I wonder how much they tidied up SR: Cold War before moving on.  Last I heard, it would bog down after about eight years with the AI never scrapping old military equipment and other such fun.

At least some of you don't have to ask, "ZOMG when for World War Two!?"  :P

Well, we got as far as update 3.7 which came out just before New Years.  Version 3.1 resolved the game speed issues, we haven't had complaints on speed since then.  Also, the AI does scrap it's unused stuff now.  But, eventually, it's time to move on.

In cause anyone is interested, we've just released a video with some gameplay and some screenshots as part of a Kickstarter launch to try and add more content before release.  You can check it out here;

Arise thread!

Since Supreme Ruler 1936 is on sale at Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/244410/) for another day for 66% off ($13.59 instead of $39.99 here in the U.S.) and since it received a very favorable 85% rating from Robert Mackey at Armchair General "with the potential to go much higher as patches come out," I felt it would be appropriate to get the opinions of those who have played the game in order to enlighten those of us who haven't.

It's been a few months since Supreme Ruler 1936 was released, so what's the verdict? Is it worth $13.59?

I bought it in the sale yesterday.

I have SR2010, SR2020 Gold, and SR Cold War already. I like the games, although game speed, and the lack of a proactive AI does tend to bedevil the games. Sometimes the AI works well, but in my opinion tends to be erratic, especially after a declaration of war. The AI will tend to swarm the player, then get rather passive. Air AI is usually good at the tactical/intercept level, but operational strategic air warfare seems to be more a thing for a human player.

The detail of the units, and the economic dimension tends to be good with these games. As with many games submarine interdiction of merchant shipping is weak, as merchant shipping lanes are not replicated. Cargo ships are really military auxiliary transports in the game. In that respect it makes it difficult to model the impact of subs on an economy - clearly an issue for the UK, and Japan. That all said, they are not bad games at all. Battlegoat consistently supports its products well, and in my opinion they are a developer that deserves support in return.

I haven't played SR1936 yet, although it is said to be a streamlined version of the other games. Whether that means I can organise Brigades, Divisions etc now, I don't know. If you like micromanaging at the battalion level you may like it. For $14 I'd pick it up in the sale.

Personally, I'd have preferred to get a non-Steam version like my other SR titles, but there is no choice with this release. That said, the autoupdate feature is something that is generally good about Steam. (Not always though - I found I couldn't roll back to an earlier update of Company of Heroes, which permitted me to play single player skirmishes off line. The update prevented that.... :knuppel2: >:()
