I say "B.S." because I HATE BLACK FRIDAY. I don't like going out wanting to purchase something when you can't count on the product being there after waiting for hours. But it looks like there's a Vizio TV at Sam's Club that my father-in-law said he'd pay us back for if we got it.
I see that it's available online starting midnight tonight (I hope I'm reading that right), so now I get to wait 13 hours to see if I'm correct, to see if Sam's Club's website decides to crash or run slow as crap, or even if the damn thing will be there seconds after midnight. I really don't want to have to go stand in line at 10pm tomorrow night in the fleeting hopes of getting what I want.
I've done this twice before, both times in recent years, and both times managed to score what I wanted to get (laptops in both cases). So I'm 2-0 and hesitant to screw up that record. Which, I think, is a better record than either of my Fantasy Football teams right now.
Anyone planning on braving the elements and crowds this year? If so, what are you looking to get? I've seen folks posting game wishes throughout several threads.
I've never, not once, gone shopping on Black Friday. In fact, I usually make a point of not even leaving the house.
Same for me.
The savings aren't worth the hassle of dealing with the mobs that show up for them.
I prefer a more relaxed shopping atmosphere.
I did Black Friday 4am BS one time and one time only. Never again.

I'm going to Panera to pick up some bread to go with the gumbo that afternoon. If the bread happens to be on sale, that's a bonus, but not expected. And I'm walking, so no need to fight for parking.
I will never ever EVER do anything even near a mall on Black Friday. Ever.
I plan on spending Friday relaxing and playing my favorite wargames, surfing the internet and knocking off the left overs from Thanksgiving.
Also, reading the news about whatever horror this years Black Friday produces and thankful I can't think of anything to buy that would make it necessary for me to participate in it.
LOL.
You're all much better than I.
Forgot about what Dolan mentioned...someone, somewhere, will be a stampede victim at one of the big box stores.
Or get into a fistfight. I've been to two Black Fridays, both at a Wal-Mart. The second time, a couple of idiots came to blows an aisle over, over...I can't even remember what it was, but it was in the Electronics section, so God knows it must have been worth having the cops drag them away.
I worked in retail for almost ten years. Black Friday was my second favorite day to Christmas Eve. Nothing like showing up for a nine hour shift, getting out on the floor, looking up at the clock and realizing nine hours had FLOWN by!

When I managed a Starbucks in California I had that happen on Christmas Day. One store per district is always open on Christmas, staffed by volunteers. Two morons waiting in line for coffee actually got into a fistfight over who was in line next. Since I had four deputies sitting at a table, it wasn't their best move.
Getting into a fight at Starbucks? That's almost as bad as fighting for a Tickle Me Elmo.

I once had a customer who was in drive thru get impatient with the older gent ahead of him who was having a hard time making up his mind. Just so you know, my Starbucks averaged well under three minutes per car in drive thru during peak times. Impatient customer gets out of his car, goes up to the older gent (who's window is down because he is ordering), curses him and spits in his face.
All this was witnessed on our camera. We gave the old gent his coffee and sandwich for free. When the a**hole came up to the window, I told him he was barred from my Starbucks forever (the only one in town, thank you). A cop inside my store (I always had cops in my store, ha!) stopped the old gent in our parking lot and got his information, then stopped the a**hole as he was exiting the drive thru and wrote him a summons.
Every now and then...bad people get what's coming to them.
Years ago I worked at a Canadian Tire store. During the holidays, a guy came to the customer service desk to return a toaster oven. He had used it but didn't clean it at all (it was a mess). The manager on shift that night was a woman who was about 4 1/2 feet, and she refused the return, for obvious reasons. The guy must have been nuts and had a fit, and then decided to throw the toaster oven at her. Good thing she was short and that he wasn't too bright. She didn`t flinch for some reason, and the thing flew over the counter (and her head), out the store, and into a security guard passing by.

The store really got interesting when all the Inuits (eskimos) came down to cash in their welfare checks after getting boozed up.
Well, my Black Friday plans are in the crapper, thank goodness!
That 55" 1080p I wanted to get was available online about an hour earlier than indicated...must have meant midnight EST, although they did not specify. Just refreshed the page and there it was, for the taking. Free shipping and all, too. Thank GOD, no waiting in f*cking lines for me tomorrow! Woo-hoo!!!
Also, to add...I worked retail for many years, over too many Christmases to count. My first Christmas retail job was for Babbage's back in Christmas 1989. It was off and on for different companies from there. My last retail job was managing a Hollywood Video, back in 1997. Thank Christ I don't work in retail any more...I blame retail for giving me much of my cynicism and lack of faith in humanity.
^You and I surely must have crossed paths somewhere along the line. Both Babbages and Hollywood Video were in the mall I worked in.

I worked in Eddie Bauer, Eddie Bauer Home, and Abercrombie & Fitch.
I actually helped build the Eddie Bauer Home store, laying down the parkay floors. I was the stock gnome in the other stores. I almost slept with my manager at the regular Eddie Bauer but at the time I was roughly 19 and she was 30-something, not particualrly hot and it creeped me out.

Every year Gus' 'Nearlies' have a convention where they all sleep with each other to try and dull the pain of those long ago rejections.

Kids and I ventured out yesterday about 2:30. We went to the pet store and got my daughter some supplies for her fish and then next door to the Game Stop where my son got a Cabellas Hunting game for the WII.
Walked over to Walmart I checked out all of the people rooting through the movies and hoping to find a great deal on a TV while J hit the head.
The wife and friends left about 8am and got home about 9pm.

Where are you getting your pricing from.
Well, yesterday was the fully Monty.
We drove 45 minutes to get to a huge mall and waded through shop after shop. The only time I wasn't happy was when my wife, with Daughters #1 and 2, wanted to go to Victoria's Secret to look at what was on sale - and there was a "small" line waiting to get into the store. That's when I drew the line.

We ended up at Target for about 45 minutes yesterday afternoon for a couple of things for the kids, but I also found a portable 1TB HD for about $60, and then got another 10% off with the red card / pharm rewards combo. In and out, no lines, no idiots, and even the parking wasn't too bad.

Not quite Black Friday but the local gun stores are having their annual sales next weekend and the weekend after that. Last year was the first time I went. I finished my night shift at 7am and drove to the store which was scheduled to open at 10am. When I got there, there were already in excess of 200 people in line. Some had lawn chairs. One group even brought a couch and a BBQ. I didn't get into the store until 10:45 and the pistol I wanted was already sold out. Ended up buying an M&P 9mm instead just so it wasn't a total waste of time. It actually wasn't a bad experience. Everyone was well behaved and I had a good time chatting with the people in line around me.
Going again this year but this time I'm bringing a dolly for ammo.
I have to admit that Black Friday was a slow day for me and Mirths mom. ;)
I had to go out for Black Friday and do a little grocery shopping.
I ran out or low on a few items during Thanksgiving and decided to go to the local Super Target to replenish those items since it is closer than the Publix Super Market I generally shop at for groceries.
Though the Target was a bit more crowded than usual, everyone seemed well behaved and the shopping was very casual with enough staff on hand to make standing in line a bit less time consuming.
My only complaint is the salted butter bin was empty and the store didn't have any in stock and I ended up going to Publix anyways.
My wife and friends were at Kohls late afternoon on Friday and it took an hour to get checked out.
