We celebrate it as Veterans' Day. Some folks wear poppies, but it's not ubiquitous. In the news about that Toronto mayor it looked like he was wearing a poppy starting around November 1st. We don't do anything like that. If a poppy is worn at all, it will be just on the 11th.

lol - i was asking Kenny because i thought he was German, in Germany - so the 'over there' was the Germany in Europe, but then realised with Stars help he was Swiss, from Switzerland, near over there but more 'neutrally' than the other place hes not from, so i doubt poppies would be worn for much, except maybe prancing and then you answered 'over here' but thats not over where i thought it was, unless your Swiss

in switzerland

in the US, it's "celebrated" as Veterans Day.  I say "celebrated" because for 90% of the population it's an excuse to (A) get out of a day of school and/or (B) save 30% on a new mattress, or a flat-screen TV, or whateverthefuck is on sale to "celebrate" Veterans Day.

Honestly, most folks I know have no freakin' clue what it's for or why it's on that particular day.  Everyone over here gets Veterans Day confused with Memorial Day, and in the meantime, us veterans just sit around bemused at how the population can be that oblivious.

The Empire / Commonwealth / Queendom / Whatever y'all are these days does a much, much better job of honoring tradition than our nation of bumbling distracted idiots does.

What Veterans Day ought to be:

wow, thats a read and a half!

i strongly suspect that in the not too distant future when the generation that was there is gone, and the generation that was taught it is gone the stuff that we see over here will just stop - i love watching the footage of the old guys meet at Pegasus bridge, and the old girl opens the cafe and gives everyone drinks, i think its awesome but i also think it will stop when they are dead and noone will know why
