland of their own creation. Suddenly those good-behavior rewards sound pretty nice.

To have such limitations in a character builder is just silly, but then again...the whole character builder is crap.

I got online yesterday and could not even start the mandatory race you're required to complete.  At least I created a character but I have to agree that the character builder is absolute rubbish.  Of all the games I've played within the past 2 years I'd say Skyrim and Dark Souls character builders are the best though both are different from each other.

At least I was able to get my character to kind of sort of look like me.   8)

I intend to try to be a nice bad guy.   I don't want to end up in some jerk hell matchmade game.

Wow, this sucks...the Social Club cloud server are offline the whole day, so you are allowed to get into GTAO, but saving is disabled and your online character is gone...even in SP you can't take pics, compare your stats with your frinds etc.. -so I even stopped playing the SP for now...

Thanks for the FYI.  I will try to play both SP and Online tonight but if things are still bad at least I can try to beat the Great Wolf Sif in Dark Souls.  He's been haunting me now for months and I just can't seem to beat him.
Title: Re: GTA 5 Makes $800 Million in First 24 Hours
Post by: Grimnirsson on October 02, 2013, 03:17:58 PM
Seems the better option, yeah...I also read that folks lose their SP progress while trying to go online...that's something that would make go BOOM.

Regarding Sif, he's not that hard, just make sure to stay close to him so he can't attack you with the sword slash attack.
Title: Re: GTA 5 Makes $800 Million in First 24 Hours
Post by: W8taminute on October 02, 2013, 03:22:18 PM
About that save file bug.  Last night I panicked when after downloading GTAO and pressed start instead of autoloading my SP game it started all over again from the beginning.

I nearly exploded into a fit of rage but instead I tried to load save game and was happy to see my save file from the previous night was still there!   I think some people got confused and think they lost their save files when really they are still there but the patch starts the game all over again for some reason.

About Sif.  I came so close to beating him last night.  The closest I've ever come.  I did exactly like you said and stayed underneath him.  But my trouble is when he jumps away I have to run over to him and try to get underneath him again.  That's where I die because I have not perfected my timing when rolling underneath his sword swipe/slash attack.

What a shit launch of the online part...three characters and all the progress and the time I invested....deleted by the game. After I quit and then later come back to the game, I'm back to start...three times now!!!

Fuck you R*, this is beyond acceptable  >:(
Title: Re: GTA 5 Makes $800 Million in First 24 Hours

Just tested this...fact is my online characters are not saved. Made a new one, played the tutorial race and the dope job, quit - progress will be saved says the game - go to dashboard, then get back into the game, no character...everytime

So this means GTAO is unplayable for me right now...great, they make a ton of money, they had time enough to test shit, they even delayed it two weeks after game launch, they should have known what to expect regarding number of players/buyers...they now work on it for days...and the game is deleting all your progress. But hey...we at least get greedy microtransactions, so we can give them even more money!

Needless to say I'm REALLY PISSED...

I didn't realize how bad it was Grim.  You mentioned that glitch to me earlier today but to have it do that to you every time is totally unacceptable.  Has your SP game save been lost?  If that ever happens as a result of playing GTAO I think R* would be facing a riot of out of control customers that they could not possibly fix.

So far yes...*knock on wood* ;)

Next time you are in the game please check under settings (I think that was the point) whether you have still version 1.0 after downloading the patch. I am a bit confused because the patches have higher numbers 1.02, 1.03 but my game still says 1.0  ???
