Title: Carrier Command
Post by: PanzersEast on October 01, 2013, 12:57:12 PM
I bought this during the summer sale for $5 and tried to play it a couple of times.  The campaign is laughable and really my only interest was the strategic play option.  After finally spending some time reading the manual and learning the game I actually like it.  I tried to invade a fairly well defended island and it was a tough go.... the ai path finding was slow however did fine..... but I noticed it does not always defend itself well and you have to take manual control to get it out of trouble.

Anyway, I slugged it out on the island enough that I had to dip into my supplies.  It was a hard fought battle and left me juggling my production to make up for the lost equipment while I was invading.  Graphics are good and controls feel fine to me.  I know this title got slammed when it was released, but for $5 it is a fairly decent game.

I played it for a bit.  It seemed like a lot of work to play even though it was a brilliant design in many ways, but then here I am playing Take on Mars and ARMAIII so I'm a BI fanboi.  I admit it.

Lol... I have both as well.  Honestly I started out hating CC and thought I wasted money with it.... but after spending more time it has grown on me.  I don't mind having to micro manage my units as there are only 9.... and I like it that way.  Overall I think the game is very good, however I am interested to see how it plays out in the later part.  How to balance resources etc....  I have found out the hard way how trying to capture an island can take a toll on your supplies.

There are many layers of coolness in CC.  For example there's a way to hit the enemy radar system and degrade all their defenses.  I never got good enough at bombing to make that worthwhile.  I think in the end, I didn't like the visual/aural world of CC -- brilliant though it is.

Take on Mars, though, looks very promising and of course ARMAIII is...well an ARMA and I have to play it and find a way to like it.

It's well worth $5 and more now.  It was rightfully slated at release but the current version is very enjoyable.

Don't know if this is the games mechanic so maybe one of you guys can enlighten me... but on the strategic game the enemy carrier continues to show up as I assault islands....  I was thinking it would be more of a cat and mouse game until maybe later in the game.... or maybe islands need to be captured quickly?  Early encounter with the enemy carrier = sunk.
